Nicki Minaj answered some fan questions on Twitter, particularly if she would ever jump into the studio to collaborate with Taylor Swift. The answer was, obviously, yes, as Minaj didn’t hesitate to shower Swift with praise.

She responded that she would love to work with her “in a heartbeat.”

In a heart beat

“The QUEEN TAYLOR DESERVES!!!! PERIOD!!!!!” Minaj wrote in a separate tweet. “She takes months & years off then comes back with great music & fans who’ll never leave her!!!!”

— Nicki Minaj () December 20, 2023

“The point is that we have something to aspire to as we watch the SAG QUEEN Taylor & the swifties & Republic Records,” she added, as she also discussed her own vinyl sales.

This is a CELEBRATION!!!!!

I’m about to thank each & every artist on this album.

But!!!!

The point is that we have something to aspire to as we watch the SAG QUEEN Taylor & the swifties & Republic Records.

Any more questions on this?

Who’d like to get cussed TF out?

— Nicki Minaj () December 20, 2023

Except for a brief 2015 feud, Swift and Minaj have been longtime friends. When the rapper dropped her song “Super Bass” years ago, as she was just getting started, Swift gave it a boost in listeners by promoting it.

A few months ago, fans had speculated if the two were actually working on music together for Swift’s 1989 (Taylor’s Version). The theories started after Swift included the word “Sagittarius” in her puzzle on Google, which was tied to the album. Considering the two both share the same star sign, it seemed like a possibility.

“That’s my favorite Sagittarius over there,” Swift also described about Minaj at this year’s Video Music Awards.

Check out Minaj’s recent tweets about her love for Swift above.

YouTube released its list of the most-viewed artists for 2023, and Peso Pluma took this year’s top spot. The musician gained over 8.5 billion views on his music videos across the globe.

“I feel humble and grateful that my music has made it to the top spot on YouTube,” Peso Pluma told The Hollywood Reporter. “A huge thank you to my musicians and team, my fans, everyone at YouTube and all the people who have made this project possible.”

Two of his songs, “Ella Baila Sola” (feat. Eslabón Armado) and “La Bebe (Remix)” (feat. Yng Lvcas), placed in third and fourth on YouTube’s Top 10 Songs in the US for 2023 as well.

According to the publication, “Ella Baila Sola” got a significant boost through TikTok. It broke a ton of records, too. Peso Pluma’s hit became the first regional Mexican song to make it in the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 4 on the chart. It also spent 19 weeks on the Hot Latin Songs Chart and is certified 21x Platinum — amounting to 1.26 million in units.

As for the other artists rounding out YouTube’s most-viewed list this year, YoungBoy Never Broke Again, Drake, Bad Bunny, and Taylor Swift were the rest of the Top 5.

Pink Friday 2 debuted at No. 1 on this week’s Billboard 200, so Nicki Minaj has an excuse to rest, but that is not the Nicki Minaj that Barbz have come to know and love.

On Wednesday, December 20, Minaj casually tossed out that perhaps Rihanna should “send her vocals” for “the full” Pink Friday 2 (Gag City Deluxe), and then she starred on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert later that night. Minaj explained the meaning of Gag City to a very confused Colbert before he encouraged her to freestyle.

“Honestly, y’all, I only had two seconds to make this up, so it’s only two lines,” Minaj told the in-studio audience. “But there’s a song on my called ‘F The Club Up’ [‘FTCU‘], and instead, I changed it to ‘F The Colbert Up,’ right? And so, the first the two lines, I changed it for him in Gag City, when he arrives. It goes, ‘High heels on for Stevie / If I marry Stevie, he ain’t ever gon’ leave me.”

Minaj repeated the bar, but this time, she challenged him to tack his own bars to “end the rap” with “the first thing that pops into your mind that rhymes.” Colbert jumped in with, “High heels or not, Nicki / You better hope you never meet my wife, Evie.”

Minaj’s mouth dropped in shock at Colbert’s mic drop, and I agree: The round goes to Colbert.

