The African States Bowls Tournament came to end in the heart of Windhoek, Namibia. South Africa won the overall gold men in the men’s competition with Botswana taking silver and Namibia bronze.
In the Ladies the South Africans once again took the overall gold medal with Namibia taking silver and Zimbabwe bronze.
Despite extremely cold weather, which some days delayed play due to ice forming on the greens, the players had a wonderful tournament and play was outstanding.
The tournament was a huge success and it is with pride we note that the level of bowls played was exceptional and massive improvement was seen in the ladies play.
The Namibian Bowling Association with the assistance of the AST Tournament Committee ensured that all players and guests had a fantastic tournament. One of the highlights every morning for the Namibian Ladies team was their supported, JR Vermeulen. JR was at the bowls green every morning to carry the ladies bags as well as select every wood that would be used during the days’ play. JR was one of the staunch supporters for the Namibian Ladies.
The Zone XI AGM was also held while all countries were in Namibia and it is with great pleasure that the next AST will be held in Botswana next year.
