Western Cape independence is possible.

However, the DA refuses to call a referendum, which is a necessary first step.

There is a completely legal process for us to follow to gain independence from South Africa. This process complies with the Constitution of South Africa, and if the people choose to become independent, the national government can do nothing to prevent it from happening.

What is stopping us, is the DA.

The Referendum Party (RP) is a single-issue political party established to force a referendum on Cape Independence.

Finally, Afrikaans is being reclaimed by its originators as Afrikaaps.

White Afrikaner nationalists stole the Afr language and created a version of it that suited their purposes.

We're restoring the true history of South Africa, not the white washed version we were told.

It’s been in existence since the 1500s but the Kaaps language, synonymous with Cape Town in South Africa, has never had a dictionary until now. The dictionary – in Kaaps, English and Afrikaans – holds the promise of being a powerful democratic resource.

11/01/2021

SASSA did not pay out disability grants in January, leaving thousands of people with no income for the month.

SASSA refused to allow people to apply for renewal of their grants in 2020 before their grants lapsed and so as a consequence, none of them received their monthly grant money in January.

Thousands of people have flocked to SASSA offices on Tuesday and Thursday in Rosmead Avenue, Wynberg with queues stretching down the road. No-one is allowed into the building. An official sits outside on the pavement at a small table taking down particulars, and handing out a Request for bank payment form.

Applicants are then told to go home and wait for the clinic to call them in for a medical assessment. After that they must return to SASSA with the completed form and 3 months of bank statements.

SASSA also told me that they are no longer paying into the SASSA cards, even the ones that were previously issued to grant recipients.

SASSA also has made no provision for people to apply online, which could easily be done. The form could be downloaded and printed out. This would have made it easier for people to apply, instead of demanding that people present themselves in person just to leave their details and get a form.

SASSA could not tell me how long a person would wait for medical assessment to take place. I am in contact with several people who promised to tell me how long their wait was, so hopefully I will hear from them in due course.

IN 2020, throughout the lockdown period, no new disability grant applications were accepted because SASSA did not believe that it was an essential service to continue.

SASSA has really thrown disability grant persons under the bus with no alternatives but to rely on friends and relatives to tide them over until their grants can be renewed. How long they will wait is anyone's guess at this point.

Disability rights advocacy groups and activists have slammed the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) for leaving the disabled community in the lurch.

So the PARENTS of the boys involved in this scandal have refused to allow their children to testify.

Is this not obstruction of justice?

This came to light because of a complaint and an allegation of s*xual abuse. There is therefore a duty and an obligation incurred to give full disclosure.

There is an obligation.

Anything else is cowardice.

These parents are nothing but the worst kind of cowards. They're not protecting their children.

Do not mock justice. Do not mock us.

All of the boys involved must give full disclosure so we can know the extent of the damage this woman did.

Otherwise she escapes punishment and is free to repeat.

At least one of you must present courage.

Otherwise Bishops is nothing but a school for the worst kind of cowards.

This is not worthy of any respect.

The SA Council for Educators has closed its file in its investigation against former Bishops Diocesan College teacher Fiona Viotti because the parents of pupils would not let them testify.

Would you like to learn a new language online in a very easy and engaging way?

Would it help if it was free with completely voluntary donations?

You will need speakers and a microphone to hear the language and speak it back.

Duolingo uses a intuitive flash card system, displaying symbols, for you to easily assimilate what you are seeing and hearing.

You learn by seeing, hearing, speaking, reading, writing. You select words, you type words, you hear words and sentence and read and type these back.

Learning a new language requires training the memory to retain vocabulary. Grammatical theory is presented in tips but is not the focus of the learning process.

I find it a very engaging way of learning. It is completely practical and the course is broken up into nodes with 5 levels of learning starting from easy to most difficult.

You can practise what you have learnt and you can inspect your growing vocabulary to remind yourself of all the words you have encountered.

Of all the language learning tools I've encountered, this one is the easiest, most engaging and most effective learning experience.

Learning becomes a fun experience. You can connect with other learners and there is a forum to discuss topics.

If you are thinking of travelling to a country whose language you do not know, have a look and see if duolingo can assist you to learn it before you go to enhance your travelling experience.

Learning is via their web site app or phone app - your choice.

03/11/2020

Elon Musk's SpaceX is beta testing a brand new satellite internet service provider via an array of low Earth orbit satellites. Although in beta, it is already delivering above expectations.

This is a gamer changer and shows how the whole world can be connected not by land based links, but by SPACE!

It could be possible, in the future, for people from all over the world to sign up to use the Starlink system to connect. A simple dish is used to connect you to the internet wherever coverage is available. Latency is much lower than high earth orbit satellites, typically under 40ms, which is very fast.