Elsewhere during Minaj’s visit, she excitedly looked forward to her 2024 Pink Friday 2 World Tour and shared how her three-year-old son, Papa Bear, “runs everything.”

21 Savage dropped off Her Loss with Drake towards the end of 2022, but in terms of solo albums, he hasn’t actually released one since I Am > I Was in 2018. Now there’s an indication that this could change soon, though.

Is 21 Savage releasing a new album in 2024?

Yesterday (December 21), people in Atlanta started noticing billboards popping up around the city, which feature a modified version of the American flag. Instead of red and white, the stripes are red, black, and blue. The blue and red stripes are covered in images related to 21 Savage. Meanwhile, the blue rectangular section with white stars now has a black background and only 21 stars, arranged in a hexagon. Andrew Barber of Fake Shore Drive notes the campaign was designed by visual artist Hebru Brantley.

A closer look at the campaign…

pic.twitter.com/D9y0ExD37D

— Andrew Barber () December 21, 2023

Naturally, this has some thinking this means 21 Savage has a new album dropping in 2024. Worth noting is that Brantley retweeted a tweet about the billboards that reads, “American flags with images of 21 Savage and 21 stars have been spotted on billboards in Atlanta [American flag emoji]. New 21 Savage music on the way? [eyes emoji].”

21 Savage himself has yet to post anything online about the billboards. At a show in the UK earlier this month, though, he told the audience, “London, I love y’all. I hope this ain’t my last time seeing y’all. And my album finna drop, so y’all get ready.”

So, while nothing has been confirmed yet in terms of concrete news about a new album, it looks like Savage fans can expect it soon.

Drake fans who live in Europe might have a blast next year. After the Canadian rapper was playing shows around North America on his joint It’s All A Blur Tour with 21 Savage, there had been questions about where he would head next. Now, Drake has responded to the possibility of bringing the show across the sea.

Will Drake Tour Europe In 2024?

Drake recently held a livestream on Stake (via Complex), where he fielded fan questions. One of these was whether he’d be touring Europe in the next year. “I’m definitely going on a Europe tour next year,” he said. As for potential cities, he is eyeing Italy, Albania, and even Tokyo, according to the publication. So, there might even be an eventual few stops in Asia.

However, it might not be right away. “We obviously have a tour coming up [in] January,” Drake pointed out. Next month, he returns to the tour with J. Cole joining him instead, as he continues playing shows on the North American leg. Drake also has his new Scary Hours 3 album out, giving him new selections to toss into the setlist.

For those interested in going to one of the upcoming US or Canadian shows, a complete list of dates and information about how to purchase tickets can be found here.

T-Pain had a nice 2023, headlined by his new covers album, On Top Of The Covers. Now his 2024 is starting to take shape: Resorts World and Zouk Group announced yesterday (December 19) that T-Pain will headline a new residency at Zouk Nightclub and Ayu Dayclub.

Based on the dates announced so far, it appears T-Pain’s appearances will be relatively infrequent and spread out, at least compared so some other Vegas residencies: He currently has one show each scheduled for February, April, May, and July.

T-Pain said in a statement (as KSNV News 3 Las Vegas notes), “2024 is going to be a great year. I’ve been fortunate to have an amazing career and I’ve always dreamed of having a residency of my own. I’ve got some special surprises up my sleeve, so Vegas: let’s turn up!”

Joe Lopez, vice president of Zouk Group Las Vegas, also noted, “We are excited to start the year on such a high note by bringing an artist of T-Pain’s caliber to our venues.”

T-Pain shared an announcement video as well:

Rihanna had one of the year’s most iconic pop culture moments with her Super Bowl Halftime Show performance in February. That was both because of the performance itself, and because Rihanna took the stage and revealed she was pregnant. It turns out that wasn’t initially part of the plan, though: Her baby bump just got too big and she couldn’t hide it anymore.

