Turned Clouds
Hey guys, Noa writing, and I recently had the privilege of talking over the phone with Peter Anspach and Rick Mitarotonda of Goose (one of the bands playing at Java this Saturday). Peter is also a member of the band Great Blue, which performed a lit gig last semester, a personal favorite of mine actually. Returning to our campus alongside the veterans of Goose, Pete has had a road of hard work on tour this year, as he essentially learned to play his part as keyboardist while touring. Rick revealed that he has friends that are both SLU Alumni and ex-Java staff! Goose itself is pretty diverse in its sonic repertoire, with roots in funk and folk that branch out into rock, reggae, jazz and blues. Their latest album, Moon Cabin, shows off this diversity. If you're looking for something folky check out their track Rosewood Heart, for something funky check out Jive I, and for something with the reggae spirit check out Indian River. Hell, treat yourself and just listen through the entire album! You'll be pleasantly surprised by Goose's ability to fuse genre's into a unique and signature sound, a great example conveniently being the first track of the album. Most importantly Goose is made up of great guys that want to share a good time with us all, as they took the extra time they had to have this conversation with me. Rick and Pete had a lot of insights as career musicians to share with me, and so expect a comprehensive article on that published soon. Lastly, Pete wanted to make sure you guys know there will be a "crazy" surprise during the show, so don't miss it! I'll be there to find out too. Anyway, here is a link to the first track of their album for your convenience: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wu1QuTW-w1w&list=PLbcvPe2vyRcAJ9hm1OihGegCakF4FsxeM
