Born and raised in North Battleford, Saskatchewan, Canada, he holds degrees from  the University of Saskatchewan,  the University of Manitoba, and Arizona State University. He has been on faculty at ASU since 2015. Today’s episode features Norman Huynh, Music Director at the Bozeman Symphony, and Associate Conductor of the Oregon Symphony. In this episode we discuss Norman’s journey in music, which started as a 12-year old “band geek” trombonist in Alabama and eventually lead him to study with Demondrae Thurman, John Ratledge, Adrian Gnam, Gustav Meier, Markand Thakar, and Marin Alsop. We also discuss his participation in the Malko Competition and what it was like to return to the stage earlier this year.

And we’re back! Welcome to Season 2 of Ic2us! You’re not going to want to miss this! Today’s episode features Grammy-nominated conductor James Jordan. Dr. Jordan is recognized and praised throughout the musical world as one of America’s pre-eminent conductors, recording artists, writers, music psychologists and innovators in choral music. He was described as a “visionary” by Choral Journal, which cited his book Evoking Sound as a “must read.” His more than 40 books explore both the philosophical and spiritual basis of musicianship, as well as aspects of choral rehearsal teaching and learning, and they are considered to be essential references in the conducting profession. He is professor and senior conductor at Westminster Choir College where he conducts Westminster Schola Cantorum and the critically acclaimed Westminster Williamson Voices. He is also director of the Westminster Conducting Institute and co-director of the Choral Institute at Oxford. (rider.edu/Oxford) He is artistic director and conductor of the professional choral ensemble, The Same Stream (thesamestreamchoir.com)

Dr. Bovin has been a prominent music educator for over a decade, teaching bands at the secondary and collegiate levels, presenting at conferences and workshops across the country, conducting ensembles around the globe, and completing research on the topics of music literacy using technology and gendered experiences in music education. She also serves as the President of Connecticut Music Educators Association and the Connecticut Representative for Women Band Directors International. Dr. Ambrose has served as the Director of Bands at Georgia State University for twenty years.
