5 Yard Productions A focus on the struggle toward excellence in athletics and to inspire youth overwhelmed by the bound

Originating in Punjab, Sikhi is one of the fasting growing religions in the world with 25 million Sikhs living across the globe. Sikhs follow a number of doctrines including the maintenance of kes (unshorn hair). Tying kes in a turban has become synonymous with the Sikh identity and stands as a symbol of pride, courage, and resilience. Nonetheless wearing a turban in western society presents many

challenges. Practicing members are often faced with an internal struggle of fitting in while maintaining their identity and faith, specifically Sikhs playing sports. These insecurities often develop at a young age in the Sikh community which lead many Sikh youth, who are heavily involved with sports, to question the principles of their faith. This project intends to bring light to the struggles and achievements of Sikh athletes while laying a foundation to inspire Sikh youth. The overarching aim of this project is to cement the notion that Sikhs, despite the various adversities and struggles they may face in the athletic field, are able to maintain their identity while still thriving and excelling in their areas of skill and expertise.
