Mukata proposes sharing children’s monthly expenses equally with ex-wife!

Former Chilanga UPND member of parliament Keith Mukata has asked the Lusaka High Court to order that he and his ex-wife Maricho H***e should equally contribute towards their children’s monthly expenses amounting to K79,000 until they are independent.
According to an affidavit in support of summons for maintenance and property settlement, Mukata requested that the property acquired during the subsistence of his marriage to Maricho be sold and proceeds be equally shared amongst himself, Maricho and the children.
Mukata listed properties acquired during the subsistence of the marriage as two semi-detached flats situated at Stand No. A2381/F/3a Kwamwena Valley in Chongwe district, a five-acre plot of Subdivision B of Subdivision 15 of Farm No. 691 in Kasupe, Lusaka West; a 1.3 acre of Subdivision A of Farm No. 691 in Kasupe, Lusaka West, two hectares of Farm 4151 situated in Meanwood Park, Kitwe.
Others are a five-acre land in Meanwood, Lusaka, property on holding No. NK7A Nakatindi resettlement area in Livingstone, a Land Rover Discovery registration No. AJE 1959 and a 70-acre plot of Subdivision A of lot 9431/M situated in Lusaka.
“The matrimonial property be sold and the proceeds be distributed as follows after taking into consideration the attendant expenses such as legal fees, tax, etc: 33.3 per cent of the proceeds of sale be given to the children of the family for their university education, 33.3 per cent be given to Maricho and 33.3 percent of the proceeds be given to the respondent (himself),” Mukata suggested.
He further proposed that the properties be evaluated within 14 days of the order of the court and that Chikwendo and Associates be the valuers of the properties, or in the alternative together with Maricho’s nominated valuer.

Mukata suggested that the properties be jointly marketed, sold and conveyed by the parties’ advocates and they shall be at liberty to charge legal fees to be split in half between the pair.
“The sale shall be on the highest offer basis, the proceeds of the sale shall be paid into the respondent’s (Mukata) client account to be held in escrow,” he proposed. “The children’s share be paid into an investment account for their university education and it is proposed that both the petitioner and respondent be signatories together with two lawyers nominated by the parties.”
In relation to the maintenance of the children, Mukata claimed he had been and was still solely responsible for all their financial needs such as clothing, school expenses, feeding and medical bills.
He stated that during his incarceration he paid the children’s school fees through his driver Matthew Mtonga who could attest to his claims.
“There is no agreement between the parties regarding the maintenance of the children of the family. My monthly expenses for the maintenance of the four children is as follows: K6,000 for food and groceries, K3,000 for their medical scheme, K10,000 for their clothing per quarter, K60,000 for school fees per term inclusive of transport, food, books and other school needs,” Mukata said. “The total expenditure comes to K79,000 which I propose should be paid by both Maricho and myself equally on a 50/50 basis until such a time that the children are independent.”
He contended that if the order of monthly maintenance for the children was not granted it would not be in their best interest as it would deprive them of their livelihood.
“It will be in the interest of justice for the court to allow the property and maintenance to be shared as proposed,” submitted Mukata.

Luwingu District Commissioner (DC), Patrick Chanda has praised World Vision for its efforts in ensuring that expectant mothers are sensitized on the importance of seeking health care services.

Mr. Chanda says World Vision through its Survive to Thrive Project has helped to promote behavioral change among community members.

He explained that the project is focusing on the wellbeing of children and the reduction of maternal deaths.

‘This program has equipped community health volunteers called Safe Motherhood Action Groups (SMAGS) with skills and knowledge to educate communities on the importance of seeking health care services by expectant mothers,” he explained.

"Expectant mothers need to seek health care as early as possible to make sure that both the baby and the mother are in good health," he advised.

The DC said this when he officiated at the handover ceremony of over 300 bicycles to community health care volunteers in Luwingu district.

Mr. Chanda said the gesture by World Vision to donate bicycles to Safe Motherhood Action Groups will help address the challenges that they face to reach out to their clients who are in far-flung areas.