On the red carpet of her new Puma launch on Monday (December 18), Access Hollywood’s Scott Evans asked Rihanna about her halftime look and she explained, “Here’s the thing: I did what I had to do, right? My jumper couldn’t zip up [laughs]. No one knew I was pregnant, I just told my stylist, ‘Make sure it’s stretchy.’ So the under-arm was stretchy and this was baggy, but you know, the zip, it just stopped right there, so it had to be what it had to be!”

Rihanna gave birth to the baby, her and ASAP Rocky’s second, a few months later, in August. The birth certificate surfaced in September, and the document revealed that Rihanna and Rocky named the baby Riot Rose Mayers, and that Riot was born on August 1 at 7:41 a.m. in Los Angeles’ Cedar Sinai Hospital.

The 2024 music festival season is on track to revival this year. So far, Lollapalooza has announced their international installments (Chile, Brasil, India, and Argentina) of the event. Domestically, Bonnaroo, Solid Sound, Stagecoach, Sol Blume, and Dreamville Fest have already begun to roll their lineups. Now, all eyes are on the holdout like Governors Ball.

Who is headlining Governors Ball 2024?

As of today (December 19), organizers for the multi-day festival have not announced the lineup. Fans eager to iron out their plans for summer 2024 have been speculating who could appear. For the 2023 festivities, the headliners included Lizzo, Odesza, and Kendrick Lamar. These entertainers had released a new project at the time or were reentering mainstream popularity.

Keeping that in mind, festivalgoers are sharing their dream lineup online, which lists Peso Pluma, SZA, Nicki Minaj, and Travis Scott as potential headliners. Unfortunately, it will be a while until the official lineup for Governors Ball 2024 is made public. For now, supporters are just going to have to sit patient.

If this year’s festival could stand up despite the Canadian wildfire smoke aftermath, next year should be no problem.

NYC’s annual music festival, Governors Ball, will be returning during the summer of 2024. Typically held at Flushing Meadows Corona Park now, attendees who are interested in going might want to know exactly who is playing before buying tickets — or making the trek from another state.

Here’s what to know.

When Will The Governors Ball 2024 Lineup Come Out?

While it’s currently the holiday season, it also means that the release of the Gov Ball lineup is right around the corner. In both 2022 and 2023, the music festival unveiled it at some point in January, building anticipation and giving guests a few months to prepare.

So, right now, it is still unknown who exactly will be taking the festival stages. That hasn’t stopped speculation on Reddit, however, as users are trying to sleuth some of the lineup by using the radius clause — meaning who doesn’t have an NYC-based show.

Claire Rosinkranz is allegedly confirmed, as one user pointed out she has a Governors Ball Presents show that summer. Other potential acts include Bleachers, Chappell Roan, Tyla, Teezo Touchdown, Idles, Greta Van Fleet, and Inzo.

Others in the comments have also been hoping for Lorde, Jpegmafia, The Killers, and more. Red Hot Chili Peppers are also listed, but as an unlikely possibility — just not completely ruled out. To reiterate, though, this is all fan speculation.

Those wanting more information about Gov Ball 2024 can sign up on their website.

Drake hosted a Kick.com livestream this past weekend (the one during which he got a hefty $0.20 tip from a viewer), and some think one moment from the broadcast was directed at Metro Boomin.

At one point, Drake said, “And to the rest of you… to the rest of you, the non-believers, the underachievers, the tweet-and-deleters, you guys make me sick to my stomach, fam. Honestly. If you guys… look in my eyes: You guys want to do something? You guys…? That’s what I thought. That’s what I thought. Mmhmm.”

— NFR Podcast () December 18, 2023

Many saw this as a reference to a Metro Boomin tweet that he later deleted, which read, “yet [Drake and 21 Savage’s Her Loss] still keeps winning rap album of the year over [Metro Boomin’s Heroes & Villains]. proof that award shows are just politics and not for me. Idc about awards honestly, the true award and REWARD is knowing that the music I spend so much time on brings joy to peoples everyday lives.”

