Did you know that the air children breathe on school buses is *even worse* than the air they are breathing outside from bus exhaust? Like, 10x worse.

That is something I learned (and that kind of blew my mind) from one of the first episodes from this new season of Degrees: Real talk about planet-saving careers (presented by Environmental Defense Fund), which launches TODAY! (You can find that episode with Gilbert Blue Feather Rosas here: https://www.edf.org/degrees/fastest-electric-vehicle-fleet-makeover-west).

This new season of Degrees is SUPER exciting and I hope you'll give it a listen. It features a new narrative format, expertly crafted by Elaine Appleton Grant & Podcast Allies; a new section with Yesh Pavlik Slenk & ALL the green career advice; and, new cover art (created by the talented Bee Johnson, whose clients included The New York Times, The Guardian & more).

Degrees host Yesh Pavlik Slenk talks with the ebullient Gilbert Blue Feather Rosas, who raised millions of dollars to bring electric buses to one of America’s biggest school districts.

This past month, I've been working with Father Wants Us Dead, the first true crime investigative podcast from NJ.com and The Star-Ledger. It follows two award-winning and veteran journalists as they go inside the mind of a killer, uncovering new details about the twisted 1971 John List murders.

They just launched their first three episodes TODAY and I am stoked to share it with all of you and also announce that it is already charting in the Top 50 News section on Apple Podcasts!

Love seeing my clients thrive! For all my true crime lovers out there, I hope you check it out, follow/subscribe, give it a review, and share with someone else you know will love it!

Since officially making POD.DRALAND an LLC in November, I've been working to get all my business things in order as a single-member LLC and make updates to my website, my offerings, and my online presence. And that includes making a LinkedIn business page for POD.DRALAND.

My mission continues to be to amplify women's voices in podcasting & one thing I'll be doing this year, too, is donating a portion of my income from my PR and marketing work (especially from any male clients) to the New York Abortion Access Fund.

If you're on LinkedIn (especially if you work in media, podcasting, marketing, & entertainment), I hope you'll give it a follow.

Happy One Year Anniversary to The Pod Broads! My first two episode were officially published a year ago today on February 10, 2021 and I cannot believe it has already been a full year. In this past year, I've interviewed over 28 women I truly admire in the podcasting space, I've recorded, edited, and marketed ALL of my podcasts by myself (shout out to my cover designer Elsa Bermudez & my sound designer Kerry Blu -- couldn't have done it without y'all). Special shout out to Ethan Shafran Moltz, too, for helping me get some clear background versions of my cover art :).

I've been featured in so many newsletters that I admire, my hometown paper, my Alma Mater publication, other publications & blogs, on numerous podcasts, and on various other's social media platforms (thank you all for sharing and supporting this work!).

Today, I just wanted to look back at the beginning. So, I shared a brief reflection to this bonus episode today and then I take us back to the very first interview recording I ever did -- with Rita Phetmixay of Healing Out Lao'd. I just re-listened to her episode and omg wow, how so needed & relevant it still is. I wrote done some new quotes I wanted to take with me today, too.

It is so essential to look back at our own growth, and that is what today is. A celebration of it and I can't wait for what is in store for The Pod Broads in this next year.

I’m relaunching my newsletter tomorrow (January 17, 2022) & its going to be published on the full moon of each month! 🌙🔮🌙

As I am learning from author Sarah Faith Gottesdiener, the moon is "feminist art" and "the closest symbol to us of the divine feminine...[and a tool for us] to examine what the feminine encompasses, and how this can be expanded upon and evolved." (Shout out to The Witch Wave podcast for introducing me to her book).

My work centers on women in podcasting and uplifting the voices of women in this industry. That being said, the feminine is not strictly for women, but this connection to the moon will guide my women centric newsletter writing!

And will hopefully help all of us (whoever is subscribed) break free from strictly thinking about the weeks and months in terms of work schedules.

Some highlights on what will be a part of it:
✨ women in podcasting news
✨ monthly check in to celebrate/set intentions for the next month
✨ updates on my podcast The Pod Broads
✨ features of listener responses and reviews
✨ and what we're letting go of that month

TODAY on The Pod Broads, I speak with Lindsey Simcik & Krista Williams of Almost 30 Podcast.

It was such a pleasure to have them on the podcast and I love how deep we get — and how calming this episode feels.

We chat about intuition, boundaries, taking responsibility, and dealing with conflict.

They also share about their relationship with each other, reflect on the evolutions of Almost 30, and talk a bit about what they see for it next year.