"With the coming of these bicycles your work has now been made easy and, therefore, do not abandon your duties by using the bicycles to run personal errands," he warned.

And World Vision Buyantashi Area Manager, Anderson Maambo, explained that his organization will endeavor to work with the government in ensuring that people in rural areas, especially expectant mothers, are educated on the importance of accessing health care services.

Mr. Maambo stated that his organization has been working with SMAGs in various communities by equipping them with skills, knowledge, and teaching materials they require when sensitizing community members on various health conditions.

He added that now that country is battling with COVID-19, health volunteers have also been educating rural communities on the preventive measures that the government has put in place through the Ministry of Health.

Mr. Maambo has since advised the beneficiaries of the bicycles to use them for the intended purpose by ensuring that community members are educated on various health-related issues.

Meanwhile, the beneficiaries, who spoke through their representative, Davies Foloko, thanked the government and World Vision for the gesture.

"The donation has come at a good time as it will help us reach all to community members, especially those in far-flung areas," he said.

Mr. Foloko has since pledged to continue encouraging the volunteers not to relent in their ex*****on of duties, noting that their transport challenge has been addressed.

The neigbourhood watch of Mutenda community in the outskirts of Chingola District on the Copperbelt province, today apprehended a suspect in connection to the gassing of unknown chemicals in some households in the area.

Addressing the residents during a meeting held at Mutenda combined school today, Chingola district Officer Commanding Peter Miselo said the suspect was apprehended by the neigbourhood watch around 01:00hrs today.

Mr. Miselo noted that the residents surrendered the suspect to police and after interrogations, the suspect admitted.

Talkbuzz reports that Mr. Miselo observed that if the community continues to work with the police in such a manner, the culprits will surely be brought to book.

He expressed happiness that the community did not take the law in their hands by performing instant justice on the suspect as he ( the suspect ) was going help finding others behind the crime.

He observed that in urban areas, the neigbourhood watch groups were banned adding that its impressive to see that in rural areas suspects are being arrested.

And speaking during the same meeting, Chingola Mayor Titus Tembo who also commended the residents advised them not to be too aggrieved and resort to damaging public property.

Mr. Tembo said destroying of public property should come to an end to lessen the already exiting challenges.

President Edgar Lungu says government is committed to transforming the production and processing of cassava in the country.

President Lungu said government will continue creating an enabling environment for cassava farmers to thrive.

He stated that the production of cassava if well harnessed has the potential to contribute to the growth of the national economy.

𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗸𝗕𝘂𝘇𝘇 reports that President Lungu said this when he launched the Sun Bird Bio Energy Zambia Limited out grower scheme in Kawambwa district.

The Head of State commended the company for partnering with government in the promotion of cassava production.

President Lungu said farmers stand to benefit from the project as there is a readily available market for them to sell their produce.

The Head of State reiterated government’s commitment to addressing challenges faced by cassava farmers so as to boost the production of the crop.

He bemoaned that lack of readily available market for cassava and the high cost of transporting cassava from the source to the market, discouraged farmers to venture in cassava production.

President Lungu has since appealed to cassava farmers to take full advantage of the Sun Bird Bio Energy out grower Scheme.

He however, implored them not to abrogate contracts once they sign with the company by selling their cassava produce elsewhere.

The President said historically cassava was grown for home consumption without value addition hence this deprived many farmers extra income as it was consumed in its row form.

And Sun Bird Energy Zambia Limited Managing Director, Richard Bennett disclosed that the nurseries for cassava cuttings to supply to out grower farmers are ready.

Mr Bennett said the company will provide training to the farmers and extension officers on how to grow quality cassava.

He pointed out that the success of the project depends on the support the company will get from local farmers.

Earlier, Minister of Agriculture, Michael Katambo assured President Lungu that the ministry will go flat out in promoting cassava production and processing.

Mr Katambo said the ministry wants households to benefit from the cassava out grower scheme.

Lusaka Province Permanent Secretary, Elias Kamanga says government through the Ministry of Agriculture has supplied 3,160 litres of chemicals to be sprayed in the affected areas.

