Many opponents of socialism like to say "well, socialism failed and that is why it's no longer being practiced or should be practiced" and end it at that.
But why don't they talk about how socialists and union members were lynched, harassed and murdered the past two hundred years? Surely socialism had to have been defeated some way, but people never bother asking why or how, and ignore the disgusting use of violence used to keep these groups down.
No one talks about the forced deportation of workers in Arizona after striking in the early 1900s No one talks about Little's--and many union members across the world's--lynching, which should really be called an assassination. No one talks about the goon squads used for decades, to kill, injure and oppress unions and socialists. No one talks about the soldiers the U.S. had in Russia during their revolution, fighting Soviet troops. No one talks about the hired mercenaries used to attack union workers in Colombia, and no one talks about the United Fruit company incident in Guatemala, or the US backed coup in Chile.
There is a reason socialism "is dead" in the 21st century. It's not because it doesn't work, or because of "muh human nature". It's because countries world wide have killed millions of people--mainly workers--to make sure it would die. And people never talk about that.
