5G soon in India, to be 10 times faster than 4G

New Delhi, June 15: With the Union Cabinet approving the proposal to conduct a spectrum auction, India is soon to get a strong ecosystem for the launch of 5G services which will likely to about 10 times faster than 4G.

To boost digital connectivity, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the proposal of the Department of Telecommunications to conduct a spectrum auction through which spectrum will be assigned to the successful bidders for providing 5G services to public and enterprises.

IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the 5G spectrum auction is the beginning of a new era for the Indian Telecom.

Taking to Twitter, Vaishnaw said, “Moving forward with PM Narendra Modi ji’s vision of a Digital India. Spectrum auction announced today is an integral part of developing the ‘Bharat Ka 5G’ ecosystem. No mandatory requirement to make upfront payment by the successful bidders. Payments in 20 equal annual instalments. Relief in bank guarantee.”

“In line with the Telecom Reforms in September 2021, zero Spectrum Usage Charges (SUC) on the spectrum acquired in the upcoming auction. Continuing the Telecom Reforms, development and setting up of Private Captive Networks will be enabled,” he said.

According to the Centre, the 5G test bed setup in 8 top technology institutes of India is speeding up the launch of domestic 5G technology in India. The PLI (Production-Linked Incentives) schemes for mobile handsets, telecom equipments and the launch of the India Semiconductor Mission is expected to help build a strong ecosystem for the launch of 5G services in the country.

Spectrum is an integral and necessary part of the entire 5G ecosystem. The Centre believes the upcoming 5G services have the potential to create new-age businesses, generate additional revenue for enterprises and provide employment arising from the deployment of innovative use-cases and technologies.

A total of 72097.85 MHz of spectrum with a validity period of 20 years will be put to auction to be held by the end of July 2022. The auction will be held for spectrum in various Low (600 MHz, 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 2300 MHz), Mid (3300 MHz) and High (26 GHz) frequency bands.

It is expected that the Mid and High band spectrum will be utilised by telecom service providers to roll out 5G technology-based services capable of providing speed and capacities which would be about 10 times higher than what is possible through the current 4G services.

The spectrum auction will be benefitted from the Telecom Sector Reforms announced in September 2021. The reforms include zero Spectrum Usage Charges (SUC) on the spectrum acquired in the upcoming auction, providing significant relief to the service providers in terms of the operating cost of telecom networks. Further, the requirement of submitting a financial bank guarantee equivalent to one annual instalment has also been done away with.

Continuing the pace of Telecom Sector reforms, the Cabinet announced various progressive options with regard to the spectrum to be acquired by bidders through the forthcoming spectrum auction for facilitating ease of doing business.

For the first time ever, there is no mandatory requirement to make upfront payments by successful bidders. Payments for spectrum can be made in 20 equal annual instalments to be paid in advance at the beginning of each year. This is expected to significantly ease cash flow requirements and lower the cost of doing business in this sector. The bidders would be given an option to surrender the spectrum after 10 years with no future liabilities with respect to balance instalments.

The availability of a sufficient backhaul spectrum is also necessary to enable the roll-out of 5G services. To meet the backhaul demand, the Cabinet has decided to provisionally allot 2 carriers of 250 MHz each in E-band to the Telecom Service Providers. The Cabinet also decided to double the number of traditional Microwave backhaul carriers in the existing frequency bands of 13, 15, 18 and 21 GHz bands.

The Union Cabinet also decided to enable the development and setting up of Private Captive Networks to spur a new wave of innovations in Industry 4.0 applications such as machine-to-machine communications, Internet of Things (IoT), and Artificial Intelligence (AI) across automotive, healthcare, agriculture, energy, and other sectors.–(ANI)

Srinagar, Jun 02 (KNO): Union Home Minister Amit Shah has convened a high level security meet in New Delhi to deliberate on the spate of target killings in Kashmir and to formulate a new security strategy to put an end to killing of minority community members, officials in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said Thursday.

An official in the MHA told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the Home Minister Shah met National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval in north block and discussed the prevailing situation in Kashmir especially the spurt in killing of minority community members and non-J&K officers. The official said that it was decided to convene a high-level review meeting on Friday to evolve a fresh strategy to plug the “killing cycle in Kashmir” and to prevent mass exodus of migrant Kashmiri Pandits.

On Friday, the militants killed a bank manager of Elaqai Dihati Bank at Kulgam. The killing came just a few days after militants shot dead a woman teacher from Jammu’s Samba outside her school in Gopalpora, Kulgam.

Sources in the MHA said that all the top officials of J&K’s security grid that include DGP Dilbagh Singh, officers from the CRPF, army and intelligence grid will participate in the meeting. NSA Dova and MoS Dr Jitendera will also remain present in the meeting. J&K LG Manoj Sinha, as per the sources, has already reached New Delhi is believed to have briefed Home Minister Shah about the spate of attacks in Kashmir and the motive behind it.

Sources said that Friday’s meeting will evolve a strategy that includes fresh plan to deal with the growing attacks on minorities and also new security strategy to deal with the remaining militants in Kashmir.

The meeting at North Block, to be chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, will be attended by J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Intelligence Bureau Director Arvind Kumar, Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, MHA Special Secretary (Internal Security) V S K Kaumudi and other senior officials of the Kashmir division.

The sources in the MHA said that no decision that will make the situation volatile in Kashmir will be taken but an iron-first policy will be finalised to deal with the militants involved in target killings in Kashmir. “Given the fact that Kashmir is full of tourists at this point of time, no harsh decision would be taken in the meeting that would create a fear-psychosis among tourists,” they said, adding that “a well-thought out plan will be worked keeping in view the upcoming Amarnath Yatra that would start on June 30.”—(KNO)

19 bullet injury marks on Moosewala’s body: Autopsy report

Chandigarh, Jun 2: Slain Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala bore 19 bullet injury marks and would have died within 15 minutes, said his autopsy report. Moosewala was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Punjab’s Mansa district on Sunday, a day after the state government pruned his security cover.

