"The Atheist world view is centered on its interpretation of science; a philosophy known as scientism. Scientism holds that only those things verifiable by the scientific method may said to be true. Of course this is a primary assumption on their part; and ironically an assumption that cannot be vindicated by science. Atheism must contend that Metaphysical Naturalism is the only true way to interpret science. Because of this Atheism needs to propagate another myth; that being that science and faith are incompatible. Atheist will often present the false dichotomy that a person must choose to either embrace science or that they must reject science and embrace their religious views. However there is no reason whatsoever that a person must chose to be an Atheist in order to em brace the disciplined methodology of science. There are in fact many brilliant minds throughout history who have been both dedicated scientists and devout people of faith. Men such as Sir Isaac Newton, Galileo Galilei and Robert Boyle contributed tremendously to science, while at the very same time maintaining their faith in the Creator. Speaking of the grandeur of the solar system Newton says “this most beautiful system of the sun, planets and comets, could only proceed from the counsel and dominion of an intelligent and powerful Being.” Robert Boyle, one of the fathers of modern chemistry states "God may rationally be supposed to have framed so great and admirable an automaton as the world, for several ends and purposes." Galileo Galilei says "I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use." These men were scientist expressly because they believed that the cosmos has been created by an intelligent mind and that they had been given the gift of intellect in order to understand that universe. They believed that the universe was rational, and could be understood. That mankind had a higher calling to understand his environment and to use that knowledge for the betterment of all. If anything their faith enhanced their scientific endeavors, it certainly did not hinder them." (Myth #3: Science and Faith are Incompatible, pg 31)
Atheist Myths? Sounds like an oxymoron. Atheists tend to pride themselves in being free from myth and superstition. They insist that their personal view of the universe is the true and rational view. A view free of faith and the type of mythology present in the various religious teachings of huma...