Can’t wait for y’all to listen: https://thepodbroadspodcast.buzzsprout.com/1592776/9520759-lindsey-simcik-and-krista-williams-of-almost-30

"I think there may be the assumption that people who enjoy paranormal stories or who are involved with paranormal events, are a bunch of “scary devil-worshipping creeps.” But in actuality, every single person we have met has been an amazing human being. I think people who love this stuff are used to being on the outside; they have a lot of empathy for anyone else who is used to not fitting in. And they’re just the nicest people ever. " - Becky Kilimnik of Homespun Haints in an interview on Luna Luna Magazine

So stoked that I got to interview my client Becky for this interview. It's such a great in-depth look at the craft behind the podcast, but also the paranormal community:

-the start of the podcast & Becky's childhood experience in Appalachia w/ oral storytelling

-the original artwork & music by Becky

-the issue of how whitewashed paranormal media is

-misconceptions about the paranormal community

& more!

I was interviewed by Sounder for their series and it is such an honor to be a part of it! Hope you all check it out and join us on Wednesday, Sept, 29th for an IG live chat!

In this month's interview, Alexandra Cohl shares how creativity, intersectional representation, and collaboration remain central to her audio journey.

Writer, educator, and podcast PR pro, Alexandra is dedicated to uplifting women’s voices in Pod.draland and every episode of The Pod Broads (Pssst: season 2 just dropped this week)!

“I know the power that audio can have on reaching audiences in a new way,” she tells us, “whether for pleasure or education or something else. And, if there are voices and identities not present in the production room or the hosting or guest chair, there are going to be so many needed perspectives that are missed or overlooked in the content itself.”

Find out more here: https://blog.sounder.fm/meet-alexandra-cohl-from-our-september-soundher-podcast-feature-pod-draland/.

And PLEASE, if you want to ask Alexandra about her work, comment with your question. We’ll get to it when with Alexandra next Wednesday, 9/29, at 7:30 p.m EST. Make sure you're following us on IG so you can jump in: https://www.instagram.com/sounder.fm/.

We also get into America’s problematic relationship w/ productivity, the first story she ever wrote & I ask Nichole some very difficult questions regarding Hozier and Chris Evans.

Love this piece on The Ghost Attic written by my clients, Becky and Diana, of the podcast Homespun Haints! If you love paranormal stories and investigations, or ghost stories in general, you'll love hearing all about these spooky happenings during paranormal investigations. Have you ever watched a paranormal investigation and wanted to know more about what happened behind the scenes? What did the investigators feel emotionally? How were the investigators affected in ways that were not captured on camera or were edited out of the final footage?

Happy 2nd birthday to .draland 🥳!!!

Two years ago exactly I launched what started it all: my first few blog posts featuring podcast episodes from & w/ & .

It was one scrolling page when I barely knew how to use Squarespace. I had sketched out the logo & found a way to put it on my website.

Since then, it has grown to SO much more:
- a place where I offer PR & social media strategy services to podcasters (primarily women)
- The Pod Broads, my podcast all about & with the women in podcasting
- three different recommendation blog sections
- merchandise! Cute things to wear and stick on things!
- and more!

✨ Much of this work is self-funded. If you have the means & you have found value in this page (blog, newsletter, podcast) over the last two years, I hope you’ll consider sending a birthday gift to .draland via Venmo (handle: zandraland) or on the tip page on my website. It will go toward the new season of The Pod Broads & building an LLC✨

When I launched, I was working in a job that was sucking the life & happiness from me. I was about to start my final semester of grad school.

And, I was making this step toward a completely different career path than I had initially been on, nervous & excited all at the same time.

I’ve been reframing the way I think about work, how my life can be, & what I can accomplish. Been freaked out about money & “shoulds” & time.

But, I’ve also made the most money I’ve ever made in my life (EVER & it’s really now just a fair rate which I had never experienced before), have continued to meet amazing women & other folks within this industry, have had dopeee contracts, got my women clients placements for their work, and learned (I’m getting better at it!) how to set better boundaries with work related stuff.

This next year is gonna be even more, and I can’t wait to share what is coming next with you.

Thank you for being here with me & sharing yourself with me here. It means so much & I just hope I can keep bringing content to you that resonates with, entertains, and helps you 💛.

Dropping this here in honor of the start of .

It seems a bit like a cruel joke to have April Fools on the start of a month dedicated to bringing awareness to sexual assault and education around it—when too often those who reveal they have been sexually abused or assaulted are questioned or approached as if they are making it up.

My page, podcast, blog, platform, etc. is and has always been trauma informed and my own experience with sexual abuse (and healing work after the fact) has guided the way I interact with others and view the world.

I want to take this moment to shout out a few other pages that deal with this topic and that you should follow if you want more resources, information, and support on your feed:

Love to you all and especially my fellow survivors out there. You are amazing 💪🏼💗

What do you know about the fallacy of objectivity? Who is allowed to be “objective” and how bias impacts the stories we tell.

