The more comfortable we get with being uncomfortable, the more the world opens up. If we hold ourselves back from doing things that we’re bad at, we might never find our next passion or meet someone that will change the course of our lives or discover the missing piece at work.

This is true for many areas including relationships, health, happiness, career and in business as well.

If you’re struggling to find happiness at work, start trying new things that you might be bad at. And if you’re starting something new and are feeling discouraged, remember that everyone starts somewhere!

Experts are only beginners with lots of experience and progress is not a straight line. Rather it often starts slow and hits an inflection point where you suddenly see exponential growth. You’ve got this!

Selling isn’t a one size fits all proposition. I’m not telling you anything new when I say — the more you know about your prospect, the better the experience for all concerned.

But for many of us — in this world of social media, consumer driven content and a 24/7 world — we start talking to our customers before they’re even on the radar screen as a customer. They’re aware of us long before we’re aware of them.

How do you make sure you’re talking to them about what matters? One of my favorite ways is to create personas…not based on their buying style but based on who they are and what they care about.

Seth believes “marketing is no longer about the stuff that you make, but about the stories you tell.”

Marketing is ever changing and today selling the product has become more about the connections you create. With all the choices there are today it is hard to make your brand stand out.

Godin believes that people care about themselves and by tweeting, commenting, sharing posts from certain brands it is more about the reflection of them and not necessarily about the brand. He said “It costs something to give companies attention and people are not going to give their attention just because a company bought a full-page ad in the newspaper.” Some how that particular brand has made an emotional impact on them enough to grab attention.

New Instagram feature alert!

Instagram rolled out pinned comments on posts as part of a larger effort to combat bullying on the platform. This feature allows users to highlight positive sentiments and, hopefully, encourage more of the same.

Instagram lets you pin up to three comments. This feature has the potential to add a whole other level of engagement to Instagram posts.

Pinned comments can be especially helpful in situations where a user is getting an abundance of mean or inappropriate comments. Users can pin a positive comment to the top of a post and bury the negativity.

That’s how pinned comments fit in with Instagram’s anti-bully efforts, but it can be an effective marketing tactic as well. With pinned comments,’you can let others do the marketing for you. Think of each positive comment as a testimonial and pin the best ones to the top.