Mr Kamanga has since directed District Agricultural coordinators (DACO) in the province to go on the ground and give technical advice to all the affected farmers against further spread of the pests.

The Lusaka Permanent Secretary has also called on the famers to come on the board in the fight against the army worms if the crops are to be saved.

He implored farmers especially those under the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP)’s E-voucher platform to use it to redeem chemicals to supplement what government has dispatched to the affected areas.

In an interview with 𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗸𝗯𝘂𝘇𝘇 today, Mr. Kamanga has reaffirmed government’s commitment ensuring that the armyworms do not spread to other areas.

In a related development, the permanent Secretary said the provincial administration has put in place measures to cushion the impact of floods in the province especially Lusaka District.

He disclosed that his office through the Provincial Disaster Management Committee has engaged Parliamentarians and respective their Councillors to identify blocked drainages to prevent loss of lives and property.

Mr. Kamanga added that his office has also directed the Lusaka City Council (LCC) and Lusaka District Administration to ensure that all the drainages are unblocked.

He also advised Lusaka residents and business houses resisting relocation to pave way for the smooth implementation of the Lusaka City Decongestion Project to cooperate to avoid floods in the Capital City.

GOVERNMENT COMMITTED TO EMPOWERING VULNERABLE.

Government has reiterated its commitment to empowering vulnerable but viable farmers through an input grant to ensure household food security.

Kalumbila District Commissioner, Robinson Kalota said government is working tirelessly to ensure that it empowers vulnerable but viable farmers, especially female headed households through an input grant to ensure household food security.

Mr Kalota was speaking during a Food Security Pack (FSP) inputs handover ceremony in Kalumbila District.

”The Food Security Pack (FSP) is a social safety net programme targeting vulnerable but viable small scale farming households. The programme was initiated by government in November 2000 in order to assist farming households who had suffered the negative effects of reduced access to farm inputs and markets due to economic liberalization and erosion of resource base due to adverse weather”, said Mr Kalota.

Mr Kalota pointed out that the FSP which is hosted by the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services was introduced to Kalumbila District last year with the aim of reducing food insecurity at household level.

He said the programme targets households cultivating less than one hectare and belonging to female headed households, child headed households, the disabled, the aged, victims of natural disasters, unemployed youths, households headed by terminally ill-patients and institutions looking after orphans.

Mr Kalota said so far, 310 x 10 kilogramme bags of maize seed, 620 x 50 kilogramme bags of compound D fertilizer have already been delivered to the district while310 x 50 kilogramme bags of Urea, 310 x 10 kilogramme bags of beans and 310 x 10 kilogramme bags of groundnuts are yet to be delivered into district.

Meanwhile, Elizabeth Nkumba, a FSP beneficially, appreciated government for the job well done by distributing the inputs early.

GOVERNMENT CALLS FOR EMPOWERMENT OF WOMEN AND YOUTH.

Government is encouraging all women and youths in Northwestern province to enroll for training at skills institutions to enable them have meaningful employment.

Northwestern Province Permanent Secretary, Wi***es Mangimela said government has put in place deliberate policies that support persons and companies who are trained in skills by ensuring 20 percent subcontracting for all big projects is done by local contractors.

Mr Mangimela said government, through the Ministry of Community Development, has revised the training curriculum for all skills training centers in the country because it attaches great importance to training and skills development.

He said this in a speech read on his behalf by his Deputy, Douglas Ngimbu in Solwezi yesterday during the first graduation ceremony of over 100 students from community development skills training centre.

Mr Mangimela said the Ministry of Community Development endeavors to ensure that poverty is reduced among vulnerable but viable groups in the implementation of empowerment programmes.

Speaking at the same event Provincial Community Development Officer, Elma Siamuzwe has appealed to stakeholders to complement government efforts by providing material support to the skills centre so that more students in the province are educated.

Ms Siamuzwe said the skills centre is facing challenges with accommodation which has made it difficult for people from far places to enroll.

Meanwhile Chief Kapijimpanga has commended government for the continued support to the community by imparting knowledge and skills to the community members.

