The way captions and court reporters have done business for decades may change if this bill passes! Many, especially small, captioning companies rely on independent contractors to cover overflow work. Independent Contractors need the flexibility to work for multiple companies. Please write to your U.S. House of Representative to oppose this bill. Thanks!

"Call to action to oppose reclassification of independent contractors as employees

NCRA Government Relations is issuing this call to action to urge NCRA members to contact their elected representatives to note their opposition of H.R. 842, Protecting the Right to Organize Act of 2021 (PRO Act). The Pro Act seeks to amend the federal definition of employee within the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA), and in doing so, attempts to reclassify independent contractors as employees.

If the PRO Act is enacted, our freelance court reporters’ independent contractor status may be at risk and our freelance reporters’ ability to provide essential services, such as federally mandated captioning access to the deaf and hard-of-hearing communities, may be inhibited.

To answer our call to action, download the letter, include your representative’s name and contact information, date and sign your name in the relevant areas, and email the letter to your elected representative. Please also send to anyone you know who may not be a member of NCRA, so they are informed and can help in this grassroots effort to ensure that all voices are heard."

Let the Aurora Games begin

The Aurora Games start Tuesday, 8/20/19! Coast 2 Coast Captioning is honored to be the captioning provider for this historic event!

The Aurora Games were conceived by Jerry Solomon, who is the husband of figure skater Nancy Kerrigan.

"I was watching the 2016 Rio [Summer] Olympic Games…and I was realizing that there were more women on the U.S. Olympic Team than men for the first time in history. But as the Olympics were going on, the stories were predominately about the men, and the men were getting most of the coverage…I think it’s time for an event that is all about the women, that it’s not putting the women under the umbrella of the men, where they get compared to how the men are doing and playing."
