How can workers fight huge corporations when companies like Uber and Lyft have such power to change laws as they see fit?

Featuring Ifeoma Ozoma and her fight for the rights of whistleblowers.

Non-disclosure agreements are used by big companies to keep disgruntled and mistreated former employees quiet. This is a problem for all of us - because whistleblowers from within companies are often the most effective vector for corporate reform.

We spoke to Ifeoma Ozoma, who had an NDA experience with Pinterest last year.

As we watch Vote Leave mandarins get bundled out of power, we can't help but wish we had a government that actually listened to other elected MPs and parties.

We're back, and this week we're looking at the issue of diversity - specifically, Black representation - in economics 💸 A field central to how we understand and organise society, it's blind spots and outdated theories entrench discrimination and disparities - but it will also be key to addressing them 🤔

We talk to Fadekemi Abiru of the Black Economist Network about the importance of Black representation in economics, her work in the field, and the role of the Black Economist Network in the UK ✊

Last week, Rowan was on I'M THE VILLAIN podcast talking about one of our favourite topics - why young people are/should be radicalized by the status quo.

Check it out!

The question is this: how can you look around, at the economy, at the presidential debates, at your social media feed, and not be radicalized? How can you live in a system that has never prioritized any kind of long term vision without feeling a sense of impending doom? In this episode, we talk with...

This week saw Starmzy's first big press conference, announcing an intention to distance himself - or at least appear to distance himself - from Corbyn. So is this the end of the Left in Labour? Is Starmer "the next Blair"? Is Labour on the road to victory, or are they now doomed?

As you might expect, the answer isn't straightforward...

This week the boys are responding to a listener request, and reviewing Starmer's performance so far. Will he continue Corbynism? Is he Blair Mk.2? Is Labour guaranteed to win under his leadership?

Big Tech platforms face some of the most complex and highly scrutinized challenges of modern politics.

We've spoken a lot about how they can and should work with regulators, politicians and civil society - but we haven't examined their internal issues nearly enough.

In this episode, we hear from a former policy lead at Pinterest whose excellent work combating health disinformation didn't stop the company from underpaying and mistreating her.

If tech companies stand a chance of solving the challenges thrown at them, they cannot afford to ignore the voices and opinions of minorities - not only because of incredible talents like Ifeoma Ozoma, but because any monocultural organisation has an incredibly limited vision of the world.

We've spoken about tech platforms failing to police their content several times before, but every so often we like to highlight successful examples. Back at the start of lockdown, we spoke about the

We're going through a truly global crisis with COVID-19.

Before that, most of us were worrying about another one - the climate crisis.

How confident are we that political parties, built for the 19th century and dwindling in importance since the 1950s, are the tool we need to tackle these problems?

If you ask our guests NOW, not very.

Our Story

We are a podcast about the future of politics.

We take a look at anything that might change political life - technology, social movements, new ideas, weird and wonderful characters and anything else that matters. This isn’t a podcast about how politics works right now, it’s about understanding where things are going.

Almost every week we have amazing guests, an in-depth feature on something we’re excited about and some forgotten stories we find deep in the bowels of Twitter or think tank websites.

Find the complete archive here along with blog posts for every episode.
