Found this little gem for 20% off at a few weeks ago. The game is called Aquicorn Cove and is based on the graphic novel by the same name. The art is adorable and encourages you to work together to rebuild your fishing village without polluting or overfishing. I could stare at this game forever!

Been working through a three character solo campaign of the Shadowed Path expansion for The Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle-earth from . We’ve had to face all manner of terrifying beast on our adventure! Who’s your favourite Middle-earth character? Mine is Gimli, but I had to give him a break for this play to try out the new characters.

It was the battle of the Noble Pigs as and went head to head in Railoard Ink. Beginner’s luck conquered experience as Aaron took me down by two points.

What’s your favourite installation of Railroad Ink? I think blue is my fave.

Getting some Dinoblivion plays in over the last several days. My first game was rusty and I lost badly. Came back with two strong victories. If you’re looking for a dinosaur themed deckbuilder with resource management and engine building that’s good for 1-2 players AND is designed by a Canadien, look no further!

Our second game is here and you can download it down free right now (check link in bio)! Viridian: Final Reckoning is a flip & fill area control game for one or more players.

You are a young general in the Viridian army, a group of animals sworn to protect their forest. The invading humans look to exploit its resources and destroy your home. Your goal is to defeat as many enemies as possible - place enough of your troops within striking distance to take them down. Every defeated enemy is another addition to your war resume. Each battle has specific goals you must meet in order to survive. Regardless of your score, if you do not meet the mission goal, you die. Not only are you battling for survival, but you’re also fighting to become the next leader of Viridian. The player with the highest score becomes the next Viridian High Marshal.

This games has been 90% complete for almost a year and we decided to finish it off in the last month for a contest on BoardGameGeek. We are still very open to making changes so now is your chance to contribute to the process! Download the game (there are even low ink versions) and give it a spin!

A little lunchtime Patchwork on the floor during lunch today. Winnie (5 yo) was only team and refused to let me choose where to put our pieces. We still manage to eke out the win by two points over Ardyn (7 yo). What’s your favourite game to play with the kids?

I got absolutely destroyed by my 7 yo daughter last night playing Kingdomino. It was her first time playing with the 7x7 grid and let’s just say, maybe we shouldn’t play that way anymore.

Almost escaped the dragon’s lair, but he caught up with me only a few spaces from the exit. At least the villagers dragged my injured body and my pile of loot back to the nearest for healing!

Clank! is a deck-building game for 1-4 players (up to 6 now with their newest expansion). I find the game drags on a little bit with more than three players, but I haven’t tried a big game with the Adventuring Party expansion that adds some new cards to engage players when it’s not their turn. For me, 1-3 players is the sweet spot. An easy to use app makes this a fun and frantic solo game. It’s actually my favourite solo game, and that’s saying something!

If you haven’t headed into the depths to see who can secure the greatest riches from the dragon’s horde...why not???

I’d been looking for a really good two player game for a while and people have pointed Patchwork to me for years. Well, this Christmas my wife () bought it for me! It’s a nice, quick game to pull out that has pretty colours and Tetris-esque pieces! It’s simple enough that my seven year old daughter can play it with me. Have you tried Patchwork? What did you think? What’s your favourite two player game? I’m always looking for new ones!

An epic fantasy showdown! Have you played The Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle-earth? This was ALMOST the game I’ve always wanted. Love the art, miniatures, theme, and the cardplay, but I loathe that timer! Just let me explore and kill things. Also, two plays of the base game campaign and I lost on the last mission each time. No redos. A waste of time! But I’m playing it again anyway, so what’s wrong with me?

Well, Zombie Kidz: Evolution was definitely worth the $24 we spent on it! Since Christmas Day we’ve played 30 times and opened up the last envelope. My daughter was often the initiator of playing because she really wanted to open those envelopes! She forced me to play three games this morning to get that last envelope. This week I’ll work on a full review for BoardGameGeek. Bye bye bye, zombies!

Happy New Year everyone! Feels like Dungeon Bounty is taking a lot longer than expected, however, this Christmas break has given us a chance to peck away at some more of the art. No specific kick starter date yet, but we are definitely past the half way point on our designs. So expect to see some more teasers in the coming days. Thanks for hanging out with us, and sharing in our board game adventures!

Played Quacks of Quedlinburg twice this week. I’m really liking the push your luck element mixed with the potion “deck building”. This game was a tight finish! My wife and I both tied with 55, same amount of gems, and so our tie breaker had to go to distance in the mixing pot. Sadly I lost by 3 spaces.
It felt kind of odd playing a board game side by side on our laptops. But we still had fun. Anyone else been doing this to test out a game before buying?

We’ve all had to get creative in the board game hobby this year. One of my favourite games to play through video chat is Cartographers. I recently made a spreadsheet for us to use and it worked great! Not quite as good as having beside me drawing our maps with pencil and paper, but it was still pretty special!

We picked this gem up from Walmart on the weekend for $40 (apparently it was on sale). We’ve played it three times this weekend, culminated in an epic takedown of Red Skull by Wasp and Ant-Man. My daughter Ardyn (7) couldn’t quite grasp the full strategy of the game, but she did enjoy punching and kicking bad guys.

I’m so thankful for this crew and our bi-weekly game night! The chance to connect and encourage each other has been such a great reprieve from the chaos of 2020. I (Aaron) totally won cartographers, until we realized I was playing with my own completely incorrect understanding of a card... I think I might get a sharpie and adjust that card for the next time we play😉. Then maybe I’ll win.

I’m sure most of you would agree that one of the greatest things about the board gaming hobby is being able to share it with others. This year I’m teaching online and I work with a whole new team (twelve feet apart and masked whenever closer). My new bestie Brad spent one of our first mornings together asking me personal questions and we quickly arrived at board games. It’s only been a few weeks since that day and now I’m getting these great pictures of him playing my copy of Spirit Island with his girlfriend. What a delight to share the joy of board games!

I was inspired by some solo gamers on BGG who make their Cartographers’ maps detailed and colourful, so I pulled out the coloured pencils for this solo game. The icing on the cake? Scored a 35 and become a Legendary Cartographer.
