Messing around with my Statue of Liberty today, trying out angles, lightning, and the Stage Light Portrait Mode setting on my . Which one is the best?

Take a trend, then make it your own.

A while back we noticed marble racing was trending: set up a long track down a hill, release a bunch of marbles, and see who wins. To celebrate the Indy 500, we made our own marble racetrack, complete with marble fans, obstacles, pit stops and commentary. We even painted the marbles the exact colors of the racers that would be competing.

It was a labor of love. Still one of my favorite projects to this day.

If your brand was a person, what would they be like?

Hidden camera pranks are my favorite. So in this MTV spot, we set up cameras around in and I just...jumped in. Something a personified MTV would definitely do.

Don’t be afraid to be real, gritty and low-fi with your content.

Before Zoom was cool (I know, it’s not, but still), we made Teen Mom promos out of video chat casting calls. They show a very real, authentic side to the show’s stars and helped audiences fall in love with these girls and get to know their stories before they even tuned in.

Another simple, low-budget content tip: give stock videos your own VO.

This is another promo we did for . We looked for the strangest stock videos we could find (it wasn’t hard, there’s a lot), then had fun adding our own voice overs to the work.

Say it without saying it.

Another simple ex*****on idea: the tabletop shoot. Simply set up your camera directly above a table and set your scene. It’s an easy, fun way to create a dynamic image that tells a visual brand story.

If you don’t have design or animation skills, don’t worry, sometimes practical effects are better than digital (ref. most movies of the early 2000’s).

We shot this Buffalo Wild Wings promo during the last season of Game of Thrones. All practical effects, no disappointing finales.

You don’t even need to do a video shoot to make video good content. You can always go stock.

In this spot for , we gathered tons of powerful stock photos that represented the political issues of the moment, put ‘em together, added a cool chant, and voila.

Branded content can be simple. All you need is an idea.

Here’s something I made while working at . We printed logo stickers with just the “tv” part, then went to the streets to slap them on all the M’s we could find. The idea is that everything MTV stands for—music, pop culture, interesting stories—is everywhere.

Seems fitting to begin something with the ending of something. Behold, the Bay Area sunset I shot for a client. needed.

If you look closely you can see me wandering into frame like an idiot for a second. I was picking wildflowers for my daughters and sunsets can make people emotional so everyone just be cool alright?
