When was the first time the colour purple was mentioned in the newspaper strip as being the colour of the Phantom costume? On this day in 1957 is the answer. He was portrayed as purple on comic covers before then but it was always ‘grey’ in the newspaper stories before this.

On this day in 2000, the very first Phantom newspaper story not credited to Lee Falk as the writer started. 'The Shipwreckers' was also the final Phantom story for George Olesen & Fred Fredericks. The script was originally written for a comic, but due to Lee Falk's death, it was repurposed for the newspaper strip to give Claes Reimerthi and Tony DePaul a chance to get ahead of schedule.

In the 1966/67 story "The Golden Sands of Keela-Wee" we were first introduced on this day to Emperor Joonkar who gave Keela-Wee & commissioned the Phantom’s Head to the Phantom (according to Lee Falk which contradicts Fantomen). He tends to be a character that many phans like.

On this day in 2008, the Crocco creatures were first used in the newspaper adventures, having previously been seen in three Team Fantomen stories. It was also the first time we were introduced to Captain Savarna.