To put that figure into perspective, when I link to international game servers, latency is at 200ms. If I were using Starlink, my latency would be 5x lower.

This new Space network is truly a game changer already even in beta. And the beauty is that it offers competition for local ISPs who can no longer hold us to ransom by virtue of geography.

"It feels like it's from the future... I am amazed at how well it works."

03/11/2020

Mmusi Maimane, former DA leader, is going to run a pilot of a basic income grant of R1200 pm in a rural town to be chosen.

The idea is that a basic income grant will (eventually) be given to all South Africans aged 18 - 59 who apply for it. It will not be means tested and will top up existing income.

This would be funded by taxing all businesses making over R50 million per year with 10% of after-tax revenue.

Personally, I feel this should be funded by a once off capital investment at birth of a sum to be decided. This would then grow via compound interest or other investment vehicles over a period of 18 years, after which a monthly income should begin to begin to be paid out from interest or profit on investment earned. It would thus be self funding after one initial lump sum investment by a public fund.

Funding this out of current income is less reliable in my view and subject to economic cycles. When businesses earn less, they will contribute less, but an investment account could pay out more reliably over its period and serve as a retirement fund as well as a basic income grant. So long as what is paid out is less than what is earned, the fund will continue to grow and pay out an ever increasing monthly dividend.

Former leader of the Democratic Alliance (DA) and Chief Activist of the One South Africa Movement (OSA) Mmusi Maimane, in partnership with former DA Member of Parliament (MP) and founder of Rightful Share: An income movement Karen Jooste unveiled their plan to pilot a basic income grant in South Afr...

Oxford university in the UK has developed a vaccine for COVID-19 that works well.

It's not sure when this vaccine will become available to the public though, because it is still being tested, but preliminary results are very favourable and show it does exactly what is required.

A strong immunity is developed within the body which fights off the disease.

For more information, read the linked article.

Now researchers at the University of Bristol have found the vaccine delivers the instructions for the Covid protein, which cells copy thousands of times to produce it in large amounts.

If you suffer from a medical condition and you wish to find better treatments for your condition, I recommend you join this online community.

Although medical professionals tell us not to use the internet to seek health care, in fact, I personally was able to find a very effective treatment for a chronic condition I have that was not being well managed by my doctors. Even several hospitalisations did not help. But I did manage to find an online report about a study conducted to treat my condition which yielded favourable results. I asked my doctor to prescribe the treatment and I have benefited greatly.

It is possible to find effective medical treatments online. And don't let the young interns at hospitals try to make you think different.

SASSA has created an online portal so that people can apply online for social grants.

Finally, some progress!

All supporting documentation can now be submitted in electronic format. Last year when I was involved in assisting someone, a SASSA branch declined to accept documents in electronic format and insisted that everything be printed out.

It's actually unforgivable that in 2020, the paperless doctrine has not been fully adopted by ALL government departments including the courts. The courts still insist that everything be printed out.

If a court docket is in electronic format with multiple redundant cloud backups, it's much more difficult for it to be misplaced or stolen than a physical document.

The SASSA portal is at https://services.sassa.gov.za/

It is currently in pilot phase until September 25.

It's now much easier to assist someone to apply because all you have to do is register, then apply for what you want and attach supporting documents.

Documents which are in physical format can be scanned or photographed. The Microsoft Office app provides a Scan to PDF feature which I have found very useful.

You will need an email and cell phone number to make use of this online service.

09/09/2020

Here at Cape Town news, we received our router plus 1TB SIM card today.

The Huawei 4G Router 3 Pro (B535-932) is very easy to setup. It has an app that is downloaded direct from a Huawei domain since Google's Play Store no longer distributes Huawei apps.

The AI Life app automatically detects the Huawei router and allows you to log into its admin interface on your smartphone. You can then configure it as you please.

There is also a web interface for administration of the router which has features the App does not have and vice versa.

The router has screw on mount points for two external antennae if you need it for a stronger signal. Out of the box, using only the internal antenna, I got a signal strength of 4 out of 5 which is good enough.

The included SIM card was active very soon after delivery. The router accepts it in an easily accessible underneath slot in micro size.

You can connect to the router via 5Ghz or 2.4Ghz Wifi or via Ethernet cable.

The App has a very nice optimise feature which allowed me to optimise my WiFi setup.

You can very easily label each device which connects to the router so you can see at a glance who and what is attached. Anything new or out of the ordinary would be easy to spot, which helps to spot intruders.

Blocking an intruder can be done via a MAC address blocklist.

The App shows your upload and download speeds. You can let it know what your data quota is and set it up to warn you when you hit a user defined threshold such as 50% data usage.

Altogether a very tight and neat package that yields a rock solid connection to the Internet for multiple devices via Telkom LTE.

