This date in 1976 saw the premiere of THE BIONIC WOMAN, the American science fiction action-adventure television series created by Kenneth Johnson as a spin-off from The Six Million Dollar Man (Jan 14, 1976)
Starring Lindsay Wagner, Richard Anderson and Martin E. Brooks, it aired on ABC, and then NBC, from January 14, 1976 to May 13, 1978.
The show's premise centered around Jamie Sommers, who after a skydiving accident, receives bionic implants that give her superhuman strength, speed, and hearing. She is recruited by the government to use her abilities to complete secret missions and help others.
The show was well-received by both critics and audiences, and it was known for its action-adventure elements, as well as its exploration of feminist themes, such as the struggles of a working woman trying to balance her personal and professional life.
After the show's cancellation, it has gained a cult following and has been referenced in various forms of media such as TV shows, movies and books.
In 2007, a new version of "The Bionic Woman" was produced, but it only lasted for one season.