Did Metro Boomin respondo Drake’s alleged diss?

A Metro tweet from after Drake’s livestream is being interpreted by some as a response. He simply shared a 9-second clip from a popular RDCworld1 YouTube video called “BLACK SITCOM THEMES VS WHITE SITCOM THEMES,” in which a group of men laughingly tell another one off-camera to calm down and put his gun down.

This is the time of year when most artists starting winding down, taking the final days of the year off before looking forward to January and beyond. The Weeknd fans got a dose of excitement yesterday (December 18), though, when a new song popped up on The Weeknd’s Spotify artist page.

Is The Weeknd’s “Trust Issues” on streaming services?

Yesterday, “Trust Issues” made it onto Spotify, as HotNewHipHop notes. It’s a track fans know well, as it originally surfaced online back in 2011. The song is The Weeknd’s take on Drake’s “Trust Issues,” but with modified lyrics, so it’s sort of a cover and sort of a remix (the original upload was titled “Trust Issues (Remix).”

As soon as the song hit Spotify, some fans knew something was amiss. One listener who checked out the song’s credits tweeted, “This will be gone very fast, it looks like someone did that and it’s not approved by himself or the Label. – Label is called weeknd – No writer and producer – It would be called Trust Issues (Remix) – It would be out on other platforms.”

Indeed, it turns out the upload was not legitimate: The Weeknd retweeted a tweet that reads, “‘Trust Issues’ is NOT an official release! The Weeknd’s Spotify account was hacked and the hacker released the song ‘Trust Issues’.”

The song is no longer available on Spotify, or any other streaming platform in an official capacity, as of this post.

Keeping up with new music can be exhausting, even impossible. From the weekly album releases to standalone singles dropping on a daily basis, the amount of music is so vast it’s easy for something to slip through the cracks. Even following along with the Uproxx recommendations on a daily basis can be a lot to ask, so every Monday we’re offering up this rundown of the best new music this week.

This week saw Reneé Rapp score a major collaboration and Beyoncé surprise with a classic fan favorite. Yeah, it was a great week for new music. Check out the highlights below.

For more music recommendations, check out our Listen To This section, as well as our Indie Mixtape and Pop Life newsletters.

Reneé Rapp and Megan Thee Stallion — “Not My Fault”

Rapp is set to lead the upcoming Mean Girls remake as Regina George, but she’s also quite the musician, having released her successful debut album, Snow Angel, earlier this year (and she’ll be the first SNL musical guest of 2024). So, she’s a natural fit to contribute a song to the movie soundtrack, and she did by teaming up with Megan Thee Stallion on “Not My Fault,” a groovy and sugar-sweet pop tune that gets an added edge from Meg’s verse.

Lil Baby — “Crazy”

Lil Baby hit a snag towards the end of the year when there was a shooting at one of his tour dates, but he ended his year on a higher note last week by dropping a pair of new songs, “Crazy” and “350.” Uproxx’s Flisadam Pointer notes of the former, “Baby takes out his frustrations on the beat, showing that he’s a fighter who won’t give up his spot in the game.”

Nicki Minaj — “Beep Beep” Feat. 50 Cent

Minaj dominated a couple weeks ago with Pink Friday 2 (which ended up debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart), and she let the fun spill over into last week with some bonus tracks. Among those was a link-up with fellow hip-hop veteran 50 Cent, who contributed to a revamped version of “Beep Beep.”

Beyoncé — “Grown Woman”

“Grown Woman” was a Beyoncé-era fan favorite that didn’t actually make it onto the album, but a decade later, the song has finally hit streaming services. This caps off a year in which Beyoncé fans ate, whether it was by seeing her on her massive Renaissance tour or by catching the tour movie in theaters.

Gucci Mane and B.G. — “Guwop & Gizzle”

Gucci Mane and B.G. came through with a holiday surprise, announcing the joint album Choppers & Bricks last week and releasing it the very next day. This is a big one for B.G. fans since it’s his first full length release since 2009, as he spent 11 years in prison before getting released earlier this year.