If your area is covered, this is much better than a 10Mbps DSL link, but obviously not as fast as a fiber link.

Telkom's 1TB offer costs R999 per month or R1069 x 24 months if you want the Huawei router, which I can heartily recommend.

This is a really awesome LTE router which will give you up to 150Mbps, depending on your quality of connection.

Telkom’s 1TB LTE service has no fair use policy and is available on month-to-month without any contract.

The Age of AI on Frontline, PBS

The focus of this extraordinary documentary is on China which has stated that it will dominate the globe in AI tech by 2030.

And despite all the dirty tricks the US government may try to forestall this, I believe there is nothing the US can ultimately do to prevent this from happening.

China has one major advantage that the US does not have - billions of people, which are essential to the world of AI, because AI feeds off enormous data sets. Each person's activity teaches an AI how to better recognise patterns, the more data you have, the more the AI can learn.

China is thus uniquely positioned to becoming the world leader in AI with its huge population and its many intelligent and innovative people.

China is already using facial recognition in lieu of credit cards. In an AI world, where software can determine who you are by your face, the need for a credit card becomes redundant - they can simply point a camera at your face and know who to bill.

This full length film of nearly two hours long will give you a glimpse into a future that is rapidly approaching the world.

Have a watch, and see our future.

A documentary exploring how artificial intelligence is changing life as we know it — from jobs to privacy to a growing rivalry between the U.S. and China. FR...

31/08/2020

So this is honestly BLOODY ANNOYING!

For over a month now, we've all been warned of the GREAT DSL SHUTDOWN coming end of August, and now right at the 11th hour, quite literally, a story appears on MyBroadBand a few hours before midnight on August 31 informing us that OpenServe is giving us an additional 3 months until 1 December to get switched over to fiber.

HOW UTTERLY RIDICULOUS that we only get informed at the last possible moment.

I already cancelled my WebAfrica DSL during July because they wanted a calendar month's notice.

I'm not re-enabling with WebAfrica either because their DSL service has been utterly s**te during August - more down than up. For the past 2 days, I may have had a working DSL for a few hours, but blink and you've missed it!

Even when I'm logged in and connected and have Internet, according to Windows, it won't load a damned thing. No data either up or down. What's the bloody good of that!???

So, I'm going to give Axxess a chance to give me a decent DSL service and I'll ask them to install my fiber too.

I just can't be bothered to give a bunch of clowns me business.

Hope this helps you. Stick with the winners, mate! 🧐

Openserve has postponed its planned termination of DSL and copper-based services in areas covered by its fibre network.

31/08/2020

"both the Western Cape Government and City of Cape Town failed to comply with their constitutional and legislative obligations to address apartheid spatial planning in Cape Town."

This is how the Democratic Alliance fails us.

I have already concluded that the DA is not a valid, reasonable or rational alternative to an ANC government.

Of course, it is clear that the ANC must voetsek!

But the idea that the DA will do better by the people is a myth. The DA will do better by the wealthy. It will do all in its power to uplift people of means and to HELL WITH THE REST OF US!

The DA has made no commitment to social housing, and when presented with opportunities to do so, prefers NOT TO DO SO!

Throughout this period of pandemic and this cold bitter winter, the DA has continued to defy the courts and the Constitution of South Africa by evicting people without a court order.

The DA also created a concentration camp for the homeless and in brazen defiance of the Constitution, refused to allow the SAHRC to monitor the camp.

The DA has no respect for the laws of this land, when it comes to poor people.

As an alternative, I suggest that people consider switching their political allegiance to the Cape Party which seeks to secede the Western Cape and parts of the Nothern Cape, Eastern Cape and Free state from the Republic and create a new country with self government.

The most important and urgent thing to do is provide affordable housing for all. We cannot afford to allow poverty to be the lot of so many. We have to engage in programs of social upliftment for all in need.

I believe in creating an investment based Universal Basic Income program which would invest a lump sum at birth for each citizen and begin paying out once the person reached 25 years of age.

For those alive now, we will have to have an alternative program which funds UBI out of current expenditure.

I propose a minimum initial UBI of R6000 per month per adult over 25 and under 60.

I also propose that social housing be made available to those who cannot afford "market related" prices and sets rental at a maximum of 20% of monthly income. For those receiving only the UBI, the rental should be zero.

I would also completely decriminalise all prohibited drugs. I acknowledge and recognise that addiction is a health and social problem, not a criminal justice issue.

As a society, we must protect ourselves from those who are violent, murderers, thieves, rapists and those who destroy what we have built and are building. We do not need to protect ourselves against those who currently perpetrate "victimless crimes".

We need to build a society that cares for everyone, not just the wealthy.

The sale of the old Tafelberg School site in Sea Point has been reviewed and set aside.
