This is a historic day between two countries, The Bahamas and the United States of America, the State of Florida and the Miami Dade Commission.

Today, the Commission voted on the naming of a portion of Coconut Grove to “Little Bahamas of Coconut Grove”.

The Member of Parliament for Central Grand Bahama Iram Lewis went to the House of Assembly when it last met to bring awareness to this progressive undertaking. He asked for the Government's support in making this motion put forth by Commissioner Ken Russell of the Miami Dade Commission, in the state of Florida a reality.

It is with great pleasure to inform the Bahamian people, including those of the diaspora domiciled in Coconut Grove that the motion was indeed a success.

I would like to give special thanks to Mr. Sonless Martin and Congresswoman Frederika Wilson and other stakeholders who played a pivotal role ensuring this initiative came to fruition.
