I don’t know how this incredibly sloppy game is going to end. As I write this it’s 9-8 Pirates, after Yasmani Grandal hit the Bucs fourth homer of the game - a fact only surpassed in improbability by the 6 runs the Cubs scored on base-loaded walks in the previous half-inning, which was interrupted by a two and a half hour rain delay....

Pitching around the bunt by Cronenworth and the error by Amaya/Busch by Imanaga was a sight to behold. Pounding Machado in, in, in with the fastball and then splitters away to Bogaerts. Have a plan, commit to it, and execute it. This is the stuff of a Pitcher, and the Cubs found one.

After that great finish to the Cubs game I’m bouncing around MLB.TV - watched a wild finish in Milwaukee, where a batter’s interference on a third-strike wild pitch prevented the tying run from scoring! After that the Rays finished the 1-0 win to move the Cubs into first place. I then jumped to the Dodgers-DBacks (should it be D’Backs?) Just in time to see Gabriel Moreno beat out an infield single by sliding feet-first into first base....

Five left-handed batters in the lineup tonight for the Red Sox against Hayden Wesneski should be a good test of the adjustments which seem to be making him more effective against lefties so far this season. And even as I type this, Wesneski fields a dribbler by Jaren Duran and sprints to the first-base bag for the first out. So, his energy level seems good.

Interesting to see that Pete Crow-Armstrong gets the start in CF for the first game against the Red Sox tonight. Taking advantage of his defensive acumen, and perhaps an opportunity to build on Thursday’s home run. While I don’t want to see Imanaga give up any hard contact it would be fun to watch PCA chase something down on the spacious Fenway lawn.