The assailants had sprayed bullets on 28-year-old Moosewala in Jawahar Ke village after waylaying his vehicle. At least three weapons were used and thirty empty cases were found from the site.

A panel of five doctors had conducted the post-mortem examination of Moosewala.

The autopsy report said the singer probably died “within 15 minutes” of receiving the injury.

The cause of death was “hemorrhagic shock which is due to ante mortem fire arm injuries described and sufficient to cause death in ordinary course of nature”, the report said.

According to the report, Moosewala’s body bore maximum bullet injury marks on his right side.

An X-ray of the whole body was also conducted to detect projectiles, it said. Moosewala’s red T-shirt and payjama were having blood stains and multiple holes corresponding to the injuries, it said.

On May 29, Moosewala was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Punjab’s Mansa district, a day after the state government curtailed his security cover.

In the attack, the singer’s cousin and a friend, who were travelling in a jeep with him, were also injured. At least three weapons were used and thirty empty cases were found from the site.

A CCTV footage, which emerged on social media, showed that the vehicle of Moosewala was being followed by a Corolla car in Jawahar Ke village on Sunday evening.

A Bolero car stopped in front of Moosewala’s Thar and then the occupants of both cars started indiscriminate firing at the singer, according to the FIR.

The Punjab police had termed the incident a case of an inter-gang rivalry and had said that the Lawrence Bishnoi gang was behind the murder of Moosewala.

Canada-based Goldy Brar, who is the member of Bishnoi gang, had claimed the responsibility of the murde.

According to police, Moosewala’s murder appeared to be in retaliation of Akali leader Vicky Middukhera’s murder that took place last year. The name of Moosewala’s manager Shaganpreet had figured in the murder of Middukhera’s murder.–(PTI)

Kejriwal demands adequate security for Kashmiri Pandits in Valley

New Delhi, Jun 1: Anguished over “targeted” killing of many Kashmiri Pandits in the Valley, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday demanded that they should be given adequate security and their voices should not be “quelled”.

In an online press briefing, he also said that militant forces don’t want communal amity in Jammu & Kashmir as members of the Kashmiri Pandit community are being “targeted and killed”, in a reminder of what happened in the 90s.

He also said that 16 Kashmiri Pandits have been killed this year.

“I demand Kashmiri Pandits be given adequate security and and their voices should not be quelled. They should be allowed to establish their homes in their ‘janmabhoomi’ (birth place),” Kejriwal said.

“It is my appeal to the Centre that to help Kashmiti Pandits settle in Kashmir, we will all have to work together, and we are ready to play whatever role we can,” he said.

Hindu teacher killing: Protests rock Jammu for 2nd day amid demand to sack officers

Samba (J-K), Jun 1: Protests against the killing of a Hindu school teacher in Kulgam continued to rock several parts of Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts of Jammu and Kashmir on the second consecutive day on Wednesday.

Rajni Bala (36) was shot dead by militants following which Kashmiri Pandits, employed under the PM package, had threatened to undertake mass migration from the Valley if they were not relocated to safe places within the next 24 hours.

The protesters on Wednesday blocked the Jammu-Pathankot Highway in Samba and demanded dismissal of officers responsible for failing to transfer Bala to a safe place that resulted in her killing.

Meanwhile, Samba, the district the victim belonged to, observed a complete shut down to protest against the killing.

Posted at a government school in Gopalpora, Bala was shot in the head by militants on Tuesday. She succumbed to injuries at a hospital, according to police. Calling the Valley’s Hindu population a “soft target”, Jammu and Kashmir BJP chief Ravinder Raina, who visited the bereaved family in Samba and faced protest, said there is an urgent need to formulate a security plan for the safety of the community as Pakistani militants were targeting them constantly.

Hundreds of protesters took out a rally toward the Jammu-Pathankot Highway and raised anti-government and anti-Pakistan slogans. They staged a sit-in on the highway, blocking the vehicular traffic and demanded dismissal of officers, especially that of Kulgam CEO, for turning down repeated requests of the couple and delaying Bala’s transfer to Kulgam for months.

The protestors also raised slogans against Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha over the complete failure on the security front to protect the Hindus serving in government offices in the Valley and burnt an effigy of the administration.

The administration led by Deputy commissioner Anuradha reached out to protesters to lift the blockade on the highway, but the agitated protesters continued their demonstration.

Shattered by the death of his wife by militants minutes after he dropped her at the school, Raj Kumar had on Tuesday blamed the administration for turning a “deaf ear” to their repeated requests to transfer her in view of the targeted killings of Hindus in the Union territory.

The couple was transferred on Monday, just a day before the attack. Tuesday was supposed to be Bala’s last day at her old school.

Kumar said Hindus are soft targets in Kashmir and the administration should relocate them in view of the fear psychosis triggered in the wake of the selective killings by terrorists.

Meanwhile, the protesters told Raina that their government led by L-G Sinha has totally failed to protect Hindus in Kashmir.

The protesters also tried to heckle him, but several BJP activists and cops intervened.

“Hindus are being killed in Muslim majority Kashmir under the BJP rule. Twenty-two Hindus, including Kashmiri Pandits, Dogra Hindus and outsiders, have been killed in the past and several injured by (bullet) shots,” former Samba MLA Yashpal Kundal said.

In Jammu city, BJP student wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Dogra Front, Kashmiri Pandits Front and Bajrang Dal, also staged protests against the killing.–(PTI)
