I just heard that John Mayall passed away on the 22nd at the great age of 90. The man that single handedly brought the blues to the UK.
No JM no Eric Clapton, no Jeff Beck to name but a few. The 60’s blues explosion was steered by John and we all owe him a thanks. And hope right now he’s jamming in the key of E with his hero’s OUR HEROS…..
Bless you John, here is the classic Beano album with Clapton. One of the greatest British blues albums ever.

i feel it is my civic duty to introduce XTC to my listeners. Yes it’s not brutal, heavy or aggressive. But it is beautifully made music that is at once a lyrical tour de force and some of the most intelligent studio production you are ever likely to get your ears around. Cultured, dynamic and layers so many layers.

Just a cheeky sneak into this weeks research, people don’t believe me when i say “someone has to do it” This time around i plumped for the Cd version because of the extra track that it comes with. Also and this is going to sound funny to a lot of you and some of you not so much. I really want to hold off from playing the vinyl till the time is just right. So it has come to my Attention there still tickets left for the greatest Iron Maiden tribute band on the planet Aces High - The Australian Maiden Show still left across the incredible Australian tour. Yes it is Maiden year here down under, but who would not like for as little as $40 get to see the tour we ALL missed due to Covid. And i am not kidding when i say this is band who not only love with passion their subject, but also are lavished with so much talent. Son Jfdi has a voice that will blow your mind. She completely transforms into Bruce but at the same time brings her big and wonderful personality through.

When one box set is just not enough thanks to great guys at Landspeed Records Canberra for getting it so soon after the release date.
Not that easy to do in Australia. Now if there was a Tape box set i would have to have that.
Something to think about Tony Martin.
I feel somehow a major hole in my collection has been filed now (insert snigger here).
The packaging is spot on the Cd lift smoothly and the card stock used on all the sets is such good quality. And to have the tour program again, as i lost mine many, many, moons ago is great. Would love an original tour shirt as i wore mine thin and it is lost to time also.

Thanks to Landspeed Records Canberra for helping me bring this back into my life. It’s been over 33 years since i owned a copy of Headless Cross. Tony Martin is my Sabbath and to me outside of Ozzy the best era by far.
17 year old Tony is crying right now. I had to have both sets as the CDs have extra tracks and i was not missing out on that.
Honestly go see Blake and Byron at the store no order is too much trouble. They are the beating heart of Canberra’s record collecting community. 😍

Next week it will 29 years ago that the legend that was Rory Gallagher died aged just 47. The world of music lost one its greatest guitarists and the blues died a little that day too.

So last night the headline act could come on due to illness, but man did we get a cracking night anyway. Shockwave and Bastadizer took on longer sets. And the the brilliant Night Demon stood up and destroyed it. The grooviest and headiest riffs you are likely to hear anywhere. F**k i love a three piece band and the young drummer was a beast on the kit.Just a bloody shame that on quite a nice night here in Canberra the metal community did not come out. I keep saying this but $50 is really not for most of us that much. The Baso Canberra did that best considering the main stage is being refurbished. Lori Gould

One more sleep to we get to see the legends that are Cirith Ungol supported by Night Demon. They are The Baso Canberra the Australian home of heavy metal, and my favourite place on the planet. They are on the smaller stage which has held some of the craziest nights i have had in years. So for 50 bucks on line or on the door do yourself a big one and get there if you can. This is there first and last tour of Australia. I never thought i’d get to see them live so it’s a big one for me.
Thanks to YOUR MATE Bookings again for just making this stuff happen. So to celebrate here is one track i bloody hope they play it’s brilliant in its simplicity and stunning in its originality.
And to think it’s 44 years old this year.

Revisiting A matter of life and death again for the first time in a very long time. I have gone on record as saying this period of Maiden is my least favourite. Not the tracks but the production is a little to harsh and suffers from that 2000’s plastic harsh production. But it really is Maiden after all so as i said any Maiden is good Maiden tbh
