If you have been wondering were the podcast has been, well there has been a few reasons why there hasn’t been episodes released recently but the latest is that I found myself in a bit of mischief. Apparently I am too uncoordinated to navigate stairs. No I wasn’t pushed, a point my husband was keen to make to the ambos! (He wasn’t home.) After weeks of being ignored (ladies how frequently does this happen to us) the doctors finally listened to me and ordered an MRI. The damage is worse than they had thought. I knew it was bad but didn’t think it was this bad. Looks like I will probably need surgery. I’m aiming for the podcast to be back in the New Year but given a few things are up in the air at the moment it’s hard to say an exact date.

Thank you for your understanding. This is a lesson in patience, not my strong suit. I am learning to hear explanations of the damage/ injury without wanting to expel my breakfast. I’m also learning that I’m more squeamish than I thought. Most of all, this is a lesson of overcoming a little adversity in life. I am able to draw strength from the amazing guests that have gone through much MUCH more challenging obstacles in life and overcome.

Thank you for your patience. I do the podcast for you so I’m thankful that you will stick around until I come back.

I look forward to bringing you more incredible guests in the New Year.

Love,
Fiona

NEW EPISODE ALERT! Scott Ryder served for 22 years with the Australian Army, including 16 years as an operator with the 2nd Commando Regiment. He served in East Timor and multiple tours of Afghanistan and Iraq. He holds numerous commendations and a Masters of Business, and he works in veteran charities to improve the life of veterans and their families.

From the age of 12, Scott Ryder knew he wanted to join the army, and he signed up as soon as he could. After serving as a paratrooper and in East Timor with 3 RAR, he wanted more. He trained all summer and took the gruelling selection course for the commandos, earning the prized green beret on his second attempt.

His book "Forged in Fire' takes us inside the secretive world of the commandos. Ryder shares battlefield stories from his tours to Afghanistan, where his regiment saw some of the heaviest fighting Australian forces have experienced since the Vietnam War. After being seriously injured in a shocking Black Hawk helicopter crash in Kandahar, he was the only survivor to return to active service.

Forged in Fire can be purchased through retailers Dymocks, Collins, Readings, Audible and Amazon just to list a few.
Audiobook is on Apple Books, Spotify and Audible.

NEW EPSIODE ALERT! Sarah Davis survived hippo attacks, being arrested and detained and running lethal rapids. She travelled through a country on the brink of civil war and in the background was dealing with the risk of kidnap.
The trip included over 1,000km of rafting, followed by 3,000km of kayaking and Sarah became the first woman to lead an expedition down this mighty river. Along the way, she immersed herself in the fascinating local cultures of the five countries she travelled through: Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Sudan and Egypt.
Sarah then went on to paddle 2500km down the Murray River.
She then swapped paddles for pedals and in 2021 cycled across Australia, which included crossing sand dunes and battling 40°C days while losing count of the number of flat tyres she and her cycle buddy Tara had during their testing 4700- kilometre journey. Earlier this Sarah headed to the Middle East where she bike-packed solo 1600km through Oman. During this adventure, she felt that being out of her comfort zone wasn’t as familiar as it used to be. She has decided to do something about it. She’s also writing her next book: Gulp! How to Embrace Risk and Live Boldly. Bringing these together Sarah is embarking on a year of ‘Gulps’: 52 things that’ll take her into the unknown, uncertain and uncomfortable.

Delving into Sarah's incredible encounters with danger, her bold expeditions across deserts and rivers, and her unyielding determination to push past fear. Stay tuned as we uncover Sarah's extraordinary journey, her fearless spirit, and her mission to inspire others to embrace risk and live boldly. Get ready to be captivated by an episode packed with exhilarating escapades and invaluable life lessons.

NEW EPISODE ALERT! I had the absolute pleasure of interviewing Rod Henderson on the poddy. Rod is a military veteran who has recently completed a book about his 22 years in the military. He is excited to share his journey and writing process on an upcoming podcast. The book is a culmination of his experiences and is set to be released in the next week. He never expected to be on this incredible writing journey, but is grateful to have the opportunity to share his story with others.
Rod's memoir, "Stop Screaming, I'm Scared Too," (amazing title by the way) was inspired by his volunteering at the war memorial, where he began sharing his story with the staff. This raw and transparent account of his mental health journey eventually turned into a book. Despite being a first-time author, Rod overcame apprehension and laid his story bare for the world to read. The title of the book itself was a reminder of a patch he had won from a mate in a poker game, showing his sense of humor and resilience in the face of his struggle.