Chief Kapijimpanga, in a speech read on his behalf by sub chief Ng'ombe, urged the graduates to ensure that the knowledge and skills they have acquired be put in practice and not only wait for white collar jobs but work hard to be employers.

ZESCO TO CONSTRUCT $90 MILLION POWER-LINE IN NORTH WESTERN PROVINCE.

Zambia Electricity and Supply Corporation limited (ZESCO) will soon embark on the construction of a 330kV double circuit overhead line from Luano substation in Chingola to Kansanshi substation in Solwezi to increase power supply to North Western Province.

The proposed line is expected to cost about US 90 million dollars, traverse three districts from Chingola, passing through Mushindamo and Solwezi and run parallel to the existing Luano-Kansanshi covering a stretch of about 216 kilometres.

Speaking during a stakeholders consultative meeting for the proposed project in Mushindamo district yesterday, ZESCO Environmental Scientist, Chanda Kalasa said the power utility company will endeavor to achieve vision 2030 which seeks to have access to clean, reliable and affordable energy as outlined in the seventh national development plan.

Ms Kalasa added that the construction of the overhead line is one of the strategies to achieve this vision and to further expand the company’s infrastructure through additional power stations and power lines to meet the rising electricity demands in the country.

She said ZESCO will early next week begin conducting their environmental impact assessment test to establish the impact of establishing a power line in the named areas and come up with solutions to challenges that may be identified.

Meanwhile, stakeholders in Mushindamo have welcomed the move to construct another power line parallel to the existing Luano-Kansanshi line and to upgrade the two sub stations in order to address power challenges been faced in the region.

Mushindamo District Commissioner, Emmanuel Chihili who was present at the meeting said once actualized the project will impact positively on the lives of people in the district.

Mr Chihili said the construction of the additional power line which is expected to run for a period of two years will create employment for skilled, semi-skilled and non-skilled residents of Mushindamo.

He appealed to ZESCO to consider conducting mass sensitisation on the project so that local people are aware of what government is doing to serve people in all aspects of life.

Meanwhile, the district commissioner appealed to ZESCO to consider establishing a customer service centre to cater for the needs of the local people in the area.

Mr Chihili said residents of Mushindamo are disadvantaged as they move long distances to make enquiries on electricity services from ZESCO regional office in Solwezi whenever they are faced with power challenges, especially on connectivity to their homes, schools and business structures.

ZANIS reports that Mr Mushanga, has also on behalf of the people of central province thanked the First Lady for the donation.
The minister says the donation by the First Lady is a demonstration of how the first family cares for the people of Central Province.

PRESIDENT LUNGU TURNS TO SOLAR.

President Edgar Lungu has requested the African Development Bank (AfDB) to help Zambia develop Solar Energy as a reliable alternative energy source for the country.

President laments that Zambia has been hit hard by climate change resulting in low electricity generation that has affected economic activity and agriculture production.

ZANIS reports that President Lungu was speaking when AfDB President Akinwumo Adesina and other bank officials paid a courtesy call on him at State House in Lusaka today.

The Head of State said he is impressed that the largest solar power facility in Morocco was financed by the AfDB.

The President said Zambia is keen to have investment in alternative energy and has since made requisite revision to the energy policy.

He said the work of the AfDB fits well with Zambia's vision in responding to climate change and pursuing development as espoused in the Seventh National Development Plan (7NDP).

And Mr Adesina said AfDB is ready to help Zambia tackle the effects of climate change and remain on positive trajectory of economic growth.

He said the bank is developing the Desert to Power Solar energy that will generate over 10, 000 megawatts and benefit over 250 million people in Africa.

He said AfDB has a portfolio of US$1.1 billion for development projects in Zambia in agriculture, energy, transport and Finance.

Mr Adesina said AfDB is currently financing infrastructure projects that have regional benefits to the country.

He said US$700 million is available for the private sector to utilise for investment.

The AfDB President said he wants to help Zambia diversify its energy and agriculture sectors in light of the climate change effects.

Mr Adesina said there is need to invest in drought resistant crops such as cassava and urged government to consider adopting and implementing the AfDB Technology for Africa Advancement(TAA).