Lil Dicky — “Mr. McAdams”

Lil Dicky produced one of 2023’s most entertaining seasons of television with Dave, a highlight of which was the multi-episode arc in which Dicky developed a bond with Rachel McAdams. There was even a song, “Mr. McAdams,” and now the full version of that track is available on streaming platforms.

Playboi Carti — “2024”

Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign’s album Vultures didn’t end up dropping as expected last week, but some new Kanye still made it out into the world: Playboi Carti’s “2024,” co-produced by West, is a jubilant number that looks forward to what next year has to offer.

Bas — “Home Alone” Feat. J. Cole

Bas just rounded out the year for Dreamville with his latest album, We Only Talk About Real S**t When We’re F*cked Up. He’s long had a supporter and collaborator in J. Cole, and the two have linked up once again on “Home Alone.” It’s a perfect time for this one to drop, too, with its lyrics referencing the classic Christmas movie Home Alone.

Luh Tyler — “The Grinch Freestyle” Feat. Latto

Speaking of holiday-inspired tunes, Luh Tyler and Latto prefaced Christmas with “The Grinch Freestyle,” which sees the two rappers in a back-and-forth, accusing each other of Whoville-hating behavior.

Karol G — “Que Chimba De Vida”

Karol G had a big 2023 with her album Mañana Será Bonito and follow-up mixtape Mañana Será Bonito (Bichota Season), and she was feeling reflective with her final song of the year last week, “Que Chimba De Vida.” She wrote on Instagram, “Last song of the year … 2023 taught me more than any other year that everything I lived, witnessed, and experienced over the years, let me say today QUE CHIMBA DE VIDA [WHAT A GREAT LIFE]! With all the ups and downs. G R A C I A S !”

Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign were supposed to have the headlining music release of last week with Vultures. Perhaps unsurprisingly to anybody who knows about West’s history of not meeting deadlines, though, the album did not end up getting released on time and has yet to be unveiled. Now, it appears West and Ty have another new release date lined up.

The album’s page on Apple Music currently lists a release date of December 31. Furthermore, a West rep reportedly confirmed that release date, along with another “rave” listening event in Saudi Arabia.

Of course, it wouldn’t hurt to take an announced release date for a West project with a grain of salt, since deadlines have historically been more like suggestions than something he feels obligated to honor.

As for why the project was delayed, it could be a matter of it’s just not finished yet, or there are still some elements of it to work out. For example, shortly before its expected release last Friday (minutes before, in fact), West took to social media to reach out to Nicki Minaj, in an effort to get her to approve her verse on “New Body” for the album, a request she ultimately denied.

Drake has been very successful for long time, and thus, he’s got a few bucks laying around; His net worth has been estimated at around $250 million, and while estimates like these can often be unreliable, that’s doesn’t feel like a surprising number. The point is that Drake probably doesn’t need anybody gifting him more money, but one fan did just that… but not that much.

Last night (December 17), Drake hosted a Kick.com livestream, and at one point during the broadcast, somebody made a donation… of 20 cents. Drake was talking about something unrelated, then after taking a look at his screen, he shifted, saying, “Thank you for the 20-cent tip, [donator’s username], appreciate that. That’ll go to a good cause.”

Someone tipped Drake $0.20 during his stream. pic.twitter.com/uepZIGml0F

— XXL Magazine () December 18, 2023

Spotify reportedly pays about 0.3 cents per stream, so in essence, the viewer donated what Drake would earn from 67 streams, so about three full-album plays.

Elsewhere during the show, Drake’s co-host asked about his New Year’s resolution, and Drake said, “Travel more for the purpose of enjoyment.” The co-host implored Drake to visit Europe and he replied with a bit of breaking news: “I will. I think I’m going to go on tour in Europe, but again, that’s for work.” He also rattled off some vacation destinations on his radar: “I’ve never been to so many places. I’ve never been to Italy, never been to Tokyo, never been to Albania.”

