SERIES FINALE
Ep.67 - The Pack AD
Audio download - https://bit.ly/3O6W11U

I caught up with Becky & Maya at Club Saw this past Saturday night. Based on our conversation in this podcast, I decided to put together a quick PACK "best of" playlist. Very quickly it got up to 28 songs

https://spoti.fi/3xnCm80

Honestly, listen to the playlist and try to figure out why these songs (especially from Unpersons through It Was Fun While It Lasted) aren't all over Canadian Rock & Alternative Radio???? Hit the like button on all those songs too

Thanks for listening, watching, supporting
Much Love

FINAL PODCAST COMING!

The definitive end to Darryl Talks To Bands will be recorded this Saturday (April 9th) with Becky & Maya of The Pack AD

This potentially being their last tour/album it seemed very fitting to wrap up the series this way, as I've been a longtime fan.

My professional life has taken on a completely new direction, and I feel like I've contributed what I could to Canadian Rock, which I love. What can I say, ;-)

This version of "Give Up" was included in Episode 13 with Maya, back then everything was audio only, this video was never shared and was recorded just a few months into the pandemic

Stay tuned for more details

Before Kurt made this song really popular with the MTV unplugged performance, his friend Mark Lanegan recorded it in 1990.

The news of Marks passing just hit me like a ton of bricks. What a legend 😢

Amazing version of the Lead Belly song. The best cover, in my honest opinion, very dark and meaningful. I don't own any rights to this music.

Punk Rock & Politics - https://youtu.be/ZG0QtsQhbaU

One of the people I wanted to interview while planning this podcast series, without question was Strombo. This is another episode where I get to interview a remarkable interviewer. Like Alan Cross Official, or CFNY founder David Marsden. All of whom, shared some amazing stories in this series.

George and I talked about 102.1 The Edge in this episode. He was colleagues with some of my mentors there, including the late Martin Streek Tribute. In fact the last time I saw George in person was at the Opera House for a celebration in honour of Martin.

We also discussed the Danko Jones / Monster Truck issue, which I weighed in on, based on an episode done with Jon Harvey. This led in to an important chat about where we are in North America in 2022. Which only left me thinking, are politics in George's future? In an official capacity?

With George out on the West Coast, I thought we were talking at 6pm PT, so I didn't even write out questions or set up the light I usually use for video podcasts. But with George, I'm kind of glad we just hit record and go.

The biggest star to guest on has got to be Taylor Momsen, lead Rock Star of The Pretty Reckless. This episode was done before video versions of each episode really became the focus. As just an audio podcast, it's the most downloaded of the series.

This was a fun, but also somewhat heavy chat that included some discussion about her late friend Chris Cornell

I'd like to expand on what was posted earlier in regards to the Danko Jones / Monster Truck feud.

Much respect to BOTH artists

I’ll start this post by echoing the sentiments of F**K RACISM, that I’ve seen all over social media this past weekend. Twitter mostly. It stems back to DANKO JONES calling out JON HARVEY of MONSTER TRUCK for the collaboration with KID ROCK and the tone of the reworking of DONT TELL ME HOW TO LIVE...

Ok... time for some real talk. Kid Rock & Monster Truck - Don't Tell Me How To Live

It's been interesting to sit back and watch people freak out over the last week because one of Canada's beloved hard rock bands collaborated with the sometimes reprehensible Kid Rock.

So what???

Let me tell you what I know about JD Harvey. One of the most chill/easy going dudes you could ever meet. There's zero hate in the man's heart, despite what Danko Jones might try and tell you.

Danko... Hold up, WAIT A MINUTE

I personally don't agree with Kid Rock's politics, nor do I own a Kid Rock CD. BUT, are you gonna go and "cancel" Metallica because "American Bad Ass" uses the music from "Sad But True"?? didn't think so, so lay off JD/Monster Truck

Listen to our podcast that was recorded in the days following the murder of George Floyd.

Judge the man on his words, not a Rock song.

Monster Truck front man Jon Harvey talks about the state of the world in 2020 (this interview was done shortly following the murder of George Floyd), his new solo project J.Harvey & The Inner Demons, we'll listen to the first 3 songs, and we get some insight in to the next Monster Truck record.

***PODCAST UPDATE***
In the words of one of my favourite bands (and guests)...

It Was Fun While It Lasted

On October 21st, DTTB is proud to be a presenting partner for Revive the Rose at Bronson Centre Music Theatre and I'll be recording the final episode of at the venue

This was a tough decision, but to do this properly it takes a team and I've got another opportunity that I'm going to pursue that I'm super excited about.

I'm really proud of this body of work. When I started the podcast I had never done any work with video, at all. So, I got to learn some great skills along the way. With that, I decided to start a podcast production and consulting service called Spring Pod. I'm proud of some great work that's coming with the team over at Indie Week and another project that is still in development.

I want to thank all of my guests. I love music, I love Rock and I love Canadian Rock.

I want to thank Dean Blundell for the support from Day 1. What an incredible podcast network!!!

For those in Ottawa that continue to push the thing. That was a movement that I started. It came from a pure place in what now seems like an entirely different life. Now, its a sales package

Whether they like it or not, that's my legacy here :-)

If you discovered a new band or got to hear a conversation that you enjoyed with artists you knew, this podcast accomplished it's mission.

What a list of guests, THANK YOU!

Here's something from the studios for the summer break. A huge part of my love of music stems from DJ'ing.

I started messing around and ended up with a mashed up mixtape at 90bpm called 'Unorthodox Styles'

The Glorious Sons have established themselves as a force in Canadian Rock n' Roll. As someone who got to see them in the early days in Kingston, their success isn't a surprise.

They're back with new music and have been producing it themselves during lockdown.

The best part is that they've achieved everything as an independent band on their own terms

It looks as if things will finally start opening up here in Ontario as of Friday. Better late than never I guess. If you’ve followed along at all, you’ve probably noticed that I’m based out of Ottawa. We thought it was kind of ridiculous when they announced a curfew across the bridge in Quebec...

Deadset Society went platinum, then went on hiatus. In the downtime, the remaining members formed the band Tense Machine.

Meanwhile, Deadset frontman Reid David Henry has released some solo material, I got to catch up with him to talk about that, being a Dad and the stress of being a Leaf fan
