Are you too busy for your potential customer?

Social media is ONE aspect of your business.
Creating content and encouraging engagement is just the FIRST STEP.

Many businesses make the mistake of being too busy for their customers, or just not taking the time to have a short chat with them at the first point of contact.

If you are receiving questions from potential clients and sending them directly to a link WITHOUT chatting to them first, you’re going to signal to this person that you are too busy for THEM.

People want to connect with YOU not a page link. If they ask the price of a specific product or service, then tell them. Don’t just send them to a link.

Generate a CONVERSATION with this potential customer as this is THE WHOLE POINT of social media. Ask if they have used this type of service or product in the past, why they might be needing it. You don’t need to spend all day talking to them, just a moment.

Make time for your potential customers, they may not be ready to buy from you just yet, but conversation is the first step in the ‘know - like - trust’ process.

When it’s school holidays and you’re deep in the ‘work zone.’

After about 20 minutes of having the feeling that something was irritating my arm, my concentration finally broke and I looked down to find… a peg….

According to my little guy the peg was hungry.😂

Are you still in your comfort zone?

I'm an introvert (I've mentioned this before I know) I also suffer from social anxiety and have been a bit of a hermit for 30 years... Ok not my WHOLE life, but certainly for the last 10 years or so.

The trouble with that was...I held myself back. You can't grow ANYTHING without putting yourself out there a little (except plants in your garden of course lol, no need to leave the house for that😉)

This year I made a commitment to myself to venture out of my comfort zone and meet new people. To help grow my businesses and grow personally.
(I dipped my toes in at the start of last year, this year I'm doing it full force.)

Last night I went to an event by the AMAZING Liz-Fry.Com - Coach who is a Be Bold facilitator...Usually I wouldn't go out to something like this let alone know anyone...

But because I've been putting myself out there, I've met so many wonderful people this year and guess what.... I knew SIX people!! (I'm still in shock lol.)

I love picking edible flowers straight from my garden to use in cooking, they add flavour, nutrients and colour...not to mention they make me happy😊

A great bonus is that my son thinks they are sprinkles so he loves it too!

Scheduling tip:
Getting distracted? Hard to focus? Always finding something ‘more important’ to do instead?

Schedule times in the week to create content when you know you won’t be busy or get distracted by other things.

For me, Sundays are a ‘NO WORK’ day.
I usually catch up with a friend for coffee during the day and go out in the evening.
I don’t schedule in times for work on a Sunday as I know it likely won’t be achieved. That’s not to say I don’t get any done…If I have some spare time, I will make use of it, but it is just a bonus on top of my regular scheduled work times.

Don’t let excuses like “I’m too busy” or “I don’t have time” to be your reason for not planning your social media content.
Make time for this aspect of your business as it is just as vital as accounting or working with clients.

Don’t try to be everywhere!
When I first started out in business, I had accounts for Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Youtube and Pinterest… I'll tell you now, It DIDN'T work.
It wasn't until I started to focus my energy on just Facebook and Instagram that I started to see results.

If you try to be everywhere at once you’re going to crash and burn. Usually what works on one platform doesn’t work on another, so, you can easily burn yourself out trying to create content for ALL of these at once.

To avoid feeling exhausted, pick 1 (or 2) that you know your ideal customer uses and then DO IT WELL.
Stick to it, make a commitment. Make time to write posts and to engage with your followers.

I’m a creative person, I write, I sing, I draw (occasionally.)
I write poetry, I write for my businesses and I write for client’s businesses.
My head is an ever-flowing stream of ideas…It gets messy! Unless I write them down.
I’m not a naturally organized person but, I’m learning and so can you!

This year to keep track of what is going on in my mind and in my life, I’m using a diary to keep track of events and a note book to write down just about anything. When I’m on the go, if I don’t have my books with me then I use the note app on my phone and transfer it in when I get home.
There needs to be a little order to the chaos to make good things happen.

We live in a digital age where almost anything can be done on a device.
For business this can be a good thing as it makes things EASIER and FASTER.

Can’t afford a photographer for your products?
Take them on your phone and edit them with a free app.