Nicki Minaj has found yet another accomplishment to add to her extensive career. Pink Friday 2, her latest, debuted at No. 1 on the music charts, both a significant moment for Nicki as well as a milestone for women in rap music.

With three chart-topping albums, including 2011’s Pink Friday, 2012’s Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, and Pink Friday 2, Nicki leads the pack for women with the most No. 1 rap albums. As for the metrics, Billboard clarified the total streams, pure sales, and vinyl purchases that pushed Pink Friday 2 atop the Billboard 200 chart.

According to Luminate, the first-week numbers (ending on December 14) for the album was 228,000 equivalent album units domestically. Based on this data, this marks the largest sales week for a rap album by a woman this year as well as this decade.

The streaming equivalent album units comprise 129,000 (or 169.87 million on-demand official streams). Total sales are 92,000, and the track equivalent album units are 7,000. Pink Friday 2 vinyl sales are credited at 25,000 copies, the largest week for a rap album by a woman since Luminate began electronically tracking sales in 1991.

Wwith Pink Friday 2, counted as Nicki’s third No. 1 album, she has overthrown Foxy Brown, whom she previously tied with at two chart-topping albums.

FOX

The Kansas City Chiefs have been struggling offensively of late, at least relative to the sky-high expectations they’ve set for themselves with Patrick Mahomes under center.

This year, the Chiefs have had a middling offense and have struggled to both sustain and finish drives in the way we’re accustomed to seeing, largely because of an inconsistent passing attack. Drops have been a big issue for the Chiefs this year, as their receiving corps has been a disappointment, and even the tight ends, headlined by Travis Kelce, have had a tough last month-plus. However, a reprieve appeared to be coming Kansas City’s way on Sunday as they were in a prime “get right” spot against a woefully bad Patriots team.

While it took a bit to get going, the Chiefs eventually hit their stride to take a 27-10 lead in the second half. It could’ve been an even bigger lead, but a couple red zone possessions stalled out and resulted in field goals. One of those came in the early third quarter when a third down pass to Kelce in the back of the end zone fell incomplete, with the star tight end doing his best to flop and draw an interference penalty to get a first down. That was unsuccessful, but it did yield a new reaction meme in the form of Taylor Swift dropping an f-bomb trying to figure out where the flag was.

Travis Kelce flops in the back of the end zone and Taylor Swift reacts like he was shot in the leg pic.twitter.com/sPABH4aH37

— Ben Brown () December 17, 2023

Watching Taylor Swift morph into a rabid Chiefs fan has been at true delight to watch this season, as she’s gone from happily cheering for big Kelce plays when they first started publicly dating to now being a full-on irrational fan like the rest of us. The telltale sign of that transformation is dropping f-bombs at the refs for not throwing flags on pretty clear non-calls, and Taylor puts her whole chest into this one.

It’s no fun when a family feuds, but it gets particularly nasty when the public gets involved. After Cardi B accused her estranged husband, Offset, of wrongdoing during an explosive Instagram Live, fans quickly began to take sides. Despite denying rumors that he was romantically connected to Chrisean Rock, people online have begun to flood Offset’s social media comment sections with nasty messages.

Although the personal attacks haven’t phased him, Offset put his foot down when people began to turn their attention to the late Migos member Takeoff. In a disgusting attempt to hurt Offset, several accounts made tasteless jokes about Takeoff’s tragic death. On Saturday, December 16, Offset reached his boiling point.

“Fan wishing death on Takeoff is crazy. Y’all lil ass better chill,” wrote Offset.

He later posted, “Correction: Fans using Takeoff’s name in the middle of all this isn’t cool. I’m still grieving my brother and would like for his name not to be brought up.”

Quavo also chimed in on the matter, coming to the defense of his late nephew. “Nephew ain’t wit the soap opera. LONG LIVE Rocket pray for y’all tho,” he wrote.
