Most of us don’t feel beautiful enough, thin enough, curvy enough. We keep finding faults with our looks and keep comparing ourselves to the perfect images in the media. This tendency affects our mental health and can even have serious impacts in some cases. But what if someone has a condition which limits their mobility but they overcome it and do big things! We can do lots of things instead of being stuck on what we can’t change and yes this goes for everything. Shilpa Mehta Jain was diagnosed with 94% PPRP Post Polio Residual Paralysis in both the lower limbs with Scoliosis when she was just 2 months old but that hasn’t stopped her from achieving everything she aimed for. From swimming to driving, she does it independently and with dedication. She is the CFO of Shantilal C Mehta. She has done so much despite suffering from a disability. When I asked her what term I should use when I talk about her condition, she said it doesn’t matter. Disabled, differently abled, specially abled or anything else, such labels don’t matter to her because she is more than that. Tune in for today’s dose of inspiration. Pausing during the day is essential and it brings reflection, peace, self love, in short Growth.I am used to rushing, moving mindlessly from one task to another. Household chores and childcare have always been considered a woman's relam with men showing up at their whim. It continues to be like that even today and add to that the need for a male's validation for things that are considered a woman's job. Yes, there are exceptions but they're too few.
Such patriarchal ads perpetuate these ideas and are made even today when the dynamics are changing faster than ever. If you think that ads don't matter, think again.
To make you think, I am bringing this topic on Little Fixes- A discussion about women’s representation in Indian Ads featuring Relina D’Silva, Head of Marketing at Upliance. Join us on 5th April on your podcast app.
What are your thoughts on women's portrayal in India ads?

We might have heard and joked about mood swings, hot flashes and more but not many of us understand this phase of our lives. Perimenopause mostly starts in late 40s or early 50s but in some women it begins in late 30s too.
Due to lots of hormonal changes, it’s essential that we learn about it and prepare our body to deal with this phase.
To discuss Perimenopause, I have Dr. Esha Chainani with me. Dr. Esha is a Non-judgemental Gynaecologist making health, reproductive education and sex-ed easily accessible through her platform Prema Health

On Little Fixes, we constantly talk about mental health. I have spoken to experts and have shared my experiences but in this episode, I’m talking to a person who dealt with a mental health issue very few of us know about.I am speaking with Captain Ritu Kumar Singh. She is an ex-Indian Army Officer, TEDx speaker and a women’s health and fitness coach specialising in pregnancy and post natal fitness. She is an accomplished, inspiring woman and people look up to her. She is known as the brave girl but in 2022 she went through a life changing event. She experienced depersonalization derealization disorder (DDD or DPDR) even though everything in her life seemed to be going fine. It’s supposed to be a very rare condition.According to Mayo clinic- “Depersonalization-derealization disorder occurs when you persistently or repeatedly have the feeling that you're observing yourself from outside your body or you have a sense that things around you aren't real, or both.". Sounds scary, right? I can’t even imagine what a person experiencing DDD goes through. It’s a sensitive topic but I urge you to tune in and understand that different types of mental health issues are real. This talk might also give you some tools to help yourself and others.
Episode 101 went live today but instead of a clip from it, I am posting the intro of Little Fixes here because the podcast is back after a break and this will refresh your memory of it :)In this short, solo episode, I talk about how the last year went and what are some of the things I want to do this year. This episode is ‘snack for thought’ for you and there’s a lot coming your way in 2023 on Little Fixes. There’s also a sweet, little guest in this episode. Let’s catch up over a hot cuppa 😀.#indianpodcasts #indianpodcasters #indianwomenpodcasters
For the 100th episode, the topic had to be close to my heart and something more and more people need to be aware of. So, today we’ll talk about the need for psychotherapy. Many people believe that you don’t need therapy if you are close to your family and friends. Many others simply dismiss the existence of mental illnesses and look down on therapy. We’ll be breaking myths and providing clarity in this episode- my guest is Saachi Agrawal who is my therapist too.Saachi is a Clinical Psychologist, Certified Trauma Expert and a Suicide First Responder.Saachi will tell us-- what happens in therapy- why it is needed and why can’t we just talk to people close to us- what to excerpt from therapy, benefits of taking psychotherapy- what to ask a therapist before hiring themIt’s a deep discussion you will take away a lot from.
Self-care has been talked about a lot but despite it being overdone, I don’t think that many people understand it and that includes me. We see, various versions of self-care on social media and even feel guilty if we aren't able to do it. But what exactly is self-care and how do we do it?In this episode, you will get clarity about this. I am talking to Ipsita Chatterjee who is a consultant psychologist and the founder of Thehraav- unwind your mind. Thehraav works with individuals, couples and families in therapy. Ipsita will tell us--What is self-care-Where did the term come from (you might be surprised)-Layers of self-care-Do beauty treatments count as self care-How to take care of our mental healthTune in to Little Fixes Podcast on your Podcast app.#littlefixespodcast #mentalhealthindia
