IN KABAYAN | OWNERS OF MOTOR VEHICLES WITH LOUD MUFFLERS TO BE FINED, IMPRISONED

The local government of Kabayan issued Municipal Ordinance No. 174-21 regulating motor vehicles with modified aftermarket pipes or those with pipes swapped out.

This is after complaints and public condemnation about motor vehicles with loud and roaring mufflers.

Some motor vehicle owners remove the mandated factory installed stock pipe or muffler and replace them with custom aftermarket pipe which emits loud noise, the ordinance states.

The ordinance also cited a study stating that muffler noise emitted by motorcycle produces as high as 97 to over 110 decibels which is beyond the national standard for residential areas which is 60 decibels at daytime and 50 at nighttime.

Anyone driving a loud motor vehicle with the said modifications caught traveling within the town will be fined P1000.00 or be imprisoned in not more than six months, or both. The said fine and imprisonment are at the discretion of the court.

Further, the Kabayan Municipal Police Station and the MPOSSB are ordered to fully implement the ordinance and are mandated to coordinate with the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
