I still feel like I'm living in Bizarre-o-land some days (kind of like the Matrix but now I know that it's the Matrix) 😜 In this final episode of Season 1 of the B’joyed Podcast I share what I am taking away from the pandemic situation. My experiences and reflections through this time has led me down an exciting new journey as a Personal Coach. 🙌💪🏼💗

Inspired by the folks in my hometown of Kendallville, Indiana that participated in cruising town this past weekend to promote unity and support amongst the community while still social distancing. Being from a small town, cruising was a way to socialize when I was younger. I remember begging my best friend’s older sister to drive us a couple loops around town when we were in 8th grade (we thought we were so cool 😎)! People that participated had such positive things to say about sharing the experience with their kids and the excitement of seeing other people out and about smiling and having a good time. 💗

Challenge: Stumbled upon my three oldest kids quietly coloring a Jesus coloring book together. Not sure it gets much more heartwarming than that 💗 The last 4+ weeks my kids have definitely argued, wrestled, and tattled on each other multiple times (a day). They’ve also played adventures, cuddled, laughed uncontrollably, stood up for each other, and worked out their differences using their words. It has been pure joy seeing them bond together during this time. This is the beautiful stuff I don’t want to forget when things go back to “normal” and I also don’t want to stop.

Challenge: I am 3+ weeks postpartum but with everything going on in the world and that has happened in my personal life lately I am feeling an extreme pull to process the current situation and move forward through creative outlets. I'm also feeling tired, foggy, unfocused, frustrated, irritable, and anxious. I understand many of these feelings are normal feelings after having a baby. However, I imagine many people living through and trying to navigate this COVID-19 reality we are living in may also be feeling these things (even without the postpartum hormones and caring for a newborn). We are all facing unprecedented situations - working from home while taking care of kids, dealing with loss of a job, a loss of identity and normalcy, quarantined alone and struggling to stay motivated, and dealing with sickness or even death of a loved
one. I am struggling to work through some of these things as many of you are. I am finding some comfort in identifying my thoughts/emotions and writing them down. I am finding motivation in working towards my creative outlets. I'm moving slower than I would like but I'm hopeful that the joy I feel when I put my energy into creative outlets will be a beautiful result of this whole experience. Now, more than ever, I want to choose the beauty and the joy.

You all - made my day when she encouraged her email list to listen to .podcast during these crazy times. It really means so much to see the podcast is providing value to other people (especially when I myself am feeling uncertain and out of our control at times). Below are some of the uplifting words that Rose provided to her followers. Rose is offering a FREE Minimalism 101 Webinar next Tuesday, 24 March, to anyone that wants to declutter your home and open up physical and mental space during this overwhelming time. If you're interested, check out the link in her bio or go to https://roselounsbury.com/webinar/.

"If you're like me, the coronavirus has you a bit on edge. (That may be an understatement...) Store shelves devoid of toilet paper, grocery checkout lines that stretch to the back, and schools closed for the rest of the month.

There is a very real temptation to give in to all of this and start to panic. But I encourage you, my dear readers, to take a step back and think about how this time might allow us to slow down and focus on what really matters: our loved ones, our health, the incredible and precious gift of each day we're allowed to walk this earth.

And if, after that bit of calming contemplation, you find yourself stuck in your home more often than you'd like, I'd encourage you to use this time to think about those bigger ideas that often get lost in the day-to-day hustle and bustle of normal life.

So I thought today I'd share some of my favorite podcast interviews with you...

The B'Joyed Podcast - Confession... I rarely listen to podcast episodes I'm on. I already know everything I said and I'm often asked similar questions. But I listened to EVERY SINGLE MINUTE of this one. I recorded it with my friend Amber Pecoraro, and it focuses on finding joy by creating more physical and mental space. This episode goes waaaaay beyond just looking at our physical stuff, and delves into how simplicity creates the mental space necessary for joy. I dare you to listen and not feel happier as a result!" - Rose Lounsbury

Challenge: The current situation we are all facing has left my control-loving self feeling like I'm losing it at different times during the day. Let's face it - we can't control some of the things that are happening around us right now. Therefore, I'm trying to take solace in what I can control. Thankfully, I have a supportive husband who understands we are in prime "nesting" time (baby boy is due in 4.5 weeks come hell, high-water, or coronavirus!) and he helped me create a fun space for the kids at the top of our staircase landing this weekend. It really has been a joy seeing the kids use it the last several days and it allowed me to get my mind off the craziness around me and use my creativity towards something I've been wanting to do since we moved into this house 5+ years ago. Shout out to my girl Terri .home who unknowingly inspired me to put this space together. I didn't realize my former college teammate is a home decor inspirational bada$$ until I first got on Instagram 4 months ago. Not only does she provide home decor ideas in her highlights and stories, but she is hilarious/fun-loving and always has been 💗 Also check-out haven_designs_419 as she designed the letter board in this space which I LoVE and will be having fun with while we are physically socially distancing! Do something this week that makes you feel good! Much love 💕🙌

Challenge: There is no place like home (and holding hands with my little dude on the couch💕)! My family and I have been traveling for work and a wedding over this last week. Both were productive, fun, and an adventure but this home-body is glad to be home with her family (mostly) unpacked. 🤣 Do you like to travel or are you a home-body that would rather a staycation??

