Travel is exhilarating; it gives you a sense of freedom and a chance of experiencing a unique culture to picturesque destinations. We only live once and to travel while we are still young is an experience on its own. To explore the beauty of the mountains, the serenity of the clear river is something that surely going to stay a lifetime with you.
In all honesty, our country has indefinite destinations when it comes to vacations. You can either stargaze; look at the clearer night sky which dramatically displays a flamboyant clutter of tiny dots in Pangong Tso Ladakh or Rann of Kutch, Gujarat. Or enjoy the scenic beauty of the Eastern Ghats, snowfall of Mussorie, or terraced valleys of Koraput.
Be it a laid-back vacation or a mini trip away from the hustle of the cities, you can easily enjoy a budget trip with these top weekend getaways.
Koraput, Odisha:
If Odisha is India’s best-kept secret, then 500 km from the capital is the most beautiful one. Nestled in the Eastern Ghats is the southern district of Koraput, known for its mountains, waterfalls, and the tribes indigenous to Odisha. The perfect destination for a weekend getaway which leaves you spellbound, Koraput, and its lush green backdrop will leave you speechless at any time of the year.
After a 16-hour train journey from Bhubaneswar, among the terraced valleys and hills, you reach the town on Jeypore in Koraput. You can either get off at the Koraput junction or at the Jeypore station, according to your preferred destination of stay. Just 19 km from Jeypore is the Upper Kolab Dam over the Kolab river, a tributary of the River Godavari. The water body surrounded by hills at all sides makes for the perfect peaceful spot at dusk. The Jagannath temple in Koraput town is another well-known tourist spot for the amalgamation of cultures and deities from all across the country.
Mcleodganj, Himachal Pradesh:
If you are looking for a place with picturesque trekking trails, soothing weather, idyllic landscapes, and a vibrant culture then Mcleodganj is the perfect place for you. Situated in the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, Mcleodganj is a suburb of Dharmshala. It is covered by mountains and you can trek to Triund (a small hill station) which offers a spectacular view of the Dhauladhar ranges.
You can experience bliss while camping under billions of stars with your friends in Triund. Mcleodganj is one of the prettiest places you can visit, regardless of the season.
If you are traveling by air, Gaggal Airport (18 km away) is the nearest airport. In case you plan to go via train then Pathankot Railway Station (89 km away) is the nearest railway station. The smartest way is to use public or private buses or hire a taxi.
Dehradun- Mussorie, Uttarakhand:
To all the nature lovers out there Dehradun- Mussorie is a must-visit place. Luscious green trees, pristine water, crazy wildlife experience, you get it all. It is one of those places that is calm yet filled with a positive vibe all around. The people are welcoming and you can anytime take a stroll down the road and never get tired of the lush greenery.
You can stay at Homestays for a day in Dehradun and in the morning, take a local bus or grab a bike and ride to Mussorie. Keep making stops in between to enjoy the beauty of the place. From Dehradun, Mussorie is just 33 km away, so it will roughly take you around 1 hr and 30 mins. In Mussoorie, you can either hire bikes or walk to famous landmarks.
Traveling via Air then Jolly Grant Airport is the closest airport that is 20km away from Dehradun. Though, the place is well connected via train and private and public transport.
