On this day in 2000, the very first Phantom newspaper story not credited to Lee Falk as the writer started. 'The Shipwreckers' was also the final Phantom story for George Olesen & Fred Fredericks. The script was originally written for a comic, but due to Lee Falk's death, it was repurposed for the newspaper strip to give Claes Reimerthi and Tony DePaul a chance to get ahead of schedule.

In the 1966/67 story "The Golden Sands of Keela-Wee" we were first introduced on this day to Emperor Joonkar who gave Keela-Wee & commissioned the Phantom’s Head to the Phantom (according to Lee Falk which contradicts Fantomen). He tends to be a character that many phans like.
