🪩 🧘‍♀️ 🏖️

This time last week I had just landed in Ibiza for Yoga Retreat with my partner in craic not long after me too.

A long weekend spent in a beautiful place, with beautiful people. Mesmerising practises, lots of rest whenever it felt like it was needed and of course a belting night out in Pikes - closed off with a sunrise beer on the beach.

Hotel: 😍
Villa: 🫶🏼

Highly recommend both - Mongibello - a concept hotel fully immersed into 60's Almalfi Coast styling - it rescues the quintessence of the 'Dolce Far Niente' (The Art of Doing Nothing) and it's absolutely stunning. Every detail accounted for - but comfortable too.

And the Villa. Well that was just wow. Practising yoga overlooking the ocean - the perfect spot. It was like it was made for Stacey and Phil.

Heart feeling so full and feeling so recharged mentally.

Love a safe, special place.

Wine pairings. They are getting their own spot on the grid. That delicious and that perfectly matched with each course.

I'm categorically not a wine enthusiast, I simply don't know enough about wines myself to ever select one that's completely delicious. And honestly any time I drink wines I have myself clearly, I select wrongly and end up with the worst headaches the next day. So when there's a wine pairing and I can leave that expertise to a qualified sommelier - I always take it. The first visit we had to A Restaurant Where the Light Gets In - the wines blew us away then too, so it was a no brainer.

However, last nights storytelling brought it up a notch and I felt like it worked so perfectly to create the sharing plates atmosphere - each wine was selected by producers they know. Each have had their own struggles - be it adapting to severe climate change, navigating their way through a farming industry accelerating in pesticides, bottle shapes and production to transport the wine - so may different stories about challenges and survival but at the fore of each - the committed desire to produce perfection - no compromise - quality only and the results - deliciousness.

A very special mention from me for that first one - the Matassa - like drinking a caprese salad with fresh basil. Divine. We also had a delicious dessert wine - which so perfectly brought the dessert together - notes of lychee and rose without being too over the top. Really cut through the sticky dates and nuttiness of the dessert. Oh, and the wine with the cheese! 3 GORGEOUS cheeses - a nutty mild one, a soft creamy goats cheese and the most perfect melting blue ever.

Gah! They were heaven! Loved it!

What a brilliant addition to .

I always get excited when there's a tiny simple menu and this one did not disappoint.

Snacks, appetisers, mains, dessert. About 4 options for each course - everything kept simple letting the quality of the produce speak for itself.

What we ate:

Nibbles: the whole menu 😂 addictive smoked almonds, gorgeous juicy oily olives, panelle - Sicilian chickpea fritters and gorgeous soft bread slathered in butter

Starters:
Chicken terrine (delicately seasoned with a punchy mustard)
Mussels with fregola pearls
And the star for me - the peaches and tomatoes with lardon - the perfect summer starter plate. Fresh, sweet and balanced with a vinaigrette to bring it all together - just divine.

Mains:
Whole plaice - kept simple with lemon and olive oil - I actually thought this was lovely. It wasn't fussy - it was just a great big quality piece of fish
Cod - this was the star main though - served with chard and an almond pastis sauce / puree - brought it altogether in the most stunning way. A real delight.

Desserts:
We tried the apricot and chocolate sorbets and the cheese plate - all were heaven.

I just can't wait to go back. Attentive, lovely staff, a menu that sings to the seasonal produce and kept simple - not fussy - and a price that is so bang on reasonable.

Great to have a restaurant on the block offering this level of quality food at accessible prices. Great atmosphere and interior too. It was comfortable and casual but felt special.

LOVE. Can't wait to go again.
