NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- Beginning this week, the City of North Myrtle Beach will begin relocating the blue recycle cans that are on the beach to the beach access public parking lots. Currently, these recycle cans are in close proximity to the regular trash cans on the beach. Because of this, the public is not disposing of their trash properly. With trash not being disposed of properly, recycle cans are being contaminated. Once this occurs, Public Works cannot take the recycle cans to the Material Recovery Facility.

While we appreciate individuals cleaning up after themselves, we urge the public to dispose of their trash properly and pay attention to which container they are utilizing. Together, we can keep our beach and public areas beautiful for all to enjoy.

Friendly reminder - you may need to fix your squat.

"Squatted” vehicles include those with a front or rear fender raised four or more inches higher than the other. It is against the law to operate these vehicles on South Carolina roads (SC Code Section 56-5-4445).

On May 10, 2024, the warning period ends and SC law enforcement will begin issuing citations for vehicles found in violation of the new law. The first offense is a misdemeanor and will result in a $100 fine. On the third offense, violators will be fined $300 and lose their driving privileges for one year.

For more information on this and other SC traffic laws, visit: www.scdps.sc.gov/DrivinginSC
