Oh, Ukraine. Our hearts are breaking.

I never watch presidential debates. Here's why: they aren't actual debates. As someone who used to debate, I know that debating has set rules to which the speakers must adhere. If they don't abide by the rules, they lose, no matter how good the arguments are that they make. A question is asked and each participant takes turns responding, then each gets rebuttal time. Uninterrupted. This morning I've listened to lowlights from the debate. While Biden occasionally interrupted, Trump made an evening (and a spectacle) of it, and the moderator didn't stop him. In the future, I hope they will make better rules, and that if someone breaks the rules that person's microphone will be turned off.

I deeply appreciate when someone can reevaluate personal actions and realize those actions were wrong, then apologize publicly. I am cautiously hopeful that we're finally seeing pushback against some of the beliefs and unconstitutional acts of this administration. Perhaps renaming of some military basis may be next.

The nation’s top military officer says it was a mistake for him to have been in Lafayette Square with President Donald Trump last week

He wasn't wearing a mask.

There are far too many things wrong with this statement to list here.
"And now I have you telling me about dog walking, washing dishes and, you know what, I'd rather have him on the phone with some world leader than have him wash dishes because maybe his wife isn't there or his kids aren't there, you know," Trump said.

President Donald Trump said Monday that he would prefer for government employees to wash Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's dishes if his wife or son was not there to do so.

I don't know why everyone's giving him such a hard time. At least he wasn't wearing a tan suit. (By the way, THAT is sarcasm.)

“Hospitals are our new holy places and he’s completely disrespecting the sacrifice that the nurses and the docs and the staff in hospitals make by not wearing a mask," one doctor said. "What is he saying to them?”

We resemble snake handlers when we ignore science and insist on public worship gatherings in a pandemic.

How can we maintain self-care during a pandemic? I'd love to hear your thoughts in addition to mine here.

We have to take care of ourselves if we want to care for our communities.

How do we maintain self-care during a global pandemic? I hope you'll add your thoughts to mine below.

Today I'm thinking of those vulnerable persons, especially women and children, who are having to spend more time at home with their abusers.

I'm grateful for the members of the media who work to bring us the news during a pandemic, sometimes at the risk of their own health.

I'm grateful for delivery people. They are keeping many people safe, connected, even fed. And they are putting their own health at risk.

I honor the service and sacrifice of those who with gloved hand care for the very ill, then go home wondering if they are carrying the disease to those they love, or if they themselves will get sick.

This is a really interesting take on gender parity, especially as we continue discussing why all viable female candidates for President are no longer in the race.

We sat down with the United Nations secretary general to talk about how one wrests a patriarchal organization into the future.

On this International Women's Day, I celebrate the strides women have made in politics, lament the fact that women still don't have the influence they deserve, and continue to affirm the gifts of women in every arena of consequence.

I hope you'll add to my list. I'm thinking today of so many who seem to be forgotten in our discussions of COVID-19. Workers on cruise ships who serve the frightened and annoyed. Airline and airport personnel. Home health workers. Those who work in nursing facilities who clean rooms, cook and serve meals, wash laundry, then go home to their own loved ones and worry about spreading the disease. Those who love people who are confined and who can't get to see them and hold their hands. Those who are afraid. Workers who are furloughed. People who have no health insurance. Every doctor, nurse, aide, health care worker and every scientist and professional who works to make us all healthy, sometimes at their own risk.

What do you think Elizabeth Warren will do (or should do?) as her next step?

Blaming Democrats (or anyone) for the effects of a virus, calling it a hoax, is the last ditch effort of someone who doesn't have any idea what to do in a tough situation that could become a crisis in our country. Let's have a daily briefing from scientists who actually understand the progression of disease.

An appropriate opinion about the difficulty of these times, but maintaining hope.

"Ours is a world of nuclear giants and ethical infants. We know more about war than we know about peace, more about killing than we know about living." Gen. Omar Bradley, first US Joint Chief of Staff.

Political AND Spiritual???

Are you concerned about the current political/religious climate in the United States and elsewhere?

You've come to the right place.

Here we focus on information and inspiration. Here we focus on hope.

This page and podcast (PAS) explore the intersections and disconnects between what we see in the modern culture and what our faiths teach us, or what our inner spirits know is true. Because all life is deeply influenced by politics, we will not shy from discussing complex political topics.
