Aaron James

From his genre-defying, electronic creations as ‘XMPLA’ and now diving deeper into the industry with a more stripped-down hip-hop production as himself, Sydney artist Aaron James’ versatile, multi-charactered, and nuanced vocals is truly what sets him apart from his contemporaries in the underground rap/hip-hop scene.

After the release of ‘Romeo & Juliet’ in March 2020, Aaron is back again with another vocally-driven track, ‘Clouds Like’, available on all streaming platforms on August 8th. Produced by Aaron himself, this trippy and groovy beat sublimely blends his array of transphonic vocals, with spacey bass background and hazy atmospheric melody—giving its listeners a momentary illusion of bouncing up in the clouds. He will be back for more in September with a follow-up single ‘They Don’t Know’.

Back in 2017, he burst onto the scene when he won the Studios 301 electronic music competition, ‘Is It A Banger?’ and finished as runner-up in Australia’s revolutionary DJ tilt, YourShot DJ Competition. As ‘XMPLA’, he was also previously featured in OZ EDM, Amnplify, Black Hearts, and triple j.

Aaron uses his platform to speak closely to his fans a message of love, truth, and his own internal struggle. With his music, he seeks to break the mould, and hopefully help others to do the same. Aaron is set to build a discography for the rest of the year, so stay tuned!
