What a difference a year makes! 💚🩵💙💜

A year ago (yesterday), we made the difficult decision to transfer our sweet baby 2500 miles for a higher level of care. She was still intubated and not without risk, I flew with Daanya across the country on a medical flight. ✈️ We weren’t sure how everything would turn out, but we knew it was the right choice for her even if it was the most difficult one for us. What was supposed to be around 3 months ended up being 📅 10, but Daanya was finally able to come home, with “minimal” equipment. It’s hard to look back but this just reminds us of how far she’s come. Then, you couldn’t hear her cry (because of the tube). Now, she a boisterous little girl babbling “mama” all the livelong day. 🥹🥹 And for that, we are grateful. 🥰

Just sitting here enjoying the view…

Daanya has been keeping us verrrry busy, as we have been home for just over 5 weeks! 🙌🏼 There was a lot of chaos around discharge from the hospital and Daanya finally got to see home 🏠 for the FIRST time after 15 long months! Big shout out to my mom for swooping in at the last minute to help us on the journey 🚙 home! I think it’s safe to say she likes it here and being with us, but she ESPECIALLY likes TV 📺 (as she’s pictured watching 😆).

It may not be obvious that Daanya has special needs (besides the oxygen) but she’s got a lot going on and she’s been through even more. ❤️‍🩹 She has a feeding tube, which is also used to administer 8 different medications daily. Every week is anywhere from 2-4 appointments 📆 and that’s expected to increase with Early Intervention. She also has a pulse oximeter to monitor her oxygen saturation and portable suction to help her manage secretions because she has the meanest reflux I have ever seen. 😢 Through all that, she’s still able to be happy most of the time! 🥰 She has sooo many expressions and even more hair. 👧🏻 She thinks it’s funny to pull on EVERYTHING, just to solicit a reaction…this cord or that tube, it’s all fun and games to our silly Daanya. She sure knows how to keep us on our toes! She can make you feel like a million bucks with one princess wave 👋🏼 and she will steal your heart 💓 in the same moment. She is the cutest, toughest, most opinionated little warrior babe you ever did see! Keep going baby girl, we are all rooting for you! 😍

All that is to say we couldn’t have done it without the support of family and friends. 🥹🥹 My mom, dad, sister and brother have been a tremendous help and we cannot thank you enough. 🤗 Extended family, family coworkers and friends, townspeople, even strangers, EVERYONE who showed up in some way to help us through the most difficult time in our lives: from the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU❣️We appreciate everything you have done for us and there are no words that can ever properly convey how much your support has meant to us. 💕

We are just so proud of our sweet Daanya for being such a strong, resilient babe! Despite her bacterial infection AND coming down with a virus, she is still able to smile and get back to being her happy little self. The hits keep coming and she doesn’t let them keep her down. Daanya still has a few things to work on before we can take her home (this time we hope it’s for good) but we are looking at getting discharged end of month. God willing, we hope and pray this is it!

Yesterday was Benefit Day! We are so blessed with the best! Our small home town really knows how to show support when you need it the most! Thank you to the Midway for letting us use their place!Thank you to all donators, musicians, auctioneer, family & friends who showed up!!! And thank you so much for those who helped us throughout the day with everything! We are beyond grateful! 🩷 now let’s pray to get this baby home & healthy!!

Update: 2 weeks post-op and all things considered, Daanya is doing pretty well. She’s such a strong and resilient warrior babe and we are so proud of her! The swelling has since gone down and every day she inches closer to feeling and being her happy little self. Yet another complication was uncovered not long after the surgery and we know she will be in the hospital for at least 5 more weeks now. Please join us in hoping and praying that is it and we can finally take our sweet baby home with us.

What a toll a surgery takes on the body, and even more so, one that took 12+ hours. ❤️‍🩹 It may be hard to tell by the pictures but she looks twice her size now due to swelling and edema. All things considered, Daanya fought like the little warrior baby she is and she is doing pretty well. Thank God for that! 🤲🏼 We are still in the post-op phase and they are keeping a close eye on her. The team was very pleased with her in the OR and they continue to be happy with her progression post-op. We are all already noticing how much better she handled this surgery as compared to the last one. 😊 Keep battling, baby girl! Mama and Baba can’t wait to take you home!

Soaking up the time with our sweet Daanya as we anxiously await surgery on Friday. The surgeon says it will be very difficult and take all day, but the medical team has been preparing in every way possible. Due to her history in the OR, we expect it will take at least a month to recover from such a big operation. We hope and pray that God will take care of her through it all and she will ultimately be able to come home with us in the not too distant future. More prayers are always welcome! 💕

I’m a pretty private person these days and I don’t like posting on social media, so mostly only family and friends of family know. And even they don’t REALLY know the extent of just how difficult it is to have a child who is critically ill, with no real idea of when life might begin outside the hospital. It was hard for me to even allow others to know our story because I’m not good at asking for help, but I’m asking now. If anyone so wishes to contribute to our escalating medical bills and costs in general, we would be sincerely grateful.
