Cheers to Nuna! 🍻
This is Kay, but everybody calls her Nuna. Just over 98 years ago, she was born and raised in the Garfield neighborhood of Pittsburgh. Here she is giving her official approval of this beer that we brewed and named after the place of her birth. ...Or at least, that’s what I’m told by her grandson who sent me this photo.
When we started this YOU ARE HERE Neighborhood Beers project, we were hoping to improve our connections with people in each neighborhood of our city, and maybe make some new ones. But I guess we always figured they’d be... you know... more typical craft beer drinkers, whatever that means. But thankfully that turned out to be pretty wrong.
Somehow we underestimated the deep connection to place that we all have with our city and our city’s many neighborhoods. Maybe it was a neighborhood where you met that special someone? Or a neighborhood where you lived when you had your first child? Or like Nuna here, maybe it’s a connection that spans across several decades and generations. But whatever our connection to place might be, it always comes back to the people around us in that place. And we’re happy to meet people like Nuna, even if it‘s just like this, through a screen.
On this day, we’re feeling especially thankful for all of the people around us, and for all the time we’ve shared with them. And since YOU are reading this, we’re also thankful to be some of those people in your life that YOU have shared some with, at our place and at yours. Because without all of you, none of this would be possible.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