10/02/2020

Challenge: In "The Joy of Missing Out" book I've been reading .i.dalton talks about how we can set ourselves up for failure and feelings of guilt if we set expectations of things we must get done in a 24 hour day. Because if you don't get it done that day, you have to move it to the next day, and already feel behind. Rather, plan the things you want to accomplish over an entire week. That way, you can move essential tasks that need to get done as life happens rather than constantly feeling behind on what doesn't get done on the "to do list". And let's be honest - for those that are like me that like to put it on the list just to check it off, I also tend to feel not as accomplished if I have to move my undone tasks to the next day. I really like the freedom and flexibility this 168 hrs vs. 24 hrs to tackle essential tasks provides. And for those of you that aren't list makers (*cough* my hubby) and are not prisoners to your own mind and expectations, this may not be helpful to you.....but for those like myself, let's embrace the 168 hrs! I'm trying it out. I last posted for the bjoyedtoday Challenge last Thursday....it's Monday. I've had no lack of intention to choose joy - thoroughly enjoyed some sledding time with my babies and my parents in the snow, a couple nights of some awesome full moons, the excitement of my 4 year old uncovering fossils in his muddy fossil kit "look what I found mom!" (💗 explosion), and making Valentines with my kids for their classes. I also gave myself more realistic expectations which is joy in of itself. So far, 168 hrs, heck even 72 hrs, I am a believer! If you're a list-maker like myself and get a little twinge when you have to move daily tasks to another day, try giving yourself a break! Try extending your own BS (true ☝️) timeline of 24 hrs for tasks across more days and let me know what you think!

Day 34 of Challenge: Staying connected with the hubby. Neither of us are phone people especially when in different time zones and crazy kiddos around. But tonight we had a decently long conversation and it was nice to catch each other up on everything that’s been going on. Relationships take work but I’m thankful to have someone that’s willing to work with me 💕😘

Day 33 of Challenge: Went for a walk in the 60+ degree weather in the middle of Winter 🙌 Normally I like to listen to podcasts while I walk (one of my happy places) but today I didn’t listen to anything but the peace, calm of nature around me. It was truly refreshing to let my mind wonder in the silence. Just me. Walking. Calm... until some little minions found me and then it became very important to “...take pictures of these beautiful rocks!” Why yes it is my dear 💗 ....... PS I cleaned out my frig today too so you know it’s a good day 🤘🏼

Wow can’t believe we made it to Day 30! of the Challenge. Some days really have been a challenge but today having some one on one time with my little guy was lots of smiles and laughs... grocery store, made blueberry pancakes for dinner, and cuddled in mom’s bed to watch a show. Now that’s my kind of date night! This challenge really has made me conscious about seeking joy every day. Especially those days I really need to 🙏🏽💕

Day 27 of Challenge: Anyone feel more sad than you're used to feeling, or more anxious, or angrier than normal?? I have been feeling this way during many times over the course of this pregnancy. I've had three other pregnancies before this and definitely felt pregnancy hormones. But for some reason this pregnancy has been at a whole another level with my state of emotions.

In Episode 6 .podcast when I introduced the Challenge, I said there would be some days that are harder than others to intentionally choose joy. Today is one of those days for me. I cried several times this morning for "no good" reason. I had my regularly scheduled Dr's appointment (now 29 weeks) where I planned to discuss my elevated state of emotions and ask for a referral to talk to somebody. I broke down during the appointment trying to explain what I've been feeling. It's hard to explain even to myself because I have such a great life with an awesome family and support system. Some days are great and then I've just been having these other days that aren't. I'm looking forward to talking to a professional to see if it will help move this in a more positive direction.

If anyone else has felt or is feeling this way just know you are not alone. Sending love and saying prayers for you and for me 🙏🏽💗

24/01/2020

Day 24 of Challenge: Finding out there is nothing wrong with me! 🙌 Just finished the book by that I picked up in the Orlando airport last weekend. If you're a woman (or deal with women) I suggest picking this one up. It focuses on Gen Xers but any woman before and after that generation can take away several things from the book. The author goes into statistics but also many one on one interviews with Gen X women with various socioeconomic situations. It is very interesting to think about the societal norms (including advertisements, TV shows, what we were taught, what influences us) we have grown up with and how that has shaped who we are and what we let effect us. The fact that younger generations of women have had more opportunities than the older Baby Boomer generation and that those opportunities were turned into expectations - i.e. you have the opportunity for multiple children, be a wife, be the boss at work, and lead a healthy lifestyle so now you have to do all of those things and excel at them.... Hormones are also a thing people! And I'm not just feeling them because I'm pregnant :). One of the biggest takeaways for me towards the end of the book was when the author says "...Almost every story I've heard of a Gen X woman pulling herself out of a midlife crisis has involved, in one way or another, the letting go of expectations." So today I'm letting go of some expectations I had set for myself - planned to workout, scratch that (going to take a nap instead!) - planned to do research for the podcast, scratch that (going to hang out with my husband) - planned to make dinner, scratched (leftovers or scrambled eggs!)

What expectations of yourself are you going to let go of today? This weekend??
