When we film an interview, we always go for a wide & tight set-up. What does that mean, though– and why is it such a great set-up? Well, wide & tight really just means that we’re filming from two cameras at the same time in about the same spot. One camera will film a wide-angle look at the scene, so we can capture any big gestures, and another camera will capture a much tighter angle for close-ups that really highlight facial expressions. This baseline set-up gives us a ton of versatility– and some really fun chances to get creative in every shoot 🎬

Prepping gear for our bigger shoots usually means spending... a lot of time in our garage. And the truth is, we love this slightly-less-glamorous part of production just as much as we love being on set– making sure we’ve got batteries charged and cables organized and pelican cases packed gets us in gear for all the creativity of a shoot day ✨

Getting organized before a shoot is one of our favorite parts of producing videos! These filters are used for both videography and photography across a ton of different scenarios, and we always make sure they’re all set so we can be prepared for anything that comes up on shoot day. It doesn’t get much better than feeling like you’re ready for whatever the day throws at you!

When we started to work with our friend Sara at Speak Masterfully, we knew exactly why this video would be so important. Sara is a public speaking coach, which is the kind of skill that’s truly difficult to capture in just images or words. We knew this would be an absolute blast to shoot– Sara truly nailed every take, just like you’d expect from someone in her line of work! And more importantly, she’s going to be able to use what we created together to showcase her work way more effectively to potential clients. Keep an eye out for the finished video!

Being partners in business and also in marriage means that even our days off get spent together! And yes, you may notice that this picture doesn’t exactly look like summer in the city– no further comment what that says about how often we’re actually taking that time off ;)

One of our favorite things is telling a story just by choosing an interview’s location. For this project with Healthline Media called “Secrets of My Success”, we interviewed DaQuane Cherry- a thriving artist about managing his psoriasis. It was so rewarding to frame this shot in his workspace to showcase exactly what he loves about his work. Storytelling is all about visuals, and this one came through strong!

Getting to meet inspiring interviewees is one of the best things about our work. Our subject for this project was Lindsey Bliss, who told us all about managing her Psoriatic Arthritis through shifting her mindset. She’s a doula, an author, founder of Carriage House Birth and a mom of 7. Hearing about her journey over the years managing her health while achieving so much was truly inspiring. It was a genuinely amazing experience to hear from such a vibrant, thoughtful person, and we couldn’t be prouder of the final video.

All of the equipment we use to set up for a shot might seem complicated from an outside perspective– and the truth is, there ARE a ton of variables we’re keeping track of on set to make sure your brand looks and sounds excellent in the final edit. There’s a reason why experience matters so much in video production. A less experienced crew might get overwhelmed and let things slip through the cracks, such as monitoring for exposure like we’re doing here for a shoot with Bridge2Balance. When you work with a team like ours, we’re putting our decades of combined experience to work, and anticipating potential problems before they happen. This means we can focus on what really matters on set: connecting with our clients, and capturing their story the way it deserves to be told.

You might’ve heard the phrase “just fix it in post” if you’ve spent any time around video production.
