We've moved!
We aim to document and distribute sonic ideas and events from ethnic to electronic to experimental.
We've moved!
Smogada Records is leaving the Funk Hole, which has been its studio for more than four years.*
The Ortigas-based studio got its name from its bunker-like structure as well as from a section in its shelves dedicated to Sly and the Family Stone records.
The Funk Hole housed the production, mixing, and mastering sessions of the Ortigas Excursions EP. Its windowless walls have also witnessed the demo-making of Kristian Dalao's The Love Tracks, an in-progress album whose mixing and mastering we are doing in the mountains.
On this note, we say so long to Ortigas Center, our place of exile (and excursions) for more than a decade.
*A belated post

Kristian Dalao has cut eight demo tracks for the EP tentatively titled Loverkind.
It is the follow-up to Ortigas Excursions (OEx) and is supposed to be an ode of sorts to loverhood.
Dalao's OEx conspirators Marren Adan and Jeba Angeles are writing the fiction and creating the illustrations, respectively, in another music-literature-art affair in the form of an EP–zine joint. It should be out next year.

"Talahimay" is a mash-up of Excursions in Ugong's "Hinay Himay (Closed-Down Factory Spring Night)" (from Drum Machine Elegies EP) and Kristian Dalao's "Isang Malawak na Talahiban Daw ang Ortigas Noon" (from Ortigas Excursions EP aka OEx). It comes out with Marren Araña Adan's flash fic piece Ang Musa Kung Hatinggabi and Jeba Angeles' illustration loosely called Ang Talahimaw.

A Rough Guide to Ugong
This flash(ing/y) drive contains Ortigas Excursions (OEx) EP—all six original audio tracks—in both FLAC and MP3.
The EP, with the OEx zine (corresponding fiction stories and illustrations, and a socio-political map of Ortigas Center), provides a sort of rough guide to this so-called central business district.
Limited copies of this "guide" are available at the OEx launch as Komura; Creators Grant Winner on February 29, 2020, from 1:30 PM onward at Where is Kwago?
Kudos to Komura; for seeing/helping realize the potential of the project in all its rawness.

One OEx for Oldie / Happy New Year
¡Felicitaciones a los tres bastardos! De tu familia Smogada.
It's official! We are excited to announce that Marren Adan & Val Angeles & Kristian Dalao won this year's Komura; Creators Grant with their zine entitled "ORTIGAS EXCURSIONS Katha + Sounds."
Summary of Zine: The creators of this zine comprise of three individuals working for the same company in Ortigas. One wrote the stories, one created a soundtrack for the collection, and one will provide the lay-out, design, and illustrations.
Since the overarching concept of this zine is to map-out Ortigas in the perspective of a working class through words, sounds, and illustrations, we are planning to take actual shots of pertinent sites in Ortigas (Pasig City) where each story in the collection happens. Each shot will be rendered as black-and-white sketch by our artist and will be placed at the bottom page of each story. We are still conceptualizing how the lay-out can be more inspired by maps— that is, if one actually puts all the illustrations from different pages together, one can actually create a map of Ortigas (since we are also fans of maps!) The zine includes a cd for the stories’ sounds. Each story has a sound element so the reader can either experience what the character hears in the story or heighten the perception of the narrative through listening to these sounds too!
Congratulations to this talented collective!
Thank you to everyone who submitted their crazy zine ideas to us this year! This award is dedicated to the vibrant DIY and independent publishing community that inspire us to keep creating despite issues and problems like funding and other resources.
We hope to see more of others' brilliant ideas come to life. Stay tuned for our next Creators Grant! Stay tuned for the official launch early next year!

Hi. Welcome to Smogada (population: between mono and 10,000).
----------
An Original Photocopy Project (with Sound)
Kristian Dalao (aka Dalao) is working in collaboration with fictionist Marren Adan and artist Jeba Angeles on an original photocopy project (with sound!) for this year's Better Living Through Xeroxography (BLTX).
The EP/zine project Ortigas Excursions is to feature six Dalao audio tracks, which are "influenced by and created within Ortigas Center and intermixed with samples of field recordings/found sounds made in different areas of the district." Adan pens "one corresponding flash fiction for each track using a working class’ lens" while Angeles provides corresponding illustrations about his perception of the tracks and the stories.
Ortigas Excursions is out on December 14, 2019, at BLTX Manila IX, 305 Tomas Morato Avenue, QC, from 7PM to 1AM (EP [CD format] on Smogada Records).
