Mount Ogden towering above Sherbrooke Lake.
Summer is not yet over. If you want to explore one of the best hikes in Yoho National Paek.
We try to do this hike every year and there’s a reason why - 360deg views.
You’re hitting multiple birds in one stone.
📍 Trailhead:
From Lake Louise, go west on the Trans-Canada Hwy (Yoho National Park) for about 15km.
The parking lot is 200 meters past the Great Divide Lodge, across Wapta Lake. There is a sign, just follow it.
1️⃣ Paget Lookout
Paget Lookout is the oldest surviving fire lookout in the national parks.
- Easy gentle ascent on a well marked trail
- Class 1 (easy/moderate)
- Distance: 3.6km one way
- Elevation gain: 520m
You have the option to proceed to Paget Peak.
2️⃣ Paget Lookout to Paget Peak
360deg views ( Mount Ogden, Sherbrooke Lake, Wapta Lake, Kicking Horse river…etc).
- Elev gain: 1000 m (total)
- Class 2/3 (moderate)
- Distance: 9.8Km
- Scrambling & scree involved.
Trail: To continue to Paget Peak, the trail is just behind a big boulder on the door side of the fire lookout.
There’s a short 2meters downclimb at the north end of the false summit. There’s exposure involved and not recommended if you have vertigo.
3️⃣ Sidetrip to Sherbrooke Lake on your way down if you still have the energy in you. It’s a bonus.