Today on we are listening to Siona Peterous of OwnYourStories and we talk alllll about this. Especially as it pertains to certain news cycle—like the way news outlets reported on the shootings in Atlanta two weeks ago.

You’ll also hear:

✨how confirmation bias affects all of us, regardless of political sides

✨how she actively works to check that bias and how you can too, especially while scrolling through Twitter

✨intersectionality and how it impacts the way Siona engages in her work and asks questions

✨the craft choices in storytelling for season two of OwnYourStories (out now!)

I LOVE this chat with Isabeth so much. And as you’ll hear in the interview, it all started from a quote of hers & me following her work on social.

And here is some more you’ll get from this interview:

👉🏼 Isa’s progression from public health to podcasting & how she was able to break into the industry quite quickly

👉🏼 major mental health chat throughout, including a few insights into pandemic specific anxiety & depression and tips for setting boundaries with social media (especially as someone who *works* in social media)

✨Thank you for 265! ✨ It has been just over a week since I launched and as of this morning I have this many downloads. Like, what!?

Thank YOU! Truly. Could not have done it without you and without your shares and support. It means so much seeing people take the time to listen and check it out 🥰.

This past Saturday, Kerry Blu gave me the sweetest toast so shout out to him for making it special and snapping this Polaroid (swipe).

I am remembering to celebrate the small wins and the monumental moments that happen regardless of how many people are watching or listening.

So, a good reminder for us to make fun these moments and celebrate ourselves at different stages of our work and projects.

🚨I am also thinking of a future—digital—way to celebrate one month with y’all in real time. So, gimme a comment if you would be down for a virtual event/what type you’d want to attend! 👇🏼

In the mean time, tomorrow a *new* episode drops and I can’t wait to share it with y’all. It was actually the very first one I recorded (a little out of order, I know) and it is with a super rad chick who is doing some very important work.

Keep a look out for that announcement & be sure to subscribe to get your episode the minute it drops. 🙌🏼

✨FIRST TWO EPISODES ✨ Out now! Listen here: https://thepodbroadspodcast.buzzsprout.com

Episode 1: features Jessica Lanyadoo and her podcast Ghost of a Podcast.

We cover a lot in this episode but some highlights include Jessica’s journey into dope ass astrologer, how that work led to a podcast, and how Trump’s presidency changed her relationship with her work. We also talk about performative vs. true allyship and the fear of being wrong.

Episode 2: Lauren Williams and her pod Imperfectly Phenomenal Woman.

Another conversation full of such necessary discussions. Lauren & I talk about one of my favorite topics: how all every day women have a voice that needs to be heard & something important to share, how a break up led to her podcast, and how she implements self-care habits during the pandemic & in the creation of her podcast and social content.

🚨Please download, subscribe, and leave a five star written review! This helps people find the podcast and these episodes.

AND when you have finished listening, come back here and leave me a comment of a part that resonates with you. I (and other listeners) want to hear your thoughts! 💛

✨ INTRODUCING: THE POD BROADS ✨, my very first, fully self-produced podcast.

Tap👇🏼 for a teaser from the trailer, out today!

🚨First two episodes drop THIS Wednesday @ 5:00 a.m. EST. Subscribe so you don’t miss an episode!

Each week, I will interview a woman in the podcast industry about her current work, her career path, and how her personal life intersects with all of that.

After 20 years of podcasting, still only a third of the hosts are women & that's not even touching on the behind the scenes positions. 😤

We'll talk about mental health, imposter syndrome, the personal and the political, workplace culture, challenges and wins, & other reflections.

Special shout out to a few people who have been instrumental in the making of this podcast:

#1: Elsa Bermudez created the beautiful artwork for the cover. She is one of my fave artists & you should all follow her work *immediately* https://instagram.com/oddaht?igshid=h2qsj35dwekd

#2: Kerry Blu. My man & my rock. All throughout my imposter syndrome woes, recording equipment issues, computer crashes & lost files, and everything else, he has been there to support & encourage me. He also made the bomb ass music for my intro & outro and let me tell you IT IS A BANGER.

#3: Lauren Popish, creator of The Wave Podcasting https://thewavepodcasting.com. She provided me with the correct equipment and much needed guidance along the way. I could not have done it without her.

#4: Sarah Park & Jackie Harris for the MUCH NEEDED feedback on the trailer.

#5: All of you. This community that we have here is the reason this has become a thing. Your ongoing support and willingness to share parts of yourself & your energy with me and my content. I deeply appreciate it.

I really hope you love it & I DEFINITELY want to know that you are listening. Hashtag and when you post and of course tag me so I can shout *you* out 💛.
