This morning LingoTed and I visited children at Castle View Primary School to talk about the European Day of Languages! The children were fantastic and could understand LOTS of Spanish and French words and they had fun singing in French too! We were blown away by their enthusiasm! 🇪🇸 🇫🇷 Bravo!

Favourite free software to help with the teaching of Computing. I know budgets are really tight at the minute. Everything seems to be costing 💰 💰. Here is a list of three of our favourite software that we use in KS2.

Nothing that breaks the bank, as I understand budgets are tight. However, I would be lost without these things. Especially when using the free software I talked about in my last post.

⭐️Easy Programming Lesson⭐️
I know how hard it can be to get Computing ticked off. There are so many reasons:
Time ❌
Equipment ❌
Knowledge ❌

Hopefully with this post you can see that technology isn’t always about being on a computer. You can feed it into other lessons very easily!
Do you have BeeBots in your school? This lesson could also be used for that too!

⭐️ Art Rage ⭐️
My children created some Egyptian sunsets using layering tools in ArtRage.
ArtRage can be downloaded for free (although you can’t save directly from it when it’s in the free version!) and is a great tool to use in KS2. It has much more realistic tools in comparison to paint. For example:
When applying two paint colours onto the canvas they will actually blend, just like real paint!

Want to learn more about how I did this? Check out my tutorial in my IGTV channel, it was based on WW2, but can be used in many different topics. Think Egyptians, Romans, Maya civilisation…. The list is endless!

⭐️Featured Game⭐️
This is one of the most popular games on our website.
When a child correctly drags the number into place, a voice will say the number out loud. This is useful for children who are learning numbers and children who are new to English.
This can be used on a large interactive whiteboard, a tablet or even for older children on a computer. Great for mouse skill practice!

Introducing our Goulden Time website, launching tomorrow!
Martin and I have been extremely busy working on our own website for the last year.
During lockdown of last year, we realised the gap in the market for educational games for pre-school children.
We designed these games around our daughter, and we have developed 20 games.
From tomorrow, the website will be free to access. There are 20 games that you can play with on interactive devices such as interactive smart boards and tablets.
They are open ended and have no hard and fast rule about how to play. That is up to the child playing it.
We have absolutely loved this journey of making this website. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

🌟Use of Technology to help with speech🌟
One of the things my children are still struggling with using is speech, even the punctuation seems tricky at the minute. We are starting back right at the beginning, by giving the children some prewritten speech to practise using the punctuation correctly.
This is a great way of using something that the children know and understand in their writing.

Hard to see some of the abuse on Twitter and other social media platforms about the educational professionals being work shy.
Just a little reminder of all the amazing things we did during lockdown 1.0 and any other time our bubbles pop!
Well done for working in one of the hardest professions, with or without a pandemic. No other job gets this much shaming and well bullying. Hold your head high, you’re doing something right. If even society thinks that we are not!
Whatever happens tomorrow, just know, you are making a difference in those children’s lives.

So today marks my last day before the Christmas holidays! I only work part time, hence the early victory dance.
We’ve been busy crafting away in Year 4 this week. Today we finished making our wreaths. These are just made from the children’s handprints.
It’s been great actually getting to do these kind of things with my class, normally we are super busy with the Christmas production.

It’s a wet and miserable day outside, so for after lunch we are doing an underwater discovery tray!
I’m sure it will only be played with for 1 minute, but it only took 2 minutes to set up!

We often get asked about how can you use the laptops more effectively in the classroom. We had the laptops for a week, and this is what we got up to.
For Literacy, we just adapted the lesson from what was already being taught.

With the return to work for some looming we thought it would be good to showcase some of our resources. Martin and I have been making resources for nearly 3 years now. We sell these on TES where we have had over 3000 downloads. Each of our resources has been tested in school and we believe are well worth having.
Some are more pricy than others, but that is because of the amount of time spent to create them and how much you can get out of it.

Getting my craft on with my machine.
I’m trying to reduce the amount of plastic I use in my displays. These banners have been cut out on thick card on my Cricut and will be hung at the top of my display boards. They should last a while before having to replace them.
Anything that I used to laminate has lasted me years. My originally lettering has been up since 2013, but it is starting to peel. I will continue to use the things I’ve laminated, but anything new I make I will be making on thick card where possible 😃
What plastic swaps are you trying to make in your classrooms? I would love some more ideas.

Handy Guide!
We did a poll a little while ago about some handy guides that you would want to see. A few people asked about some apps they could download for their class/teacher iPads. I’ve put together a list of these apps. They are all free to download (although some have in app purchases as well) on your apple device. They are all also available on Android devices as well.
A variety of apps to suit different subjects.

Here is out next handy shortcuts guide.
Some of these are brilliant. Like how many times have you accidentally left caps lock on to then realise and have to retype it all. Well now you know how to change it back to lowercase. Just as simple as shift + F3.
