The Good, The Bad & The Ugly - Silverstone
The British GP produced some monumental racing last weekend. After the long summer break, the MotoGP riders produced some of the finest racing this year. Therefore, Motorcycling Today had a very rough time putting some names under the three lists
THE GOOD
Miguel Oliveira
Arguably, the best overall performance at Silverstone. Although he missed the podium, his second half of the race was the stuff of legends. The Portuguese rider is well known for his adaptable riding style under mixed conditions and proved why he is one the best MotoGP riders of the current grid. If he continues like this, he will bring some podium joy to the CryptoData RNF Aprilia team at some point in 2023.
Aleix Espargaro
The Spaniard was the leading man in the last lap and stole the show from Bagnaia. Who could have foreseen a victory for Aprilia on Friday? We certainly didn't! All in all, a top performance that brings him back the momentum and the confidence needed for Aleix to fight back for the wins and podiums in the upcoming races.
Alex Marquez
Sprint master. Not so good in the race. His sprint performance gave him his first MotoGP win of his career. 2023 brought back the best from the younger Marquez and he can only improve.
THE BAD
Jack Miller
Had Honda not failed to finish the races in points, maybe he would have been our pick for the ugly section. The Australian lacked the pace in the race and on Sunday he was nonexistent. More than that, he was defeated again by Binder. It looks more and more like the Ducati days are coming back for Miller.
Fabio Quartararo
Another could have been an option for the ugly section. Dead last in the qualifying session. His worst ever MotoGP weekend by far. Yamaha struggled very badly, however, Morbidelli managed to outpace Quartararo regularly throughout the whole weekend. All in all, Quartararo's nightmare season continues and it doesn't look very promising.
THE UGLY
HONDA RACING CORPORATION
We couldn't select one or two Honda riders. The bike seems to be unbearable and very difficult to ride. No Honda rider scored points in either the sprint race or the main race. The disaster seems to go on and on for them. Mir came back after a strenuous injury, Marquez did too. None of them were even closer to the front, but they were certainly very, very close to the back of the pack. LCR riders were last, in what seems to be the worst racing weekend ever for the Japanese manufacturer. When will they return to their former glory? Not too soon, it seems.
