Baguio Kids Showcased their skills at the First National Judo Kata Championships

Young judokas from Baguio City demonstrated their skills on the mats during 2024 National Judo Kata Championships, held on August 31 at the Rizal Memorial Badminton Complex. Competing against top teams like UST, UE, UP, Calamba Judo Team, and Central Judo team. The Baguio delegation, consisting of five pairs aged 6 to 17, won 1 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze medals.

BAGUIO JUDO BATANG PINOY ATHLETES SHINE AT THE 41st TEAM LAKAY GRAPPLERS CUP

The Baguio Judo Batang Pinoy athletes showcased their exceptional grappling abilities at the 41st Team Lakay Grapplers Cup, held today at the YMCA of Baguio.
The young judokas earned an impressive tally of 7 golds, 5 silvers, and 2 bronzes.
Their outstanding achievements secured them the position of 2nd runner up in the overall team tally. These players are consistently training at the YMCA OF BAGUIO under the KAITAGI JUDO CLUB.

The competition is a collaborative effort between the YMCA of the City of Baguio and Team Lakay .

As the son of the CEO and head Coach of Team Lakay, I grew up in the universe of Team lakay MMA, maybe i don’t know everything but i know most of it.

First i know the sacrifices and everything that my Dad did for the team, blood, sweat and even his own wants for his own career. Lot of people wants my Dad to go down with his work but he didn’t let that happen despite focus on building the team.

My dad loves to train his student, Everyday he does his job as a coach teaching, improving not just athlete but also the aspiring ones every single day.

People talking about the 30%? Even me, i also give the 30% of my talent fee in the management, For what reason? Same with my team mates i didn’t spend even 1 peso in the gym, Not because im his son but thats what he did for all of us when we are all starting. You can’t compare with money what my Dad did everything for my career, he provides everything what i need in fighting same with my teammates.

SO YOU GUYS DONT TALK ABOUT MONEY BECAUSE IN THE FIRST PLACE WE DID THIS FOR PASSION NOT FOR MONEY.

In a world where Silence is often mistaken for weakness, the quiet man holds the power of truth amidst a sea of lies.

I don’t know why people run with a story before knowing the whole truth.

There’s been plenty of rumours about Team Lakay and the management. Although I can’t possibly tell everyone’s story. I would like to share mine.

Two years ago I left the Netherlands, I turned up at the Team Lakay gym out of nowhere, with a pair of gloves and a dream. Ever since, I’ve been enjoying the expertise of world class coaches in a world class facility. All I am able to give them in return is gratitude and commitment. Coach Mark Sangiao has never treated me differently for being a foreigner and embraced me into the family. Something I will forever be grateful for.

Eventually I will be making a good salary too, ofcourse I will share that with the people who got me there.

In any relationship there must be a balance between give and take. It is the currency of connection.

Tinanong lang ako sa interview how I managed my fighters. (Late ko na nalaman na about pala sa issue nila yun)

Here's how I do it: The manager of the team get 10 percent, the head coach/corner which is me, get 10 percent, and the striking coach gets 10 percent. 70 percent malinis sa fighter.
Thats how we do it in our team.

Sa issue naman ng Lakay at ng Lions, thats not my business. Yun lang po.

I arrived in La Trinidad with my little daughter and my pregnant wife more than a year ago. I had nothing, and Coach Mark Sangiao gave me everything. free Training, advice, supplementation, knowledge, the opportunity to be part of Team Lakay . He has even helped me financially more than once, always concerned that my children do not lack for anything. and so it is with all members of the team. He trains us, educates us martially and as people, teaches us by example, gives us his time and makes us Athletes, Martial Artists and Warriors. as we progress it is our turn to do our part and contribute so that our team continues to grow and progress... But sometimes people easily forget everything. the help you receive when it's your turn to give it back...

I've been training here in Team Lakay since 2015 and kahit PISO wala akong binayaran sa gym. Sadly, hindi po yan alam ng mga tao bago kami lumaban internationally. Kailangan muna namin ng mahabang panahon para magtraining. Wherein, Coach Mark provided lahat libreng training at libreng access sa gym. I believe na hindi magiging successful ang Team Lakay at si coach Mark kung may panlolokong nangyayari.
