Vitamin C!!! :) Do you supplement with it? I certainly do!

This antioxidant has been a main-stay in most of our homes through the years and there is so much research STILL going on that shows how much of a power-house this nutrient is and why you should be supplementing with it!

Vita C is now being studied as a tool to help protect against neurodegerative disease, including Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. It helps improve glucose control, boosts serotonin, norepinephrine, glutamate, acetylcholine and endomorphins (pain relieving peptides). Adequate blood levels of vita C help immediate and delayed memory recall, improves attention, focus and recognition. It helps reduce surgery complications. It's an anti-inflammatory, been shown to be protective of telomeres, increases iron absorption and powerhouses the gut and immune function!

So how much do you need to take and what's the best kind? Well, everyone is very different, so you need to find the dose that's best for you. Most experts agree that 1000mg (or 1 gram) is a great place to be, for some it should be even higher. But you do have to build your tolerance level to vita C by starting slowly, if you're not use to supplementing with it.

Studies show that potassium, calcium or zinc ascorbic acids are the most absorbable and most powerful. Being that it's water soluble, it can be taken on an empty stomach. Foods are a fantastic way to get more into your system, but to get that high of a dosage, you would have to eat a whole lot of food!

Do check for and avoid products with unnecessary fillers. The label should clearly tell you exactly what form of vita C it is and should be full disclosure. I like to research my manufacturers and know that they test and are 3rd party verified!

**Remember, what you put in/on your body matters to your healthspan!

I so love the study of epigenome! The very fact that the genes we were born with are NOT a life sentence is HUGE! Every single day, whether we realize it or not, we change the blueprint to our cells, WE can and do affect our health by our thoughts, our perception, our food choices and environment...but PERCEPTION seems to be key!

Many people think that fatigue, weight gain, high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, etc is just a part of getting older. But I am here to let you know that it's simply not true!

I believe in individualized functional, lifestyle plans that help bring about that healthy glow, vitality, balance, better sleep, a happy gut and an overall improved healthspan!

It's time we begin talking about Healthspan! Current research is showing us that our miraculous body has the capability of living a healthy life, full of energy...with a very short decline at the end. Too many are living the opposite, feeling depleted, sick, and fatigued for years or even decades in the second half of their life.

So how do we change it? I'll be dropping some gold nuggets in the days and weeks to come, but for now, begin looking at your own life and decide WHERE you are in your Healthspan and HOW you want to live out your Lifespan.
