The rumours are true, Maranda's latest novel is published and ready to be held in your very hands. I've written about this one a few times now, it's freaky and perfect and maybe made me cry. You can buy it on Amazon if that's yr thing, but I think a lil more money goes directly to them if you buy it from Etsy. Featuring illustrations by Cee Lavery, artist and musician extraordinaire. šŸ”®šŸ’œšŸ“šāœØšŸ¦„

"In this work of experimental fiction and magic realism, Maranda Elizabeth writes a vulnerable tale of perpetually misunderstood and powerless teenagers in a small town. We Are the Weirdos explores trauma, gender, poverty, invalidation, and memory, as well as themes of trust, abandonment, confinement, and revenge. The characters encounter one another, as well as authority figures and ghosts, at home and through institutions: school, court cells, a detention centre, and a group home. Each of them dream of magic and escape."

For residents and visitors of Montreal, and photobooth lovers alike, here it is! Your official-unofficial guide to analog photobooths in the city.

In 2016, I took myself on an adventure into every metro station and many shopping centres on a search for photobooths. The analogs were quickly disappearing, and this update confirms the inevitable. The only currently active analog photobooth in the metro system is at Place-des-Arts, but you can click on the link to find a few more.

šŸ˜‡šŸ“øšŸŒˆ

Updated as of October 27th, 2017. Iā€™ve done some more exploring and Iā€™ve made a few phone calls and Iā€™ve got all the current info on analog photobooths, which sadly, will likely bā€¦

"Producing zines can offer an unexpected respite from the scrutiny on the internet, which can be as oppressive as it is liberating. Shakar Mujukian, publisher of The Hye-Phen ā€” a zine by and about q***r and trans Armenians who, as he puts it, often 'feel as ignored and invisible as their motherland' ā€” told me via email that just because technology can fully replace something doesnā€™t mean it should. He described zines as the precursor to personal blogs, but personal blogs have been on the decline over the last decade. And zines canā€™t get replies or hateful remarks in a comments section. Publishing ideas outside the mainstream can make an author incredibly vulnerable; the web is polluted with a culture of toxicity that invites attacks. Zines, in Mujukianā€™s vision, 'are essentially about reclamation. You get to make your own media and define your own narrative in the way you want to and can.'"

"And it perhaps reflects why zines can feel so much more intimate than a Facebook post. The deliberation and care that goes into making them is important. The internet is especially adept at compressing humanity and making it easy to forget there are people behind tweets, posts and memes."

I wasn't lying, I've been getting a lot of work done! I combined all of the zine listings to one page, and added several new titles, including Herb Support For Top Surgery, Cultural Appropriation In Spirituality, On (trans) Masculinity, Abstract Door #6 and more. This'll be my last major catalogue update for a while, so get 'em while you can!

This coming Saturday! I'll be tabling at Casa del Popolo all day long, with some truly lovely artists. A certain someone told me they'll have non-alcoholic beer available! And I'll have some great zines that I haven't yet listed online, including Unkissed, On Trans Masculinity, Cultural Appropriation in Spirituality, Home Body, Herb Support For Top Surgery, Abstract Door #6, and more.

A couple of days have passed, and I just wanna say thank you to the organizers of the Halifax Zine Explosion for their hard work and for the travel stipend, without which I wouldn't have been able to afford to be here. The Central Library was a real nice venue (windows! coffee!) and I saw so many friendly faces. Wandering around this city is one of my favourite things to do, but I'm looking forward to going home and working on new projects. ƀ la prochaine!

Wow!!! Thank you so much to the organizers of the Montreal Anarchist Bookfair for making it happen, to everyone who came to my table to pick up some zines, and to my pals who helped me with snacks and coffee and carrying my whole damn distro when I overbooked myself.

I've come very close to selling out of a lotta my stock. I'll be at the Ottawa Zine Fair this coming weekend, and then I'll likely go on hiatus so I can take a break and give the distro a makeover. Catch me while you can!

Been passing it out among friends, but just finally updated my website so you can order Critical Breakfast #2 if yr into it. $1.00 plus postage.

Every year, I do a Fun-A-Day project to pass the time and have something to look forward to during the winter. For 2016, I decided to track as many photobooths in Montreal as I could ā€“ which turned into a bigger project of visiting every metro station in the city, and poking around malls in the early mornings before there's much of a crowd. In the end, I tracked the remaining analog booths (which are rapidly disappearing ā€“ at least three gone in the months before I began the project), and the various digital booths that exist. This is a tiny little zine about my love of photobooths, and about winter survival in general, and contains a fold-out map of the Montreal metro system that shows every photobooth I found, a list of books I read while riding the metro, and a few fun resources. Recommended if you live in Montreal, or are planning on visiting.

Hope the winter is being good to everyone! I've been very, very quiet on the distro front, but working on other projects and reading non-stop. I just did a little website update to delete everything that's permanently sold out, and I'll be ordering a bunch of new stock at the end of the month. If you wanna help me get some rad new zines in the distro, you can simply place an order and know that that's where your money is going! I also love getting recommendations from people.

Good morning! Zine Nation just posted an interview with me. It's about running a distro, some of my favourite zine fairs, and what I've been reading lately. And a little bit about money, and keeping zines financially accessible.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by my table today, and to organizers at the Plant. It was such a sweet and cozy time! I probably won't be tabling again until the springtime, but I'll be adding new titles to the catalogue over the course of the winter.

If yr in the neighbourhood, I'll be tabling at the holiday art market at 185 Van Horne (2nd floor, up a flight of stairs) from 12-6pm today. Last chance to come and get some zines!

Just wanna write a little thank-you to everyone who stopped by my table at Expozine this past weekend. I appreciated the conversations and company. It means a lot to me that people care about my distro and remember to come find me in my little corner every year (now for eight years and counting). I was lucky to be surrounded by the sweetest zinester pals, too. 'Til next time (and hopefully in a more accessible space)!