Don’t want to run back to your car to extend your parking time? Do it with a free app without getting out of your seat!

I’d love to know what your favourite apps are that help you in business.

Who do you stand for?
Who are your people?
Who do you want your message to reach?
Who needs to hear it?
Being really clear on this can help when it comes to the way we write.
Are those the people that are going to read the messages?
For example, if it is young people, do you need to be writing in a way that parents might pick up on it?

Know who you are talking to when you write your posts.

Need more TIME in your life and your business?
Turn OFF notifications.

Having social media notifications turned on can be a real TIME WASTER.

As soon as you get a notification that you have a new message or comment, you’re right there checking it. This goes for your business and personal page. Notifications disrupt concentration and create poor focus on the task at hand.

Worried you will miss a message from a potential customer?
Schedule times for you to check messages and respond to social engagement throughout the day and then stick to it!

Make your time your own, whether you’re working hard or spending quality time with family.

How are you putting your business out there?
For people to become your customers, they first need to know your business EXISTS.

There are many ways to advertise what you do, but social media is one of, if not the best way to do it for FREE!

If you're not paying for advertising then your social media presence needs to be on point.
You don't need a flashing neon sign but, you do need SOMETHING to point them your way.

How are your customers finding you?

What’s on your schedule for today?
Did you leave an hour or so to EAT?

Sounds funny right?
But, a lot of business owners forget to schedule this into their day.

We get so busy and caught up in the work we are doing that we often FORGET to eat. Doing this can have a huge negative impact on your mood, your focus and your production.

Clients keeping you too busy to eat?
If you can, space your clients slightly further apart to give you a short break between or schedule in a proper lunch time. If not, be prepared with healthy snacks on hand to eat between clients like nuts, bliss balls, homemade muffins, slices and fruit.

For those of you that are caffeine junkies…COFFEE is not food (unless it’s in a yummy slice or cake.)
Drinking cups of coffee throughout the day instead of eating may help curb those hunger pangs and give you a burst of energy but long term it’s a sure-fire way to end up with adrenal fatigue.

Take care of YOU so that you can take care of your customers BETTER.

Do you use drafts?
This can be a great way if you are mid post and something comes up, or the wording is just not sitting right.
If you want to get an idea down quickly but may not have a photo for it yet, save it in a draft and then to go back to and schedule/publish at another time.
Facebook has a build in draft tool or you can simply use something like Word or notepad.

Don’t feel like posting?
Then don’t!!
It may be surprising, but when we’re not in the mood, it comes across in the tone and the way we write.
You’re far better taking a breather, a walk around the block, getting back in nature, just doing whatever is YOUR thing to get back in the zone, then try and write from there.

Posts coming across as sales-y?

Stop HIDING yourself!
Write your posts as if you were TALKING to someone you know personally.
Be polite but be REAL.
Be YOURSELF.
Don’t be afraid to be a little vulnerable. Talk about things that matter to you. Show your followers that you’re a real PERSON.
When you let people connect with you, they can’t help but want to support you.

Mondays are ‘no work’ days for me. I have the little guy at home with me so we spend it doing stuff together and cleaning the house.
This morning I managed to get some posts scheduled, but other then that it was a day for us.
It has been raining most of the day so we stayed inside (except for the part where we ran around outside in the rain.) We did some reading, baking and playing with wooden farm animals.

Do you write blogs?
What happens once you have it written up?
You post it on your website and social media accounts?
What then?

A lot of TIME and EFFORT goes into writing a blog, it seems a shame to just get one or two uses out of it….

Here are 5 ways to re-purpose your blog posts….

1. Do you use quotes from others in your posts? How about quoting yourself in your memes! Which striking sentence/question could stand out and catch people’s attention?

2. Can you turn it into a list or choose three top tips out of it?

3. Could you turn it into a poll and ask your followers their thoughts on it?

4. Do you have some sort of archive system where you have all your writings? That way it is to hand for when another opportunity comes up, which may be a guest blog or awareness day for example.

5. Can you add Call to actions into your signature on emails? E.g. read my latest blog here. Want some more tips on ###? Click here.
