Pat Calliotte passed away on this day 12 years ago...She was one of the original owners and founders of News From Indian Country... She deserves way more credit then she has ever gotten for all the blood, sweat and tears she sacrificed throughout her life for all she did while growing the company and serving Indian Country...she gave her all up until the day she passed away...she was tough as nails...a true mentor! She taught me so much...so many tough lessons... In the beginning, she intimidated me, scared me, was so tough that she brought me to tears on almost a daily basis... through the years she frustrated me and at times even angered me but through it all, I learned so much from her, I grew to respect her and love her! In the beginning I was so afraid of her and felt like she was always putting me down when in reality, she was toughening me up to build me up so when that day came when she felt I was ready, like a momma bird she pushed me out of the nest and instead of falling, I flew...

I met Rosie Hamilton 22 years ago at one of Loretta Lynn's concerts. After the show I did my very first interview with Loretta...we talked for hours. That interview is framed and hanging in Loretta's Museum in Hurricane Mills, TN...during the grand opening of her museum many years later, Loretta invited me down there and gave me a private personal tour...and she was so proud to show me my interview hanging in her museum...I'll never forget that day! Just Loretta, her photographer and myself...before she opened to the public...

For many years after that first interview...Rosie always let me know when they were in Wisconsin so that I could visit with her and Loretta...my youngest son don't remember it but when he was little he ran around on Loretta's tour bus and even pretended to drive it.... lol 😂! Good times...it has been forever since we got to visit...life seems to get in the way of time with good friends...but there isn't a day goes by they aren't in my thoughts and prayers.

I can't wait for Rosie's book to come out. I'm the first to donate here and I hope to be the first to purchase her book. This is what friends do...they support each other and be proud of their successes in life. I love you Rosie and remember I'm here to help if you need 💖

Please help Rosie with her dream of writing this book about her friendship with Loretta, by making a donation here...no amount is too small...

The Jingle Dress is celebrating 100 years. “The jingle dress dance is an Ojibwe tradition, one that empowered women a century ago, during a global health crisis,” said Brenda J. Child, Red Lake Ojibwe and Northrop professor of American studies and American Indian studies at the University of Minnesota.

To learn more about the “Ziibaaska’ iganagooday: The Jingle Dress at 100,” checkout an exhibit on display through Oct. 31, 2020 at Mille Lacs Indian Museum and Trading Post.

The following short documentary of Becky Taylor sharing the story of the 'jingle dress,' was filmed at "The Landing" on the Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe Reservation in northern Wisconsin.

Help us honor our Culture and Traditions... celebrating the Jingle Dress... Enjoy and Share :)!
