"My innermost dream is to connect with as many people as possible, in as many possible ways; to find the best medium to connect with them and share my dreams, my fears, my thoughts…perhaps write a book or come up with a great Ted talk...I want to inspire others to overcome challenges.
My activism is centred on freedom in Venezuela and better representation and diversity in Australia. I believe in a just world. I often dream that I could find this role where I could be a voice that makes a difference. As a result of finding that roar, that inner voice, people would listen to important things like diversity and representation in decision making forums. Then there are other issues, like the respect for others and their culture and the exploration of the concept of assimilation and what it truly means. We need a serious discussion about what multiculturality really means to people in Australia. And is it truly valid, when you have a monoculture that is making key decisions? That is not enough, in my opinion. Multiculturalism is a way of hearing everyone. When I was job-seeking, I didn’t get many call backs until I added “Smith” to my surname, only then I started to get called for interviews. That should not happen.

PuraVida, the critically acclaimed Latin Music Road Show returns to Canberra to celebrate our Nation’s Capital 100th anniversary on Tuesday 12 March presenting a lineup of groundbreaking music makers – the seductive tangos of Ambre Hammond & Marcello Maio, Brazil’s Camerata Caipira, revealing the incredible diversity of traditional Brazilian music, Afro-Peruvian roots and electronica sensations, Novalima and Colombia’s most famous touring salsa orchestra, La 33 - in what promises to be a refreshing way to finish off a massive week end of festivities.

“We are delighted to ensure that these amazing musicians come to Canberra to be part of an inclusive and exciting celebration of what we have achieved as a city, as a community, as the Nation’s link to the world”, says Frank Madrid, Co-Curator of the Road Show.
Adding a Latin touch to Canberra’s Birthday celebration, the Pura Vida Road Show will stop at the Famous Spiegel Garden at 5:30 pm on Tuesday March 12th with pianist Ambre Hammond and bandoneonist Marcello Maio bringing a selection of Piazzola tunes from what has been described as “the ultimate seduction album” - Grammy Nominated Peruvian supergroup Novalima’s offering of Afro-Peruvian rhythms with the cutting edge grooves of dub reggae, and chilled-out funky Latin beats and, finally, Colombia’s LA 33 with their concoction of hard core salsa, 60’s boogaloo and Afro-Colombian roots .
The visiting artists appear with the generous support of the Embassy of Colombia in Australia and the Commonwealth through the Council on Australia Latin America Relations which is part of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and thanks to the assistance of DCE Entertainment and Latin Oz Fiesta.
