Bentley CEO Frank-Steffen Walliser highlighted the UAE as a key market for ultra-exclusive bespoke cars in an interview with The National, revealing plans for the brand’s first all-electric luxury SUV, set to debut in 2027.

Walliser also reflected on striking a balance with heritage, as the carmaker transitions toward full electrification by 2035. “If you stay too much in the past and you do not develop design and brand, you lose your reputation over time,” he said.

Founded by Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi, Bait Elowal blends Emirati and Moroccan influences while paying homage to Sharjah’s history as a trading hub along the Silk Road.

“I wanted Bait Elowal to reflect that sense of homecoming, a place that embraces visitors as if they were returning from a long voyage, where every dish, craft and space carries echoes of the journeys that have shaped us,” Sheikha Bodour told The National during a visit to the newly opened restaurant.

Beside being a charming dining spot, Bait Elowal also serves as a cultural space, with a bookstore featuring historical works and an arts and crafts boutique showcasing regional artisans.

The February issue of The National’s Luxury magazine is here. In our pages this month you’ll find our cover shoot with Emirati urban planner and general manager at Miza’s .ae Alamira Reem Al Hashimi. Being the first Emirati woman to obtain a PhD in urban planning - she literally wrote the book on urban planning in Abu Dhabi - Al Hashimi spent the first part of her career thinking of cities from a bird’s eye view. Now in her leadership role at the heart of Miza’s rapidly growing creative ecosystem, she’s making a difference on the ground.

Elsewhere in the issue we discover the importance of highlighting the role of the perfumer, look into how Middle Eastern collectors are influencing the world of watchmaking, travel to Japan with Leen Al Zaben, explore the Islamic Arts Biennale in Jeddah and run designer Zaid Farouki through our One Last Thing questionnaire. All that and more in the latest issue of Luxury, inside today’s edition of The National.

Earlier today, at the Bvlgari Yacht Club in Dubai, Jean-Christophe Babin, chief executive of Bvlgari, unveiled the MB&F x Bvlgari Serpenti watch for men, a collaboration between the luxury house and independent watchmaker MB&F.

Crafted with a distinctive snake head-shaped case, the timepiece is available in three variations: white gold with blue, rose gold with green, and all-black, with only 99 pieces released worldwide.

“Many watches for women are made either exclusively for women or are variations on a men's watch,” Babin said at the event. “Now, for the first time in watchmaking history, a ladies' watch has birthed a man's watch.”
