People Experiencing verbal abuse are often chipped away of their self-esteem and blame themselves for the abuse they receive. Many done even realize its an unhealthy form of communication.
Some common signs of verbal abuse:
1. Name-calling
Example: “You idiot, now you have made me angry!”
The most common one and aggressive phrases are used in most conversations instead of trying to talk through an argument. The abuser will yell until they get what they want.
2. Condescension
Example: “No wonder you are always moaning about your weight, look how clean your plate is!”
It can start off funny, which is why it often goes undetected, but over time condescension becomes belittling.
3. Manipulation
Example: “If you really loved me you wouldn’t say or do that.”
Manipulation, is subtle, like turning situations around and putting the blame on the abused partner.
3. Criticism

Example: “Why are you so disorganized? I can always count on you to ruin our nights out!”
Constant criticism and belittling of a significant other are NOT healthy, and over time can lead to a significant loss of self-esteem.
5. Demeaning Comments
Examples: “You women, always crying stupid tears for nothing.”
A partner who loves and respects you will not use something that is an inherent part of you to put you down, even if its not common.
6. Threats
Even if it doesn’t seem like a threat, a loving partner does not resort to them to get their way.
Examples “If you don’t do that you might find yourself spending the night outdoors!” or I will kick you out!
7. Blame
Blame is one of the most common forms of verbal abuse and involves constantly putting the blame for one’s actions onto their partner instead of taking responsibility for them.
Examples: “You are the reason why we are never on time for anything!” or “Look what you made me do now!”
8. Accusations
Often stemming from severe jealousy, repeated accusations are a form of verbal abuse.
Examples: “I bet you are cheating on me!” or “I saw you had fun flirting with your boss again, while I was stuck chatting to your boring coworkers.”

What is Toxic Positivity?

Positivity is a much celebrated word today but when you are in denial of other feeling, Positivity itself can become toxic and detrimental to your self.

🖤 All emotions are part of human nature and must be validated

🖤If you are constantly disregarding it, then you are causing shame, self doubt to your self as well as might harm people around you as well.

Do you think you are honouring all emotions?

ARA RASOOL........................................................
The day I hit rock bottom was when I decided to break free from the cultural chains that had imprisoned me for years. The patriarchal South Asian Muslim culture had limited me since I was a kid and it took me many years into adulthood to stand up for myself.
And in standing up for myself I gave voice to many like me.

The society told me I couldn’t study because I belonged at home, so I graduated from the Sri Lanka College of Journalism and am currently studying for MSc - Psychology.

The society told me I couldn’t work so I went on to become a journalist, co -founded a bistro that employs over twenty, manage the bistro’s digital marketing, and launch my style-line.

The society told me that I should bring my daughters up to be obedient women but today my daughters are my pillars and my motivation. They’re vocal about their feelings and choices. Their strength, intellect, and bravery makes me proud.

The society told me I should look more like a mother and ignore my body so I now hit the gym six days a week.
Many women have suffered much worse in the hands of the patriarchy. I meet them everyday. They are my family, they are my friends, my neighbors, and even strangers. I help the women in my everyday life to start breaking barriers and start making the change our daughters deserve.
And I live for these women. I speak for them. I am them.
I will continue to give my voice to those who cannot speak for themselves even if it’s not heard.
Like Ruth Bader said, real change, enduring change, happens one step at a time.

She is one of those girls who I am deeply inspired and had much difficulty drafting a bio because of her extensive work which left me in Awe. She was recognized for her exceptional social service by the Junior Chamber International, which awarded her the prestigious Ten Outstanding Young Persons of Sri Lanka (TOYP) award in recognition of her contribution towards Children, World Peace and Human Rights. An early childhood educator and child guidance counselor by profession, she further enhanced her career by joining the Doctor’s welfare society at a hospital and taught primary grade and special needs children for many years. A turning point which made her persistent to concentrate on street children and making their life better was when she visited the Center for Street Children and witnessed the pain and agony these children were going through. Motivated by her visit, it was just the beginning of her tireless journey to give these street children an opportunity to prosper in their life. Subsequently, she applied her experience to give solace and advice for desolate women and provided them efficient counseling services which gave them emotional strength through motivation. Razni, an identity of sacrifice faced many struggles to achieve her success. She has to face many hardships and challenges constantly to get approval for many of her social service projects and completing her education has not been easy but every aspect of hardship she had to face, she came up higher and stronger with a resilient of a fiery spirit. To alleviate poverty by providing a platform, she initiated the procession of Care Station (NGO). She is the Director of this organization which focuses on child sponsorships, educational schollarships,
Livelihood, self employment oppprtunities, water and sanitation, Orphan Care, refugee assistance, housing for the homeless, relief aid during natural disasters etc. She was also featured in the book I AM INSPIRED" A book on 50 innovative Sri Lankan leaders, entrepreneurs, and drivers of change to inspire our country's current and future generations. With monumental strength and a positive attitude, she walks in a path winning hearts and spreading smi

Have you felt like giving up on your dreams or stopping what you do from time to time?

Has exhaustion hit you and you felt like you just can't do it anymore.

Have you lost the Zest?

It is OK to feel this way. Alas, we are humans and all this feelings are common. When you feel like giving up always ;

1. Think why you started in the first place. Go back to those fancy dreams and remember how you felt.

2. Remember it is ok to feel uncomfortable. You don't need to feel motivated all the time. Don't beat yourself up. Ask yourself what you can do about it.

3.Talk about your achievements to someone else. Have a buddy whom you can share even your simplest achievements. This will help to motivate you.

4. Be proud of what you do. Even if you haven't made enough progress every little step counts. Make a social media post! Tweet. It is ok to gloat!!

5. Take a break. It is ok to Shut down for a while if it is too overwhelming.

6.One of my own tried and tested. Have some fun.I always dance when I feel demotivated. This releases endorphins or happy hormones. Dancing also reduces cortisol levels.
