For his birthday this year, I took my brother Joel to RTN Studios to record a song of his choice. We had a few goes at writing something together, but ultimately we kept coming back to this song as he loves singing along whenever I play it in his presence.

For Christmas, he gets the final mastered song and an accompanying music video. Please share around as my brother has an incredible voice that deserves to be heard.

Wonderful evening at the Link & Pin in Woy Woy getting to see Neil Mansfield's "Static Electricity"- a remixed version of his 1999 feature debut "Fresh Air". Sadly, Neil has no true hi-def master of the film he wrote and directed, and it is unknown as to where the 16mm reels might be hidden (if they even exist).
The original film was designed to mimic the look and feel of a indie "zine", in which Neil also demonstrated in showing us his original pitch documents- pages upon pages of collages & scrapbooks collected from magazines, photos and newspaper clippings. In his new edit of the film- he has accentuated that feeling through image and sound speed ramping, more jarring "cut n paste" edits and a barrage of freeze frames mimicking the photos taken by its central characters.

Consider this a call out to any leads we have left (I'm looking at you, Umbrella Entertainment!). Even if the search doesn't turn up anything, I'm dying to know if those film negatives exist even in someone's garage. Every now and then a VHS tape pops up on ebay of the film's single home media release- and with a cast of familiar faces yet-to-blossom, surely it's time that Fresh Air got its day in the sun. The plight of twenty-something year old creatives sharehousing in Marrickville, falling in and out of love to a soundtrack that would make Double J fans blush, is even more prescient as time goes on.
