Women are entitled to all rights set forth in the constitution.
This is highlighted in "We The People of Zimbabwe," an opening phrase in the constitution's preamble. Who is referred to as "the people" in the constitution?
Section 35 (2) states that every Zimbabwean citizen is entitled to equal rights, privileges and benefits of citizenship. Thus, "the people" refers to citizens.
This means every woman who is a citizen by birth, descent and registration [Section 35 (1)] has equal rights to land, education, property and economic opportunities with men.
These rights have been on paper since 2013. Are they being implemented?

Harare - President Emerson Mnangagwa says non-working sections of society should stay at home as a measure to curb Covid-19.
He said only essential workers should enter the Central Business District. For everyone else, the only travel permitted is when buying food and seeking medication.
Nevertheless, a cloud of mist encircles his directive. There is no clarification on who constitutes the non-working public.
Zimbabwe's labour force has 3,463,512 people, says ZimStat. 34% of these are employed under informal and household sectors.
All these are classified as a working class under the new definition of decent work according to 2019's Child Labour Force and Child Labour Survey report.
Act4Women prioritises health. Nevertheless it also believes women are instrumental in fighting Covid-19. They grow 70% of Africa's food (World Economic Forum) and are a driving force in the food supply chain.

Comesa now going digital.
The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (Comesa) has developed a digital trading platform in response to Covid-19's economic effects.
This platform will be used to alert regional members on availability of essential products. It is also set to help small scale traders.
It will help cross-border traders and Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs) access market information thereby linking producers, sellers and buyers, says Ms Chileshe Kapwepwe, the bloc's Secretary-General.
Act4Women believes there is need for rolling digital trading platforms in Zimbabwe's SME sector. This will add value to businesses and open more marketing opportunities for women in enterprise.
Value addition is one of Act4Women's main thrust.

Government has hinted on reviewing lockdown preventive measures.
President Mnangagwa said this is due a spike in Covid-19 infections.
Nick Mangwana, a government official echoes. He says should preventive measures be scaled up, a full-scale lockdown should only apply to Harare and Bulawayo.
Nevertheless, stringent containment measures may further hemorrhage the economy. This is because the two cities carry Zimbabwe's largest markets.
Prior, farmers lost their produce due to rot. They could not access markets owing to both inter- and intra-city travel bans.

The state must encourage people to grow and store adequate food, states the Constitution of Zimbabwe on section 15 (1) (a).
To do this, one must have land. No person may be deprived of their right to occupy agricultural Under section 289 (1) (f) of the constitution.
Therefore, it is imperative that government institutions prioritize marginalized populations (rural farmers, women and youths) as they are instrumental in value and food supply chains.
Rural farming is the backbone of the nation as echoed by FAO in its report.
Zimbabweans remain largely a rural people who derive their livelihood from agriculture and other related rural economic activities, it states in 'Zimbabwe at a glance.'

Value can be added to wheat in many ways.
One way to produce grain for use in feed or food products. Wheat straw, a waste product, can be harvested, processed and then turned into building materials.
Moreover, wheat grain can be converted into organic natural foods and sold at health food stores. This shows that more is needed than just producing. Processing is also important.
Why can't we have farmers who can process as well and produce more goods? You can only learn after being taught.
