So, what is life about?

I first asked myself this question on a hostel bed in Poland. My answer? “Holding in a fart until you stop caring who smells it.” Yup. Take it how you will.

For me, it’s about learning to be okay with yourself & accepting that it might not suit everyone else. Have I reached that point in my life? Absolutely not. I’m trying.

What I found when answering this question was that everything I had to say was somehow connected to an experience I’d had growing up. There was so much to unpack and that excited me. For the next few weeks, I couldn’t get my own answer out of my mind, all I did was think about farts. The actual impact of it was that almost every decision I made, often surrounded by people I didn’t know, in a new environment, I’d ask “Am I really being myself? Or just showing others what I think they want”. From there I’d either continue as me or drop the guard and become more me. It felt great.

So I decided to find out if it would have the same affect on others. Being a lover of conversation, I decided to start filming these chats with people, simply starting with the question and seeing where it went from there. What I found was that it opened up reflections neither of us could have predicted and left people feeling clearer on what was important to them.
