Army chief General Asim Munir, in a meeting with the top 10 businessmen of the country, on Monday night assured them in the presence of Finance Minister Ishaq Dar that the worst is behind us, the country has overcome the possibility of default and we will prevail as a nation.
There is no official word available about the meeting, but sources said the army chief sounded optimistic throughout the meeting and exuded confidence that the current economic difficulties would be overcome. He asked the businessmen to stay firm and confident.
According to a source, the army chief told the top businessmen representing different sectors that nations face difficult times and we are also facing tough times, but the worst is behind us and we will prevail. General Asim repeatedly referred to Islamic teachings to assure his audience that Pakistan will successfully overcome the present testing times.
One of the participants, who attended the meeting but insisted to remain anonymous, said the businessmen had requested the army chief for this meeting. Finance Minister Ishaq Dar was invited by the army chief to attend the session, which was termed very successful by the businessmen.

Imran Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), challenged PEMRA's prohibition order banning TV broadcasters from airing his live or recorded speeches on Monday by filing a case in the Lahore High Court (LHC).
The plea has been scheduled for hearing by the LHC registrar's office, and Judge Shahid Bilal Hassan will consider it tomorrow.
On Sunday, the media regulator had put a ban on Imran's speeches and press interviews with "immediate effect" after he had lashed out at former army leader Qamar Javed Bajwa for what he called "supporting current rulers in their various corruption cases". The licence of ARY News has also been suspended by Pemra for playing brief clips of Imran's speech at Zaman Park in bulletin.

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) on Monday approved an additional surcharge of Rs 3.39 per unit to power consumers of all power distribution companies (DISCOs) including the K-Electric for the next four months.
NEPRA allowed the federal government to make an addition of Rs 3.39 to the power surcharge making it a total of Rs 3.82/unit for four months (March-June) of the ongoing fiscal year.

The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) has successfully attracted $355 million in investments for its startup ecosystem project in 2022, said an official of MOITT on Tuesday.
The ministry has created policy recommendations for regulatory organizations, including the State Bank, SECP, FBR, and Intellectual Property Organizations, to simplify the regulatory process for startups, he added.
Additionally, Ignite is developing a startup portal that allows investors to review and interact with startups under different sectors and themes, facilitating business matchmaking between startups and investors.
Pakistan's IT and Telecom sector has become a paradise for investment due to the efforts of the ministry over the past four years.
The ministry's National Incubation Centers have established an entrepreneurial environment in Pakistan, resulting in $20mn of investments in startups. The National Freelance Training Program, which was initiated and funded by the ministry, trained 8,647 graduates through international standard IT courses, who contributed $23mn to the economy through freelancing.

Pakistan Navy in an action in the Arabian Sea foiled a bid to smuggle narcotics worth nearly Rs4 billion.
As per details, Pakistan Navy’s ship during an action in the open sea arrested smugglers and recovered 280kg of crystal m**h. The recovered drugs are nearly worth Rs4 billion in the market, the spokesperson added.
The smugglers and the recovered narcotics have been handed over to law enforcement agencies for probe.
In a separate action in 2020, Pakistan Navy in a successful intelligence-based operation busted a major contingent of narcotics being sent by sea.
A raid near the outskirts of Karachi, the seaways adjacent to Mubarak Village was explored where a vessel carrying copious amounts of Hashish and He**in were confiscated.
According to details, the recovered amount of the bust is approximately 300 million rupees approximately which includes 675 kilograms of Hashish and 4 kilograms of He**in.

The first oil cargo from Russia is expected to arrive in Pakistan by the end of April after the latter agreed to the former’s demand to import a single cargo first as a test case to bridge “trust deficit”.
Moscow has already offered to export 100,000 barrels of crude oil per day to Islamabad.
Following Saudi Arabia that also exports around 100,000 barrels of oil per day, Russia will emerge as the second largest crude oil supplier to Pakistan if the both the countries sign a deal.
Sources told that Russia had raised doubt “over the seriousness of Pakistan to mature the oil deal”. Therefore, in a recent meeting held between the two countries, Moscow had asked Islamabad to import “one oil cargo” as a test case.
The sources said that Russia had heavy crude oil but Pakistan lacked the technology to refine such oil, therefore, it agreed to export blended oil to the country.
However, Moscow asked Islamabad to import “one crude oil cargo” first to exhibit trust in the oil deal.
Following Russian demand, sources said that Islamabad agreed to import “one crude oil cargo” by the end of April this year, paving way for a bigger deal.
